This episode is a replay of the Women's Empowerment Workshop which was held in March during Women's History Month. The discussion focused on how women should use all the resources available to them to shorten their job search or advance their career. Two resources are discussed: utilizing the services of a career strategist and a paid recruiter. My guests are Stacey Weissbock of JobssNow, and Ashlie Moseley of Beacon Hill Staffing. To watch the replay of this workshop, please visit our YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/Xx4EQ0D8ta4 Important points from the discussion - from Stacey and Ashlie: - Advice to help job seekers in this challenging job market o Consistency matters, don't be inconsistent in your outreach or relationship building, research the company, practicing your messaging – consistency is he first step to success. o Build a schedule create consistent relationships and outreach, research, do the work; make a spreadsheet if that helps. - Virtual interviewing tip o Download all the different types of software: WebEx, Teams, Zoom and GoToMeeting prior to your interview because you don't know what they will be using and you want to be prepared. - Working with recruiters o There are always job postings (open requisitions) on their website o If there is not the right chemistry with one recruiter you can always request another one - Benefits of working with recruiters o Recruiters have strong relationships with clients (hiring companies). o Access to the hidden job market (i.e., companies sometimes have positions that are not posted) o They can advocate for you with the company - Prior to the pandemic, it was a “candidate's world” meaning that there were more jobs than candidates; now it is flipped – there are great candidates in the labor market but not enough jobs. - Hot industries: human resources, legal, finance and pharmaceuticals - Unemployment rate in finance is below 3%; positions in accounting can range from accounts payable/receivable all the way to CFO; you do not always need a CPA to work in accounting. - Onboarding/starting a new position o Majority of onboarding is remote (i.e., offer letter, identification) o When you start new job virtually, it is up to the company to get you what you need to be successful o Let recruiter know if you need any equipment; and they will help you get it. - Contract work o Be open to working on contract for a while, employers like to see that you are working o Contract work can also sharpen your skills or help you learn new ones; shows you are still networking and staying in the game. o Contract work could also turn into a permanent position. Ep. 26 – Tracy Stanton’s story is one of triumph and perseverance. It serves as a reminder of the importance of knowing someone’s struggle before passing judgement on them. Far too often, we’re quick to look down on or have a negative view of someone because they’re an alcoholic or a crack addict. The reality is, we don’t know what they endured that caused them to turn to drinking or using drugs. Tracy explains how her journey through crack addiction, prostitution and ending up in prison actually helped her become the successful person we see today.  She shares how nonprofits and other organizations helped her heal from pains of the past.  Now that she’s mentally, spiritually and emotionally strong, Tracy aims to inspire and empower people to reach their highest potential through her lived experience. She made a drastic transition from substance use to SLU student, program facilitator with the Institute for Peace and Justice, presenter with the Clark-Fox Family Foundation, and a 2019 Center for Women in Transition Award winner and Board Member. She’s also a spoken-word poet, activist, and all-around amazing woman! She says her duty and purpose is to aid and assist others in their transition from Addiction to Ambition.  Tracy’s Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/TracysuegenerisStanton Tracy’s Spoken-Word/Poet YouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv-PLsS9ibQXJBjFiauO7mA Center for Women In Transition - http://www.cwitstl.org/store/c1/Home The Bail Project - https://bailproject.org/ St. Louis Empowerment Center - http://www.dbsaempowerment.org/ The Institute For Peace and Justice - https://ipj-ppj.org/ Ad – Storytellers Academy - https://storytellersacademy.org/online-school-1 Storytellers Academy Facebook Page - https://www.facebook.com/coachpauletteharper

As women, we all go through at least several transitions in life, some are brought on by biological and emotional changes, some may be due to new circumstances.  In fact, they are all invitations to a transformation at different stages, in which I call that your Hero or Heroine Journey. Each journey leads us to encounter an unknown part within us or external to us.  I first started to share what I have learned from different teachers and personal experiences regarding our transitions in my book Goddess with Many Faces. I am about to complete my next book and I wanted to add on or update regarding this specific topic on women cycle of life and transitions.  One of the two key messages I need to add is about the importance of knowing your gifts and opportunities that may come with each of the stages in life. And secondly, how we must find pleasure and joy at every age. Let me quickly take you through what I called the Women Circle of Life, or the Four Seasons of Women instead of a more traditional label of the “Triple Goddess” which many refer to as Maiden, Mother and Crone. I believe these days not only women have a longer life expectancy, but we also have more opportunities to explore our potentials and develop what our heart calls us to do as well. The Four Seasons of Women refer to the four stages: Maiden, Mother, Matriarch and Wise Woman. Changing of seasons symbolizes the transition we all go through and as we pass our wisdom and knowledge to the next generations through our family and friends, our thoughts and love live on. That’s why for me, it is like a cycle and continuation of life.  Spring: From Maiden to Woman Each woman’s menstrual cycle begins when her body is ready to become a woman. This is the stage of the maiden which, like the season of spring, is full of youthful energy and a feeling of all things being possible. Although it may take a woman a lot longer than she would like for her mind to mature in the same way, she is being initiated into womanhood in a rather straightforward manner. Women’s rites of passage are built-in, as compared with men, whose journeys from boys to men are not as defined by nature, only by mental maturity. In fact, in many ancient traditions, boys were taken to a dark forest or cave to undertake a ritual in order to earn the rite of passage. Personally, I find the key of passage is about transforming anything we fear into love and courage. Therefore, when a girl or boy experience something that shakes their world, confronts them to face their fear and ask them for an act of courage or kindness, that in essence is leading them to a transformation. It marks the departure of a maiden and arrival of a woman.  Summer: Woman to Mother/Birther of Creative Pursuits  The next stage is summer when a woman becomes fully grown and becomes a mother. This journey is more complex as she is bringing a new life into the world. She doesn’t know how she is going to be as a mother, there is a sense of uncertainty in her psyche. Some women may feel very excited and ready for their impending motherhood, but some may be worried as life is changing and they have little control or experience to prepare them for it. They may also feel they need to put a pause on their career or they may be unsure how to balance the two. That is why these days many women choose to delay motherhood until they feel they are more established in life. I always suggest to listen to your inner calling and don’t deny an urge if it is what you want or rushes it if you don’t feel ready. Personally I also had no idea how motherhood would affect my career or if I would be any good at it. All those concerns fell away as soon as my daughter was born. The birthing experience felt nothing short of miraculous, and all the labour pains were literally a rite of passage for me. Many of us, myself included, may overthink and try to control all kind of situation, even about falling in love. I would see love,
