When creating a map for a national level story, the display of bodies of water can distract from the general map presentation. To allow Maps Designers the ability to control how bodies of water are shown, we have added a MAX RANK for bodies of water, with 1 being only the absolute largest lakes and 10 being all the bodies of water. This allows an XPression Maps Designer to control the bodies of water, within the Map Style they are using and additional controls in the OpenStreetMaps Overlay settings. www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U

However, borders that are along an ocean were not drawn, as the water is assumed to be the border, or in some cases the administrative border might extend into the ocean, sea, or other bodies of water. It is now possible to show the border alongside the body of water, using the resolution quality shown in the properties panel. www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U

The XPression Maps Templates used in the XPression MOS Workflow were designed for the artist to define the starting flight point and letting the newsroom user search for the end point. This means that there are several templates for doing a map. Now, it is possible to allow the Maps HTML5 client (MOS) user to define where they want to have the Map flight start, and better tell their story. It can also reduce the number of Maps templates and reduce some confusion over which templates to use to make a map. www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U

One of the most important parts of branding is consistency. When creating mapping content for your viewers, it is important to show them common locations the same way, most of the time. If you want your local maps to start with the same point of view each time, consider creating a bookmark to allow your XPression Maps Designers to use the same location each time. In this video, we explain XPression Maps Bookmarks to create a consistent reference point every time. www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
