In this episode I have a privilege to discuss again with Ken McLeod, who began his study and practice of Buddhism in 1970 under the eminent Tibetan master Kalu Rinpoche. We will be doing in-depth exploration of topics such as: What is the nature of prayer in Buddhism - and what is the role of dilemmas in spiritual growth? Are religions really a centuries long conversations about a certain question - and what are these different questions? Ken McLeod began his study and practice of Buddhism in 1970 under the eminent Tibetan master Kalu Rinpoche. After completing two three-year retreats, he was appointed as resident teacher for Kalu Rinpoche's center in Los Angeles, California, where he developed innovative approaches to teaching and translation. After his teacher's death in 1989, Ken established Unfettered Mind, a place for those whose path lies outside established institutions. His published works include The Great Path of Awakening, Wake Up to Your Life, An Arrow to the Heart, Reflections on Silver River, A Trackless Path and The Magic of Vajrayana. In this episode of This Must be The Place Liz opportunistically interviews Associate Professor Jan Scheurer. Jan has been involved in public transport accessibility research for several decades and has a particular interest in comparing the performance of public transport between cities, as well as identifying changes in networks over time. From the basics of better bus network planning, to the more recent hype cycle of trackless trams, here Jan reflects on lessons for public transport and liveability in Australian cities. Jan nearly always travels by PT or bike - and on this occasion he joined us in small-town Elmore, arriving on the late train in mid-winter in time for a 3 course meal by the fire. Which sounds a bit like the opening to a murder mystery but instead the conversation covers: • The SNAMUTS accessibility model; • Comparing public transport between cities and over time; • Recent improvements in public transport in Auckland and Sydney; • Bus network changes and the latest in network planning; • Lags in public transport in growing Australian cities; • Limitations of political announceables and major infrastructure focuses; • What constitutes good, user-friendly public transport including frequencies; • Reflections on hype cycles and panacea solutions in public transport; • Trackless trams!; • What is a trackless tram? What is a tram? What is a bus? Also what is a monorail?; • (General discussion of linguistic and operational differences along this spectrum); • Where trackless trams might work – e.g. expanding outer suburbs, or regional cities (Bendigo!); • “As a transport researcher I see my role as mitigating both ends of the hype cycle”; • The costs of tracks and of trams themselves; • Regional cities and their transport opportunities and challenges – is the Sunshine Coast what the Gold Coast was like 20 years ago?; • Meanwhile in Elmore – ‘big' trains (18 services per week!), and the mini train; • Never having a driver's license; • Bike riding in Perth and Baja California; • Living in Barcelona and “it's true that living in Barcelona you often spend extended periods of time not even thinking about cars”; • Lessons for Australian cities: “Dare to be a public transport city, dare to be an active transport city”; • Improvement is a long process, but “the outcome is a more liveable and sustainable city and what's wrong with that?”.
A new Covid-19 vaccine designed and manufactured in Adelaide starts human trials this week with potential to become a major export earner – and it doesn't require a needle injection. Trackless trams are again being proposed as a solution in connecting the Adelaide CBD to North Adelaide. A new survey has revealed a majority of car buyers are looking at the electric vehicle option. Port Adelaide has given its bid to play finals a major boost after star duo Ollie Wines and Connor Rozee spurred their side to a 23-point win against top-four hopefuls Sydney overnight. Ross Video would like to introduce you to Trackless Studio, our cost-effective solution for virtual set technology. We feel that Ross Video Trackless Studio can be a “game changer” for even your most basic video productions. The application opportunities for Trackless Studio are almost endless. Imagine having a library of stunning virtual sets allowing for dramatic camera moves, multi-camera support, transitions, live inputs, real-time 3D graphics, and updatable video clips and still images on the set. All this is done without a large studio space, and at an amazingly affordable price. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
This video is a comprehensive tutorial walking the user through the process of identifying the proper version of XPression to work with Ross Trackless Studio or XPression BlueBox and the proper installation and setup of the Trackless Studio software. Geared towards the maintenance or IT staff, this video is mainly installation, however, it is a good reference for operators who want an overall knowledge of Trackless Studio. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
Launching Trackless Studio and XPression in the proper order is important to establishing the “handshake” between the two applications. This short video provides instruction on the proper order for launching and gives the operator the confidence to continue forward in the playback process. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
