Seizures are probably the most common neurological issue we see in practice, and they can be one of the most daunting conditions to nurse (and be incredibly stressful to witness). Thankfully, though, there's lots we can do to support these patients as veterinary nurses and technicians. To do this, we need to understand a bit more about what seizures are, why they happen, the impact they have on our patients, and how they're managed - as well as the nursing care these patients need, and the skills we can use in the process. That's exactly what we're covering in episode 104 of the Medical Nursing Podcast. Join me, Laura Jones (RVN, VTS Internal Medicine) and resident neuro expert Zoe Hatfield (RVN, VTS Neurology) as we discuss exactly what you need to know to care for these patients confidently as a veterinary nurse. Settle in, make yourself comfy, and get ready to do more with your seizure patients. --- About Zoe: Zoe qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2012. After spending her first year as a RVN working in first opinion practice, she moved to referral joining the University of Glasgow Small Animal Hospital nursing team in 2013. Since joining the nursing team, Zoe has developed her passion for neurology and in 2019 gained the VTS certificate in Neurology. Working within the vet school she enjoys using her extensive experience in neurology to teach and educate students and newer members of staff. She also presents CPD on a wide variety of neurological topics, including at BSAVA Alba, ExcelCPD, VetTrust, AIMVT and BVA Live. EP 619 Prezzo Opens Up: Seizure Incident at Bahati Event & Daddy V Reveals Mwafreeka's Strip Club Secrets
Neurology is amazing in a crisis. Stroke at 3 a.m.? Seizure in the ER? Modern medicine delivers. But chronic brain issues are different. Migraine. Brain fog. Parkinson's. Alzheimer's risk. These often turn into symptom management with a fancy label and a longer medication list. In this episode of Medical Disruptors, I sit down with neurologist Dr. Ken Sharlin to talk about what comes before the diagnosis gets permanent. Why decline isn't inevitable. And why the real leverage points aren't “more meds” or “more supplements”—it's the inputs that shape inflammation, metabolism, and nervous system stability. Dr. Sharlin breaks down his 5-part clinical roadmap for brain health, explains why getting the diagnosis right actually matters, and walks through the early drivers that can show up years before symptoms become irreversible. We also go deep on migraines—what they really are, why your brain can get stuck on high alert, and how you bring the system back under control. Energy Vista: A Podcast on Energy Issues, Professional and Personal Trajectories
Is Iran weaker today due to sanctions? In this episode of Energy Vista, Leslie Palti-Guzman sits down with geoeconomic expert Rachel Ziemba to unpack the use of US economic statecraft against Iran in an era of shadow fleets and great-power fragmentation. We discuss:• How much of Iran's current economic and political weakness is actually driven by sanctions• China's decisive role in sustaining Iranian, Russian, and Venezuelan crude exports• The rise of a sanctions-evasion ecosystem linking Iran, Russia, and Venezuela• Whether the Houthis' disruption of Red Sea shipping indirectly enables sanctioned oil trade• Has the US overstretched its economic statecraft tools? At stake is more than Iran. This is about the durability of US financial power, the fragmentation of global energy markets, and whether sanctions remain leverage.Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major platforms.Watch the full conversation on YouTube.

They called 2020 the most secure election in American history. But now the FBI has executed a federal search warrant in Fulton County, Georgia, seizing hundreds of boxes of ballots tied to that election. Reports of missing ballot boxes, record retention discrepancies, and chain-of-custody gaps are raising serious questions about election integrity. If the election was truly the gold standard, why the need for a criminal warrant? Why alleged documentation failures? Today, Todd Huff walks through what's happening, what the affidavit reportedly claims, and why transparency — not slogans — is essential for restoring public trust.
The sale is complete for a Walton County, Ga. industrial warehouse that will become a new detention center for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Local officials confirmed the purchase of the rural warehouse, located approximately 40 miles east of Atlanta. But Social Circle city officials say they’re against it, and Gareth Fenley, a local organizer with Indivisible Boldly Blue, shares on “Closer Look” how she plans to fight it. Plus, Atlanta area hospitals say their staff and resources are ready to respond to the 300,000 FIFA World Cup visitors expected here this summer. Preparations have been ongoing for months in advance, including a training simulation involving two patients who entered the U.S. with an infectious disease. Doctors from Grady Hospital, Piedmont Hospital and the Emory University School of Medicine join the program to discuss their plan to keep residents and visitors healthy during the games. Then, a new ProPublica report is linking a conservative researcher to the seizure of Fulton County’s election records. The author tells us about Kevin Moncla, who has long accused Fulton County of election fraud.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

FBI Search of Fulton County, Georgia Election Office The FBI executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Fulton County Election Hub related to the 2020 presidential election. The action is evidence that past claims of election fraud—particularly those advanced by Donald Trump—are finally being taken seriously. Judicial approval of the warrant is proof of legitimacy. Seizure of ballots, computers, phones, and election records. Allegations that early votes were improperly certified without required signatures. The dismissal of the prior state-level prosecution against Trump in Georgia as vindication. Assertion of Broader Election Manipulation Concerns Foreign interference, specifically claiming that Mexican consulates worked to influence U.S. elections via immigration and cultural influence. These claims are tied to a book (The Invisible Coup) and used to argue that U.S. elections are structurally compromised. Trump’s Georgia Election Claims Trump’s assertion that he “won Georgia” is reinforced. The FBI investigation