Interview with Craig Foster, Founder & CEO of Ondo InsurTechRecording date: 15th May 2025Ondo InsurTech PLC is emerging as a leader in the insurtech sector with its proprietary water leak detection system, LeakBot. The company is addressing one of the home insurance industry's most significant challenges – water damage, which represents a $17 billion annual claims burden in the US alone with an average claim of $14,000.The LeakBot technology utilizes a patented temperature differential monitoring system that homeowners can easily install by clipping it to their main water pipe. The device measures the temperature of the incoming water pipe and compares it to the ambient temperature. When water isn't being used, these temperatures should equalize; a continuous differential indicates a leak. The system can detect leaks as small as 5 milliliters per minute without requiring professional installation.Insurance companies pay Ondo approximately $5 per month per customer for this service, which includes the hardware, software, and any plumber visits required to find and fix detected leaks. With water damage claims costing insurers about $220 per policy annually, the $60 yearly investment offers a compelling return on investment. The company has achieved significant market penetration with deployments in 151,000 homes and partnerships with 24 insurance companies globally. Ondo reported revenue of nearly £4 million for the fiscal year ending March, with annualized contracted recurring revenue approaching £6 million. Growth is particularly strong in the US market at 400% year-on-year.Ondo's financial trajectory shows a clear path to profitability, with expectations to reach EBITDA-positive trading by the end of the current fiscal year. The business model is designed for improving margins, starting with single-digit P&L margins in the first year but growing to 70-80% in subsequent years. With high customer satisfaction (80+ Net Promoter Score), strong insurance partner retention (100%), and an addressable market of 13-14 million potential customer homes through existing partners alone, Ondo InsurTech is well-positioned in the growing field of preventative insurance technology.Sign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

And when any one of the fragile threads of the web of life begins to fray, all of us are threatened. Craig Foster—the Academy Award–winning creator of My Octopus Teacher—has since the age of three spent his life intimately connected to the natural world, in particular the Earth's endangered marine ecosystems such as the Great African Seaforest. Craig Foster, the South African filmmaker best known for his Oscar-winning documentary "My Octopus Teacher," joins Michael to share a few insights from his new book "Amphibious Soul: Finding the Wild in a Tame World."
Modern life is filled with many kinds of pollution. From the audible and visual pollution of our cities to the garbage we let leak into our natural world, humans are separating themselves from nature at a faster rate than ever before in our history. The flora and fauna so graciously given by our earth mother have been all but forgotten in many human environments. Observing, reconnecting, listening to ecopsychology, and exposing ourselves to the natural world can increase our health and well-being. To unearth essential information about how we join the human rewilding project and get back in tune with nature, Harvesting Happiness Podcast Host Lisa Cypers Kamen speaks with the co-founder of the Sea Change Project, documentary filmmaker, and naturalist
Craig Foster is the Academy Award-winning director of the documentary My Octopus Teacher and talks to Nights about 'Amphibious Soul: Finding the Wild in a Tame World'.
A decade ago, living in a city and feeling exhausted and empty, Craig Foster decided to return to his birthplace—the Cape of Good Hope—and dive into the great African Sea forest each day. His daily oceanic adventures not only helped him “rewild”, but helped him come to see his own “amphibious soul” as a powerful metaphor for the human condition. Now, in conversation with his close friend Kate Humble, he shares his insights into the wonder of the natural world. From understanding diverse species through the smallest details of their call, their tracks, and their habits, to learning how to reconnect with our most ancient common tongue—the language of wildlife—he reveals how we are all born wild, and that we have the power to reconnect with our innermost nature: nature itself. "We feel pulled to reuniting the wild family again. We want to reconnect with all our wild kin, but we want to connect with our wild human relations as well and be able to speak that old language."In this episode, we are joined by award winning documentary filmmaker and author Craig Foster. We discuss Craig's connection to Jon through tracking, including the impact that watching the Great Dance had on Jon and the impact that hearing Jon's Tracking CDs had on Craig. We explore how tracking and deep connection to the wild seem to lead to mysterious capabilities, and some of the ways in which the natural world seems to reach out to connect to us in turn. We also explore some of the benefits of connecting to the wild world, from our nervous system and health, to it's impact on learning, and even on our relationships. “There's a lot of good stuff in the tame world but it's unbalanced. The wild person is being smothered by the tame, and what I'm saying is let's find a balance and let that incredible, wild, intelligent person come back and nourish us.”About Craig FosterCraig Foster is an Oscar and BAFTA winning filmmaker, naturalist, author and ocean explorer. His films have won over 150 international awards. He co-founded the Sea Change Project in 2012.Craig's work has contributed to the marine sciences through the discovery of new species and new animal behaviours. He is the first person to create a method of underwater tracking in the kelp forest. His film “My Octopus Teacher” has led to making the Great African Seaforest a global icon. Craig also has consulted for 8 years to the centre for early sapiens behaviour, SapienCE, and created an award winning exhibition about middle Stone Age human origins. Drawing on 30 years of his work with the San and other indigenous African people, the exhibit promotes Africa as the origin of science and art. Craig believes that the greatest threat we face is the cooling of the human heart towards nature. All his work is about inspiring a change of heart, inspiring people to care for and regenerate nature around them. He has founded the Sea Change Project to share his love of nature with others, and has kept his pact to dive 365 times a year for over a decade. “An important book that will transform how we think about being human. . . . that will inspire hope.”