This issue has come to a head in recent weeks on TikTok, in particular, where the pro-Palestinian movement has gained a lot of traction since the attacks of October 7th. Many young Black activists have stood in solidarity with those who have dedicated their social media accounts to calling for Palestinian independence. But the rise of Kamala Harris as the Democratic party's presumptive nominee has revealed a fissure among Black pro Palestine activists and non Black activists. The primary issue - is it possible to stand in solidarity with those advocating for Palestinian liberation and also vote for a member of the Biden administration who is tangentially culpable for the genocide happening in Gaza?I'm also taking a look at post-Trump politics in the Republican Party. Walz was a bit of an unconventional pick, but anyone who's seen them on stage together would have to acknowledge that he makes the perfect compliment for her. Much like her, he's optimistic, he's plain-spoken and he's... *gasp* joyful. These are words you wouldn't necessarily associate with politics, but they're qualities that have been sorely lacking in our political sphere of late. As we're all breathing a sigh of relief, we're also observing the unique ways in which these kindred souls move. When you're facing an opponent who deals in schoolyard politics, the temptation might be to allow that joy to be overwhelmed with the need to push back on his lies, to clapback to his insults and to allow the news cycle to be dominated by damage control. Kamala and Tim seem to be aware of this danger, and so far, they've focused on keeping their forward momentum, while not being afraid to address Trump and Vance's attacks head on, and then keep it moving. It's a delicate balance they'll have to strike if they want to maintain their status as "The Joyful Team" and avoid being swept up in his vortex of chaos.Support the Show.Stay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook

Send us a Text Message.Donald Trump has chosen his running mate – a newly-minted Senator from the state of Ohio named JD Vance. Many will remember him from the best-selling book he wrote in 2016 called, “Hillbilly Elegy.” JD Vance was a media darling at that time. His book shone a light on the unique struggles of America's white poor. But festering beneath the surface of this self-proclaimed “conservative with a conscience” was a man who held a special contempt for America's so-called “liberal elite.” According to his former roommate at Yale law school, he allowed that contempt to lead him down a path of moral decay. JD Vance would not have succeeded in his bid for the Senate without $15 million from PayPal founder Peter Theil.  Despite JD's scathing critiques of Donald Trump, Theil made a personal introduction of JD to Trump to assist him in his bid for the Senate. It worked. And in a very short period of time, it launched JD to the top of Trump's list of willing acolytes that were being considered as his running mate. JD Vance's ascent has been swift and contradictory. In this episode, I'm taking a look at the various factions that had a hand in positioning him to stand a stone's throw from the presidency. What It's Like To Be...What's it like to be a Cattle Rancher? Attacks on voting rights are as old as the U.S. itself. Many people are not aware of the long standing history of attacks on this constitutionally protected right. Efforts to restrict voting access have not abated, and it's incumbent upon all of us to understand how these efforts have evolved over the years. All over the U.S., but particularly in the South and in swing states, there are constant attempts to block ballot access for those who are deemed by some as unworthy to participate in the democratic process.Today, I discuss that history with human rights lawyer, Qasim Rashid. Qasim is a tireless warrior for the underrepresented and the marginalized. His recent run for Congress in his native Chicago left him even more energized and focused on the issues that affect Black, brown, indigenous, LGBTQ and economically disadvantaged people. By now, most people know that the version of the Pocahontas story that was presented in the 1995 Disney film is mostly fiction. But the story behind the composition of the film's most famous song is not as well known. It was important to lyricist Stephen Schwartz to pay homage to the history and legacy of the Powhatan people on which the film is based, but in true American fashion, the source material he drew from as the inspiration for the song's brilliant lyrics paints a through line to America's long history of exploitation and misrepresentation of Native stories and voices. For the month of May, we're delving into some deep-dive discussions with a couple of my favorite mutual creators — first up is human rights lawyer, Qasim Rashid. In this episode, we're talking over the recent decision by the conservative Supreme Court to do away with race-based affirmative action. Since anti-affirmative action activist Edward Blum used a group of Asian students as his battering ram to take down affirmative action, Qasim and I speak to the issue of alleged anti-Asian discrimination at elite universities, and how this accusation led to a Supreme Court victory against affirmative action, when an earlier bid with a white student had failed to deliver the success Blum wanted. Join us next week for a round-up on the issue of voting rights with Qasim. CTP - Biblical view / World view, which Rules you? I've taken some time to look at disparities in health outcomes in the Black community vs. every other racial grouping in the U.S. The numbers are pretty grim. And unfortunately, when we take a look at the mental health profile for Black people as a whole in the U.S., it's no different. Black people are statistically more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and they're more likely to grapple with suicidal ideations. Yet we're the group that is least likely to seek out help, and when we do, we're more likely to receive poor quality care. In today's podcast, I'm examining the reasons for these disparities, and looking at some ways in which we can begin to shift the needle on this troubling reality. CTP - Biblical view / World view, which Rules you? “I'm Rooting for Everybody Black” has become a bit of a rallying cry to indicate our unwavering support for Black creatives, entrepreneurs, techies — anybody that's repping Black excellence. But the expectation that “Everybody Black” deserves our support can also be an errant one. The death of OJ Simpson brings this topic into greater focus, and it's worth taking another look at this age-old question in light of what his ascent and downfall meant to the Black community. Are we required to lend our unquestioned support to Black folks simply because they're “our” people? When is it okay to withdraw our support from Black folks that we deem problematic, and why is this so hard to talk about? Support the showStay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook

