This annual wrap-up celebrates the biggest songs in dance and club music across all genres, showcasing the tracks that defined the dance floor in 2024. Among the highlights, the newest trend to capture the scene—Afro House—has sparked discussion. However, let's set the record straight: Afro House is neither new nor always true to its roots. While one standout track in this year's lineup genuinely fits the genre, much of what is labeled Afro House has been stripped of its African origins, replaced with slowed-down beats (120 BPM) and polished for mainstream appeal. This critique isn't about quality—many of these tracks are excellent—but longtime House aficionados will recognize the percussive elements as familiar territory. Like Nu Disco before it, Afro House is having its moment. Yet with so many producers relying on the same loops and software, the genre risks burnout before it can truly solidify. Credit is due to Rivo, whose rework of Disclosure's “You and Me” ignited the trend earlier this year. This stellar remix skyrocketed to become one of the biggest electronic tracks of 2024. John Summit: A Living Legend John Summit continued his meteoric rise this year with the much-hyped “Shiver.” The track showcases his ability to explore new genres while maintaining his signature dark, ethereal, and moody style. At this point, Summit is reaching Avicii-level stardom, but his continued output of bangers suggests he's handling the pressure with grace. Here's hoping he finds the balance between delivering hits and taking time for himself. PAWSA: From Underground to Mainstream One of the year's most unexpected breakthroughs was the massive success of PAWSA. Though the London-based DJ has been active since 2014, 2024 was his breakout year. With “Too Cool to Be Careless” and “That Phone Track” dominating the Beatport Top 100 for months, PAWSA's stripped-down House style became a dancefloor staple. Closing the year with a rework of Adventures of Stevie V's 1990 classic “Dirty Cash,” he solidified his position at the forefront of modern House music. Viral Revival: Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Mason vs. Princess Superstar Two early-2000s tracks found new life in 2024 thanks to their inclusion in the streaming hit Saltburn. Sophie Ellis-Bextor's “Murder on the Dance Floor” and Mason vs. Princess Superstar's “Perfect (Exceeder)” went viral on TikTok, sparking interest from a new generation of fans. Ellis-Bextor's 2001 hit and the 2007 mashup both surged in popularity, proving the timelessness of their dance-floor appeal. Pop Meets Dance: Sabrina Carpenter's Moment

This is DJ Samer and you're listening to the 114th episode of the Pangea Podcast. This month's mix is courtesy of long time friend and supporter, Chris Bingham aka DJ*B. Chris made a name for himself DJing in Arizona and small parties with me in the Southern California area in the early 2000s. We became friends and production partners, and if you look you will find some originals and remixes that we did for some pretty fine underground labels. The fact of the matter is that when Chris spins, he has a good sound, so here is DJ*B as our featured guest this month. Also, be sure to check out our newest release on my Pangea label by the UK's ‘thebassmonkey' called “Malaba”, with outstanding remixes from Seth Vogt, Rob Benninger and Hansgod. House music at its best! Let Dave Baker take you on a journey of discovery and aural pleasure as he brings you the hottest and freshest funky, deep and tech house releases every week. It's a special edition this week as we temporarily put aside the latest releases (there weren't many) and play some of the biggest selling house and tech house tracks from 2022 according to the Beatport Top 100 Sellers chart. Counting down to the number one selling track, we cram as many tunes as possible into an hour, leaving room at the end to pay tribute to Faithless legend Maxi Jazz who sadly passed away on December 23rd. Maxi's amazing voice and lyrics on Insomnia are firmly embedded in the minds of many clubbers past and present, and no doubt in the future too in what has proven to be a timeless classic. Next episode of this exclusive collection with oriental and overall ethnic melodic deep house vibes. This session is mixed by Julia Poly who is an artist signed to Pukka Up, Suka, Dear Deer records and also as Beatport Top 100 techhouse chart artist. Beginning her career in her native Ukraine, she's since called Eqypt and Dubai home, playing at some of the hottest bars and clubs across the Middle East. After conquering the local scene in Kiev, she took her headphones and her encyclopedic record collection to Eqypt, where she headed up the Terrazzina Beach Club, alongside regular slots at hedonistic joints Hed Kandi and Pacha in Sharm-el-Shekih. Now based in Dubai for more than 5 years, she's held residencies at UAE hot-spots Apres, LaLuz, and the