Understanding the Menu option of a software application can make the different between the operator mastering the software or the software mastering the operator. The quick tutorial walks the viewer through the items on the main menu and when or why to use them. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
The Trackless Studio playout process is handled through the Production Control screen. Learning the specific functions of the main areas on this part of the user interface gives the operator the confidence to handle their show knowing what controls are available to them. Viewing this tutorial as well as the Trackless Studio Basic Operation Overview gives the operator a solid understanding of how to set up and run a basic show. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
There are some essential but simple settings that need to be set up and occasionally reviewed and tweaked in Trackless Studio. Items such as setting up the Chroma key for each live input, setting up or updating a list media to be used in either hot-swap mode or event-base triggering. Learning to set up or modify the chroma key settings as well as modifying the media and event presets helps to take an operator to the next level of Trackless Studio user. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
Setting up a Trackless Studio show will be easy after reviewing this tutorial. Setting up different Scene Presets and triggering moves between the camera presets and transitions between scenes of presets to mimic a full studio production workflow. Setting presets, adjusting transition durations based on production demands and setting new presets when needed, give the operator comprehensive set of handles on the entire production. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
Virtual sets can contain virtual monitors, and it is easy to change the content, such as Videos, still Images or live sources to fill the monitors, using the Trackless Studio Media Events and Hot Swap functions. Setting up a series of media events that can be triggered from the Production Control interface is quick and easy. The use of events can handle more than just updating media in the monitors; Media Events can update Datalinq™ sources, on-set objects, insert graphics superimposed on the program stream and event selecting other camera presets can all be part of a Media Event in Trackless Studio. For a random access type of program, the Media Hot Swap tools allow operators to select a pool of preset media (videos, still images or live sources), and simply click on them to selectively populate the on-set monitors and keep up with the on screen dialog. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
Trackless Studio can be more than just the virtual set in your production. Using the Events settings in Trackless Studio, it is possible to use other scenes in the XPression Project which has the virtual set. Adding another scene, and even populating it with new content is simple, and this video provides an awesome tutorial on how to set up Insert Graphics events for your virtual set solution. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
Adding XPression graphics in or over the Trackless Virtual Studio is easy to do, using Events. Setting a scene with Datalinq™ keys online and then sending a new Datalinq™ key value allows users to update lower-third name graphics or even election results in complex data visualizations. This video will take users through the steps to add a lower third name super and update the contents using events, within Ross Video's trackless Studio. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U
In a live production control room, a great user interface still requires a dedicated control surface, sometimes. Ross Video has created an optional keyboard for controlling Trackless Studio with single keystrokes. Recalling camera presets, events or even transitions can now be done with dedicated keystrokes. There is even a joystick for immediate access to repositioning the scene camera. This is extremely helpful in the pre-production times for setting camera presets as well as random control of the scene camera for immediate camera repositioning while in production. Take a look at this quick introduction video to see if the Trackless Studio dedicated controller option is right for your productions. Living Live! with Ross Video www.rossvideo.com/XPression-U

I wonder if everyone has some feeling like that, at some point in their life. It comes in and out, like static on radio, for me.I think the idealized life is often said to be “in balance”—work-life balance, family balance, relationship balance, or balancing your checkbook (just kidding). Maybe a life that feels aligned is one of balance? Yet, for me, those moments where I feel properly “in the flow” aren’t continuous. Which leaves me wanting them when they are gone, which, in a way, creates imbalance.I read recently that the idea of balance in the natural world is actually misguided. The natural world is a chaotic series of successions. A forest burns and fireweed sprouts. Aspens, their roots underground and safe from fire, send up shoots in every direction, eventually shading out the fireweed and almost anything else. In fifty to a hundred years the aspens grow huge and die and fall, just in time for the seedlings of fir and pine and hemlock, which grew from seeds brought