—Jane Goodall Many people in today's world seek to reclaim the soul-deepening wildness that grounds them and energizes them when so much of the modern world seems designed to tame them. In his thrilling memoir of a life spent exploring the most incredible places on Earth—from the Great African Seaforest to the crocodile lairs of the Okavango Delta—Craig Foster reveals how people can attend to the earthly beauty around them and deepen their love for all living things, whether they make their homes in the country, the city or anywhere in between. Foster will draw on the work he put into his new book, Amphibious Soul: Finding the Wild in a Tame World. In it, he explores his struggles to remain present to life when a disconnection from nature and the demands of his professional life begin to deaden his senses. And his own reliance on nature's rejuvenating spiritual power is put to the test when catastrophe strikes close to home Foster is one of the world's leading natural history filmmakers and won the 2021 Academy Award for Best Documentary for My Octopus Teacher. How much time do you spend in nature? Most of us spend far more time indoors than outdoors. And we're more likely to be surrounded by electronics than trees. Craig Foster, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind My Octopus Teacher, says we've lost touch with our wild side. Not only is that bad for our psychological well-being, but it's harmful to the ecosystem. He's written a book called Amphibious Soul, and he's now encouraging all of us to get in touch with our wild side again. Sam Kerr. We know her. We love her. But our love was called into question this week, when it was revealed that in January last year, after our star Matilda had been out celebrating, a drunken taxi ride in Twickenham ended with her throwing up and allegedly arguing with the cabbie over the fare. Police were then called where Kerr reportedly got into an altercation with a white police officer, allegedly calling him a 'stupid white bastard'. She's since been charged with racially aggravated harassment. But what exactly constitutes racism? Can a person of colour be racist towards a white person? In this episode of The Quicky we take a look at exactly this with Craig Foster, who admits to reevaluating his initial opinions of Sam following the news. Want to try our new exercise app? Welcome to Talk'n Docs, the monthly podcast where we dive into the world of documentaries and review them for your listening pleasure. Hosted by Jennifer Smith, Logan Crosland and Cowboy Roger, the crew continues Season 2 with a review of 2020's My Octopus Teacher. This Netflix documentary follows a year in the life of filmmaker Craig Foster and his relationship with...an octopus. Beautifully and meticulously shot, this story draws us into a South African kelp forest to learn about the fragility of life and humanity's connection with nature.
Craig Foster - former Socceroo captain, legendary sports broadcaster, social justice champion… but his most important job? You guessed it… Good 'ol Dad! As a compassionate and thoughtful leader who spends much of his time helping those who don't have a voice, Craig talks about why justice and fairness are core tenets of his and how this informs his parenting. Fozz also discusses shepherding his kids though the teenage years and the almost comical lengths he's gone to keep a watchful eye. And as a leading advocate in the multicultural and refugee space, he speaks quite beautifully about the commonality created by parenting, and that when you strip things back, what we all indisputably share as parents is a deep desire for our kids to be safe, happy and loved. We told you he was thoughtful! Craig's CV is long, varied and representative of his desire to make a positive impact. He's got an AM for humanitarian services, nominated as Australian of the year, a member of The Australian Multicultural society, an Adjunct Professor of Sport and Social Responsibility and an author. Oh, and 2022 he was named Father of the Year, which as he describes to Hamish, he views as an opportunity to advocate for kids and parents in the multicultural community and the huge benefit that father figures can have mentoring kids who are not their own, something that Craig does a lot of himself. Huge thanks to Fozz for coming on and talking so honestly, passionately and with such thoughtfulness. What a treat for us. And what a wonderful leader to have in our community —- Our Hertz and Merch Comp is still running! Killing It is a satiric comedy on Peacock starring Craig Robinson as Craig Foster, an aspiring entrepreneur struggling to start his business. The show pokes fun at the absurdities of American capitalism, class, race, health care, and how it's all stacked against the little guy. Cinematographer Judd Overton shot all episodes of Killing It for both season one and season two. His approach to shooting the comedy has always been to keep it relatable and naturalistic, even though the characters are going through things that might seem ridiculous. With three cameras, it was also important to create a space for the actors to do their best work- they would often improvise and try to sharpen their jokes on set. Shooting with longer lenses gave them room to move. The composition and lighting also have to play together for the humor to hit. Each of the characters in Killing It have their own episode, and the lighting is influenced by the places they're in, such as a strip club or a huge mansion. Judd feels that planning is essential, and he had to think on his feet to be able to change blocking or the time of day a scene was shot. One scene in Killing It from season two required a lot of stunt work and fight scene blocking in an automotive chop shop, but the comedy beats weren't working. Without the comedy beats, the fight scene just wasn't going to play. They had to stop, reblock and shoot again to work out how to make it feel funny. Judd grew up in the outback of rural Australia, and his family would buy VHS movies for entertainment and watch them over and over. The kids would then reenact the movies, filming it with a camcorder, and edit them together. Growing up in the driest permanently inhabited place on earth meant that documentary crews would frequently come through, and Judd would go and watch them work. It inspired him to become a cinematographer, so he learned photography in high school and then became a camera assistant through the Australian Cinematography Society. He later attended the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), won several awards for his student work and started getting offers to DP on larger films. Judd's next project is a feature film called Totally Killer, a slasher comedy that will be the closing night film at Fantastic Fest in Austin. It releases October 6th on Amazon Prime. You can watch Killing It streaming on Peacock.
