Engagers share...learnings from the pandemic. This was Part 1 of a webinar presentation held in November 2021. Community engagement leaders struggle with how to: Involve people who are ‘hardly reached'. Appeal to young people. Engage authentically with people whose first language is not English. Extend the conversation with people who weren't ‘in the room' but who are keen to contribute. Overcome constraints of face-to-face engagement in a COVID world.   Jacinta Cubis and Cindy Lenferna de la Motte, Head of Customer and Community at Harvest, are excited to share a process that helps people to share their lived experience through photography. From indigenous rights and self-determination, homelessness, domestic violence and refugee advocacy as a Human Rights and Refugee Ambassador for Amnesty Australia, Australia Committee member with Human Rights Watch and Advisory Council member of the Australian Human Rights Institute, UNSW. Craig developed a primary school initiative to facilitate inclusion with the Australian Government for Harmony Day, is a former Chairman, Life Member and CEO of Professional Footballers Australia (PFA), Australia's representative body of the Socceroos, Matildas and professional players around the world and has led a number of sport and business missions abroad with the NSW Government and the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Craig's social justice advocacy extends to several high profile campaigns including #SaveHakeem to free Bahraini refugee Hakeem al-Araibi from a Thai prison for which he was a Finalist for the Australian Human Rights Commission Medal, #GameOver to call for the resettlement and freedom of around 500 refugees and asylum seekers indefinitely detained by Australia in PNG and Nauru for almost seven years and #PlayForLives which is a humanitarian response by global sport to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, the Australian Financial Review recognised Craig as a ‘True Australian Leader' and the Sydney Morning Herald as one of the ‘People that Defined 2019'. Craig holds a Master's in International Sports Management, a Postgraduate Degree in Football Management, a Professional Coaching License and a Bachelor of Laws. Anne Leadbeater OAM, Director and Principal of the Leadbeater Group joined Elisabeth Ellis, Professional Development Manager, IAP2 Australasia to discuss engagement tips for disaster response and recovery. Anne has 25 years' experience in community and economic development through her roles in local and state Government, emergency management and adult education. Anne worked on behalf of the Murrindindi Shire Council to coordinate recover efforts for the Kinglake Ranges following the 2009 Victorian Bushfires and has also worked with disaster-impacted communities in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and New Zealand. Anne's extensive experience includes facilitation of state-wide consultation sessions with staff and stakeholders for the development of the Victorian Department of Land, Water and Planning Customer Charter, and design and delivery of a national tour of masterclasses on disaster recovery for the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Australasia. From these workshops, the Guide to Engaging in Disaster Recovery was developed by an IAP2 Australasia working group, led by Anne. Anne has worked in economic development as the Strategic Project Manager for Murrindindi Shire Council's Advancing Country Towns project. In 2018, she was lead writer on the development of Handbook 12 – Communities Responding to Disasters (Planning for Spontaneous Volunteers) and a review of Handbook 2 – Community Recovery for the Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience. Anne specialises in working with large and small groups on strategic planning, policy development, disaster recovery and managing outrage. Anne holds a masters' degree in Social Science and has authored published papers on drought policy, communicating in emergencies, and the role of community leadership in disaster recovery. She is a specialist facilitator with the National Centre for Emergency Management Studies, and was a Core Values Awards judge for IAP2 Australasia in 2017 and 2019.   IAP2 Australasia Leading the national conversation on authentic community and stakeholder engagement.