Medical racism is one of the most under-addressed topics in discussions around healthcare. Maybe that's because most people don't really know what it is, or how deeply it impacts communities of color — particularly Black people. Many don't know it exists at all. But as you'll hear in this week's episode, medical racism can kill. In this week's podcast, I'm bringing you two Breakdowns on racism within the medical community that highlight the dire state of healthcare within the Black community — cases that provide irrefutable proof that medical disparities do exist along color lines.  We'll discuss the many forms that medical racism can take, and we'll talk about solutions as well.Support the showStay up to date with all things Dara Starr Tucker here:Dara Starr Tucker LinkTreeDara Starr Tucker TikTokDara Starr Tucker InstagramDara Starr Tucker YouTubeDara Starr Tucker Facebook

White Grievance is big business. And it's increasingly becoming a more reliable winning strategy on the right. As more and more "Trumpists" are elected to political office, we're beginning to see conspiracies like "The Great Replacement Theory" and "white erasure' be mainstreamed by heroes of the right like Tucker Carlson, Elon Musk and Trump himself. These are no longer the fringe rantings of unhinged political extremists -- these are widely accepted conservative beliefs that are picking up steam with the help of some of the nation's most prominent conservative voices. And White Grievance has real world consequences. On multiple occasions, the dissemination of these harmful philosophies has led to mass murder. Women's history month presents a unique opportunity to highlight 3 women that I've done Breakdowns on in the past that would all be rightly regarded as trailblazers in their filed. They're singers, they're songwriters and they've all made their voices heard in their own way. Black women have always been at the vanguard of artistic innovation, and have always been natural spokespeople for the marginalized in any culture. The artistic vision and creative voices of the women I've chosen to highlight today mean that they  will forever have a place among the greats in music history. They've acted as a beacon for myself and countless artists who have chosen to make their voices heard in the arenas of activism and social justice. I'm honored to be able to take time to highlight these important musical voices, and to shine a light on the work they've done to speak for the voiceless on and off the stage. If you've heard about Project 2025, you already know what MAGA has in store -- a total takeover of the levers of democracy, and a gutting of most of the central government in favor of a Neo-Fascist, Christian Nationalist dystopia. It would be wonderful if that were an exaggeration, but it is not. So many of us spend our time being (understandably) repulsed by this faction of the Republican party, that we don't take the time to study them. in this episode of "I'm All Over the Place," taken from my weekly broadcast on KJLH in LA, I take a look at the strategies that are being considered by MAGA to come out on top in the 2024 election, regardless of what 'we the people' have to say. Be sure to join the Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/darastarrtucker. Subscribe to the "I'm All Over the Place" podcast through your favorite podcast provider here: https://allovertheplace.buzzsprout.comLearn more about my music and how you can support this channel below: https://www.linktr.ee/daratuckerbhttps://www.patreon.com/darastarrtuckerhttps://www.tiktok.com/@darastarrtucker https://www.facebook.com/darastarrtuckerhttps://www.instagram.com/daratuckerbhttps://www.twitter.com/darastarrtuckerhttps://www.darastarrtucker.comI'm Sorry Zero Points ~ Eurovision podcast with Adrian & Seamus. It's season 3 of I'm Sorry Zero Points. The Heritage Foundation has big plans for 2025. They've spent $22 million hiring ‘experts' in a variety of fields to flesh out their plan for ‘total world domination.' Well, maybe not WORLD domination, but they plan to vastly increase the power of the executive branch, and place Foundation-approved applicants in key positions throughout the government. The plan is nothing short of diabolical. The 1,000-page document is available on The Heritage Foundation's website, and considering its size, very few people have actually read the whole thing – including Donald Trump, who is likely to be updated on highlights of the plan, and then turn its implementation over to Heritage Foundation operatives. Anyone casting a vote in 2024 (or not) should be aware of what Project 2025 is. Be sure to pick up your Breakdown Merch at my online store!
