If you've heard about Project 2025, you already know what MAGA has in store -- a total takeover of the levers of democracy, and a gutting of most of the central government in favor of a Neo-Fascist, Christian Nationalist dystopia. It would be wonderful if that were an exaggeration, but it is not. So many of us spend our time being (understandably) repulsed by this faction of the Republican party, that we don't take the time to study them. in this episode of "I'm All Over the Place," taken from my weekly broadcast on KJLH in LA, I take a look at the strategies that are being considered by MAGA to come out on top in the 2024 election, regardless of what 'we the people' have to say. Be sure to join the Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/darastarrtucker. Subscribe to the "I'm All Over the Place" podcast through your favorite podcast provider here: https://allovertheplace.buzzsprout.comLearn more about my music and how you can support this channel below: https://www.linktr.ee/daratuckerbhttps://www.patreon.com/darastarrtuckerhttps://www.tiktok.com/@darastarrtucker https://www.facebook.com/darastarrtuckerhttps://www.instagram.com/daratuckerbhttps://www.twitter.com/darastarrtuckerhttps://www.darastarrtucker.comI'm Sorry Zero Points ~ Eurovision podcast with Adrian & Seamus. It's season 3 of I'm Sorry Zero Points. Vitamin D with Dawn Dai

I had someone recently ask me, "Dawn, is it hard?" And at first, I was perplexed because I wasn't sure what they were referring to, but we were on the topic of me pursuing my dreams. Me over here at KJLH hosting Front Page. Also, me right here with you, hosting "Vitamin D with Dawn Dai." And at first I was perplexed and I replied, "I've been preparing for this moment my entire life." But as I sit here with you, I think to myself, "yes, it is hard." And oftentimes the hardest part is just showing up. But what happens when you're already in the room? When you have the desire and you've ignited it, but trials and tribulations come your way? Now you could fall, but on the other hand, you can stand. See, it doesn't help to worry about a situation. What do they say? "Either you worry or you're going to pray or you're going to pray, but you can't worry. They too cannot coexist as one." And in that moment, when you don't know what to do, what do we hear? "Peace be still." And it reminds me of the track by Donnie McClurkin, "Stand." And he says, "What do you do when you've done all you can? And it seems like it's never enough." Well, in it he says, "You stand." "Tell me, what do you give when you've given your all and it seems like you can't make it through?" Well, you just stand. Half of the battle is just weathering the storm, whether you like it or not. But you can't fail, if you don't quit. We hear it in Psalms 23, "For I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I fear no evil for your rod and your staff thy comfort me." Your truth will comfort you. Your vision will comfort you. Your passion will comfort you. How bad do you want it? Stop looking around and look within and just stand. Alright. That's it for your dose of "Vitamin D." Be sure to follow us on all social media @VitaminDDawnDai and until next time, always remember, "you are your greatest asset."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It has been stated that “community media, and in particular radio, can provide the platform for the public dialogue through which people can define who they are, what they want, and how to get it, at the same time building long-term capacity to solve problems in ways that lead to sustainable social change and development.”   For more than 50 years, KJLH Radio (102.3 FM) has provided that crucial platform for the African- American community and is one of just two Black-owned and operated commercial radio stations in all of California, a state with a population of 40 million people. Independently owned and operated since 1965, the station was sold, in 1979, to music legend Stevie Wonder. And, having operated from studios in the Crenshaw District of South Los Angeles, the station moved to the City of Inglewood, where it operates today.   Join us as we hear from Karen Slade, Vice President and General Manager of KJLH Radio as we discuss their work being actively engaged in community service and standing unapologetically as a vanguard for the people and frontline voice of social change. Additionally, we discuss the importance of community radio during a time of a rapidly changing media landscape; how they’re meeting the needs of a new generation of listeners; and how this work is being carried out with the backdrop of a changing Inglewood.   Despite revolutions in technology, media consumption trends and media availability, local radio listenership has held steady over the past decade. And, for KJLH under Karen’s leadership, the station has more than doubled its signal, expanding its audience reach, and has competed to earn a greater percentage of listener market share. To learn more, please visit www.kjlhradio.com and you can find KJLH on the FM dial at 102.3.   For more information, please visit www.CivitasLA.com and we hope you’ll rate and review our show; and connect with us on Facebook (@CivitasLA), Instagram (@Civitas_LA) and Twitter (@Civitas_LA).