is a potential confirmation that the 2020 Georgia results were altered or fraudulent. Media skepticism of these claims is dishonest or politically motivated. Second Story: Death of Alex Pretty in Minnesota The media portrays Alex Pretti as an innocent victim of ICE violence. Newly surfaced video shows Pretti: Assaulting federal agents, Damaging government vehicles, Carrying a firearm during protests. Law Enforcement Justification Narrative Federal agents involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave (presented as standard procedure). Pretti posed an ongoing threat and that agents acted in self-defense. Family and attorney statements with video evidence to accuse the media of intentional misinformation. Broader Media Critique Mainstream media is misleading the public, The political left is covering up violent behavior, Institutions are suppressing truth about election integrity and immigration enforcement. In this episode, Samantha and Nick examine a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a non-transport decision—a case that highlights how quickly routine calls can turn into high-stakes legal events. The discussion centers on the death of a 26-year-old man with type 1 diabetes and a seizure disorder who requested transport, was left at home, and was later found deceased. Using the language of the actual court complaint, the episode explores the legal concept of public trust in EMS and what happens when that trust is alleged to be broken. From a leadership and risk-management perspective, the episode dissects the duty to assess, document, and transport—or properly refuse. The hosts examine how documentation choices (“canceled – no patient found”), failure to contact medical control, and leaving a high-risk patient alone can dramatically shift the legal narrative. Particular attention is given to supervisory actions after the call, including how complaint handling, recorded phone conversations, and well-intentioned but poorly worded statements can unintentionally strengthen a plaintiff's case. The conversation also breaks down the legal mechanics of the lawsuit itself, including wrongful death, survivorship, and loss of consortium claims, as well as why a seemingly multimillion-dollar case may settle for far less. Throughout the episode, the emphasis remains on defensible decision-making, understanding administrative and civil liability exposure, and how EMS professionals can protect both patients and their licenses by aligning clinical judgment with documentation and protocol.Key takeawaysNon-transport decisions carry legal weight: Refusing or discouraging transport in high-risk patients invites scrutiny.Documentation is your primary defense: “Canceled – no patient found” is nearly indefensible when patient contact occurred.Duty to assess does not end at the door: Seizure risk, diabetes, and being left alone matter legally and clinically.Medical control can help: Early physician involvement can shift responsibility and improve outcomes.Supervisors must handle complaints carefully: Poorly phrased responses can become admissions of fault.Assume you are being recorded: Phone calls, body cams, and bystanders can all end up in evidence.Do the right thing and write it down: Defensible care starts with sound clinical judgment and ends with accurate documentation.
COLD WAR TACTICS: THE SEIZURE OF A RUSSIAN TANKER Colleague Anatol Lieven, Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. Lieven discusses the US Navy's detention of a Russian-flagged ship in the North Atlantic, viewing it as a dangerous escalation akin to piracy. This move humiliates Moscow and aims to control oil supplies. Lieven warns that if European nations mimic these seizures, Russia may retaliate violently, risking a direct war. NUMBER 21962 CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS
Prior to the U.S. attacks that dislodged president Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, American forces have for weeks been blockading U.S.-sanctioned ships carrying Venezuelan oil. In mid-December, the United States began boarding, and seizing, tankers in the so‑called “shadow fleet” that move sanctioned oil across the globe, starting with stateless vessels. In a dramatic turn, this week the U.S. Coast Guard, with U.S. and allied military support, intercepted and boarded two Russian-flagged oil tankers in international waters, prompting protests from Moscow. Can the U.S. lawfully board and seize Russian‑flagged merchant ships? What does international maritime law, and the law of naval warfare, have to say about actions like these? To unpack the legal and geopolitical stakes, host Tess Bridgeman speaks with Rob McLaughlin, professor at the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security and the ANU College of Law, who previously served as both a Seaman officer and Legal officer in the Royal Australian Navy, including in senior roles such as Fleet Legal Officer, Strategic Legal Adviser, Director of Operations and International Law, and Director of the Naval Legal Service. Harry sits down with Georgetown law professor Steve Vladeck to dissect the seizure of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. From the UN Charter and head-of-state immunity to the infamous 1989 Barr memo, they unpack the administration's legal gymnastics, multiple legal illegalities, and tenuous positions. In particular, they zero in on the interplay between U.S. criminal law and the international law that we appear to have knowingly violated. They then turn to the long-term practical moral consequences of the operation, including the possible severe damage to U.S. credibility and strategic interests going forward. U.S. authorities, including the Coast Guard, FBI, Homeland Security, and Navy, seized the tanker in a coordinated operation. Video footage of the boarding was released publicly. Official Justification: The seizure was based on violations of U.S. sanctions and links to illicit oil networks supporting sanctioned entities, including Iran. Venezuelan Reaction: The Maduro government condemned the action as “international piracy” and a violation of sovereignty, vowing to raise the issue in international forums. Geopolitical Impact: The incident escalated U.S.-Venezuela tensions, contributed to rising global oil prices, and raised questions about potential military escalation. Media Coverage: CNN and Fox News-while some portray the move as controversial, analysts argue it is consistent with past U.S. actions against Iranian oil tankers.