there and cached by birds and mammals, to rocket skyward. The idea of balance, this unattainable thing (if we’re being honest), is applied to human lives, since it exists in nature, right? What if it doesn’t exist in nature, what then? Maybe our lives are actually not meant to be balanced, and the attempt to seek some perfect balance is impossible. It makes us chase that “in the flow” feeling, which sets up life to be a series of ups and downs. Life is and always was and always will be a series of unpredictable events. There is no perpetual balance within uncertainty. Maybe life is more like an infinite act of rebalancing, or, you could say, flowing. And yet nature functions well, and we do too. Nature has us beat in that it does not worry about balance. It just expresses, in all its mystery, the breath of life. And I feel myself, myself, what I am made to do, if I am honest, is to do the same.Yesterday Anna and I drove the truck up the mountain to a creekside trail we found a year ago. We went down it together, amazed at the colors and motion of butterflies that seemed to spontaneously appear in the sunlight. The aspen trunks were white and snow lay in crevices along the path. We wound down to the river and walked along it for a while, then found a meadow. I set up my tent, just for fun, and used a small camp axe to buck some wood for whoever would have a fire there next. Anna laid in the sun, or watched the river flow by.Over Anna’s chest and down the left side of her body hung a massive, thick braid. I picked up the end of it. “Remember biking the road up to Big Bear?” I asked. “Yeah, I was just looking at photos from then”, she said, “and three years ago we did that ride. After we got back I went up to Washington and stayed with Brit and Sam and then went to my mom’s house and cut off all my hair.” “Three years of growth,” I said pulling lightly at her thick braid. To realize three years had passed since then felt funny and sad at the same time. Because, mostly, this flow of experiences we name Life doesn’t always flow easily or clearly. The pain of the turns can be acute. And yet, they all flow together somewhere, and get bunched up in memory, and then you can sit on a rock in the spring sun in the mountains and think about all the times when things weren’t so good, and the times also when they were good, and then come back to the time right now—which is really all the time we have. And it’s strange to think of, that there is a physical representation of all that time that hangs beautiful and thick from Anna’s head—of a thousand thousand strands braided together—of three years of growth. Some of the world-wide parks actually have some pretty amazing ride systems that do NOT have tracks. This innovation in other parks eventually led us to Rise of the Resistance, so we suppose it's ok that we had to wait for so long to get a truly cool trackless ride. Sorry Luigi. Lyrics: You may call it crash, I call it a fly in Here to perform on this desert-ed island Jealous, cause I leave a pony smilin'? You need to chill, cause you knowin' who I am Out here, no cell phone service With a blank stare, it don't serve its purpose Not worthless, look under the surface Clear blue sea and these ponies are shirtless Spectacular, you don't speak tree The vernacular, you. know it beats me; Never mastered words, it isn't easy. Leave a wreck afterwards, so Tavi please please I need a beat- we need an atlas, I need a drink, but we're rather mapless At an impasse- pass me the track list Trackless in fact, though I lack this, I blast this. Not known to be patient So far from home- from our Equestrian nation Miss the standing ovation Miss the lights and the stage: what a grand innovation Pain is bass: heavy, I drop it Smile in place, don't know you got it Don't always get what you're hopin' for More worry than a bat with a Jokermort But we're still breathing And the sunset is setting so sweetly this evening. Know you're thinking of leaving, But though it seems hopeless, I hope you believe me. It's an issue not insurmountable Never was a test, no one holds you accountable, Can't advance in life without a little stressin', And though worry defeats, let me teach you a lesson Life is full of problems- life is full of hurtin'- But it's hardest to solve when your mind isn't certain That you're on the right path, right track- what's that? don't know where we are, but I know where we're at. Gallop-agos Islands, I'm here with you Don't pick sides when it's only we two Don't brood, what did I do? You're my best friend, there's no need to argue! To have a good time I don't need your permission, But time'll crawl by when's work's inefficient. know that you're raring to go and get fishin'. But, Tavi, Tavi, stop and just listen! We'll carry on cause somebody gets you, So sing your song and the melody will let you Get your worries gone know Celest'll bless you. New day will dawn and we'll focus on our rescue 1 2 3 Tavi dance with me! Though we're lost at sea the best is just no way to be, come on let's take things slow help is on its way I know so we've know where to go! Call it crash, or call it a fly in Here to perform on this desert-ed island Jealous, cause I leave a pony smilin'? You need to chill, cause you know just who I am Out here, no cell phone service With a blank stare, it don't serve its purpose Not worthless, look under the surface Clear blue sea and these ponies are shirtless.