Behind The Real Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 11, 2020 61:48

My guest speaker Award winning Actress/Director/Playwright/Producer/Author Alretha Thomas. Her background is as diverse as her personality. She started at the age of ten, when her 5th grade teacher picked and read her short story assignment in front of the class-that simple, loving act empowered a new writer. Continuing in high school, her numerous original oratorical conquests on the Speech Team led her to a journalism concentration at USC. Upon graduating, Alretha soon realized that her interest in journalism was not heartfelt. While at the taping of a live sitcom, the producer noticed her and encouraged her hand at modeling. Modeling didn't mean much to her, but it did lead her to acting and a NAACP Theatre Award Nomination (1993) for BEST ACTRESS. Alretha took a break from acting and began to write full-time. Her church gave her an outlet to fulfill her writing desires through their Liturgical Fine Arts Department wherein Alretha penned twelve theatre pieces, six of which she directed-the community response was overwhelming. This led to full-length plays outside of the church. In 2002, The Stella Adler Theater presented A Shrine to Junior. The play was nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award and in 2004, Alretha's play, Civil Rites, was the recipient of an NAACP Theatre Award. Her play Grandpa's Truth ran at the Inglewood Playhouse in Inglewood, California in 2006, and was extended more than once by popular demand. Not only did radio station KJLH support by recommending this production to its listeners, but notables like the Mayor of Inglewood, Roosevelt Dorn, and music legends like Freda Payne and Stevie Wonder had critical acclaim for Grandpa's Truth. This wonderful piece was featured on Channel 5 (KTLA News) by Entertainment Reporter, Sam Rubin. Additionally, in 2007, Alretha's play that she wrote and directed, Sacrificing Simone, had a successful run at Stage 52 in Los Angeles and was called "an inspirational crowd pleaser" by the Los Angeles Times and in 2009, Alretha's groundbreaking One, Woman Two Lives, starring Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), directed by four-time NAACP Image Award Best Director recipient Denise Dowse, garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences. In between plays, Alretha's first novel Daughter Denied was launched in 2008 and has received glowing reviews from readers and book clubs across the country. Representing her books, Alretha has been the guest on many radio shows and television shows including San Francisco Public Affairs show Bay Sunday with Barbara Rodgers on KTLA Channel 5. In 2011, Alretha launched her second novel, Dancing Her Dreams Away, and it was also well received. Her third novel, Married in the Nick of Nine, spawned a four-book series that was acquired by Soul Mate Publishing in January 2014. Alretha's award winning third indie novel, Four Ladies Only, was released February 2014. Alretha's first mystery novel, Missing Melissa, was released in 2015. In 2016, Justice for Jessica, the first book in her new Detective Rachel Storme series, was released. In 2016 Alretha returned to acting. I have been blessed to cover the NBA since 1998 with the Dallas Mavericks. I have interview several coaches and players. Kobe Bryant was truly a player that I will never forget. Bryant entered the National Basketball Association (NBA) directly from high school, and played his entire 20-season professional career in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant won five NBA championships, was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team, was named the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP), and was a two-time NBA Finals MVP winner. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, he led the NBA in scoring during two seasons, ranks fourth on the league's all-time regular season scoring, and ranks fourth on the all-time postseason scoring list. Bryant died on January 26, 2020, in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. Eight others, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant, and college baseball coach John Altobelli, were also killed. Aundrae Russell of KJLH is my guest on this show to talk about the life of Kobe Bryant. www.bgcsports.net

Meanwhile, outside, Angelinos will be laying on the horn and screaming at traffic, wondering why it’s taking them an hour to even get on the 101. But inside the theatre is where the interesting stuff happens. This is the Nighthawks Podcast, if you want the other stuff listen to KJLH radio’s traffic report. Shonta Gibson AKA Queen G's journey began about 7 years ago when she was asked to Co-host every Monday with DJ Big Keith in the city of Las Vegas on internet radio at station Xradio.biz. She co-hosted and discovered that she had a love and comfort of being in front of the camera as an interviewer and host. Carla Simpson of EOTM,( Entrapaneurs on the  Move), discovered that she had a thing for radio, so she offered her a spot with her team.  There she homed her skill in front of the mic, and was given opportunity to  interview celebrities. It was at EOTM that the broadcast name Queen G was developed, and has been her broadcast name since. Queen stayed with the fam at EOTM for about 4 years until the doors closed.  She went from there to Enter 907 live out of Alaska, where she Co-hosted with Slicc Young, it was called The Slicc Young and Queen G  radio show.  At this radio home she discovered her love and passion for social media, and what it takes to go to new levels in broadcasting. In most recent years she planted her feet with Nina Womack as a co-host of The Let's Be Whole radio show out of los angeles. It was a holistic approach to radio. Queen G holds her own, on a panel of three hosts.  She has also been a special guest on The Jeffrey Henderson radio show in Hollywood, Ca. as well as a list of others like the recent guest host spots with Crystal Glass of The I am Spot Light radio show at Accelerated radio, in Los Angeles owned by Kevin Nash of KJLH. No matter what Queen G is no holds barred and feels very comfortable in the broadcast seat.  She calls the radio her couch. Queen G definitely has a bright future in radio. letsgotoworkentertainment@gmail.com (310)910-4704

So much has been said and speculated recently about the Isaiah Washington controversy. Last week I was interviewed on KJLH, 102.3 FM, a Los Angeles based radio station to discuss Isaiah and the use of the "F-word" slur targeted towards the gay community. Attached to this message is a link to listen to the radio interview with host, Adai along with my personal written commentary on what I think is the true lesson to be learned. So what exactly can we learn from it; how can we grow from it; and what do we understand from this situation? Read entire commentary here........ Herndon www.herndondavis. com