stunning Atlantis The Palm lounge Yuan, as well as the more laidback Cuba Lounge. When it comes to production, Julia's real passion is club-ready house music. She's released several high profile records including 2014's ‘Live And Die in LA' as well as tracks on America's Heavenly Bodies Records and French label Suka. And mainstream success came calling last year when her free download ‘Sunrise on Mars' went viral with support from all over the world. In summer 2017 her “We are Future” EP on Dear Deer White (sub-label of Dear Deer records) landed in Beatport Progressive house Chart under the number 64. Bissen on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 11am PST 10/04/22 About Bissen - Hot off his second mix compilation album, a continuous US tour, a slew of major label remixes for the likes of M83, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Major Lazer, Jojo and Ruth B, two Beatport Top 10 hits over the last couple year with his project Exostate, and a slew of upcoming releases in the pipelines, German-born, New York residing Georg Bissen has never been busier making his mark in the world of EDM. Bissen has created some of the biggest dancefloor smashers in the club scene in recent years, all while also designing sound presets for Ableton Live, Sample Logic and others, writing music for adverts for some of the world's biggest brands, doing sound design and composing for major TV networks, and running his own music licensing, production and publishing business. Storming the scene almost a decade ago with the now classics "Exhale" and "Quicksand," Bissen has, as a dance music artist and producer, had over a hundred original and remix releases since. These records have been released on some of the biggest, most desired and well-respected labels in the industry, including many of the major label imprints. Always in pursuit of a fist-pumping, "all systems go" attitude, Bissen's sound exhibits an effective blend of tough, energetic beats and grooves, coupled with extremely memorable, big melodic riffs and hooks--proper huge tunes for dancefloors, not armchairs, that have lasting impacts on clubgoers and DJs alike. Bissen creates one club banger after another, from his remix of the Black Eyed Peas #1 song "I Gotta Feeling", which was one of Ibiza's summer anthems of 2009 and received extensive UK BBC Radio1 play, to 2011's "2nite U R Perfect", which was one of the year's most memorable club songs, being featured on German and US FM radio, as well as on DMX, reaching millions of shoppers every day; to 2016's remix of The Chainsmoker's "Don't Let Me Down", which got extensive club and US terrestrial radio play, especially on New York's 103.5 WKTU. 2011 saw Bissen start up his project "Exostate" with singer Jeza for Enhanced Recordings, 2 out of 3 singles released so far reaching the Beatport Top 10. In late 2012, along with long-term collaborator Victor Dinaire, Bissen embarked on doing remixes for major artists and labels, starting with the French art rock band M83's "Steve McQueen", received to much critical acclaim, as well as Major Lazer and Flux Pavilion's "Jah No Partial", which went top 25 on the Billboard club charts. With a remix in 2014 for Bingo Players' “Knock You Out” the duo helped propel the release to #1 on the Billboard Club charts, scoring their first #1 record on that chart. Dinaire and Bissen have since lent their hands to dozens of remixes, helping releases chart in the top 10 of the Billboard Club Play Charts numerous times since 2014, with 5 additional #1s so far. In 2016, Dinaire+Bissen remixed Ruth B "Lost Boy", which went into summer-long regular rotation on terrestrial US radio, including WAPE Jacksonville and KKHH Houston. In 2015, alongside Victor Dinaire, Bissen scored the documentary “Glory Daze: The Life and Times of Michael Alig”, which documents the heyday of New York clubbing in the 90s. The soundtrack is an authentic representation of the classic New York club sound of the mid 1990s. The movie saw a North American release in 2016 and can currently be viewed on all major streaming portals as well as on Netflix. In 2016 Bissen started working closely with renowned DJ Tony Moran. Their collaborative effort has spawned over 2 dozen works, including many original records for Moran, as well as joining together for a few remixes. Bissen eventually produced and co-produced over half of Moran's latest double-sided album "Mood Swings." The two updated a cover version of the 90's Lighthouse Family “High” as a charity song for the 2016 Orlando club shooting massacre victim's families. As a DJ, Bissen delivers his no-nonsense approach with exciting and uplifting sets. He boasts over a decade of spinning experience, beginning in college, and continuing in New York, where, for years he djayed at loft parties, which he helped organize. Since 2011, Bissen has seen his international DJ career soar, playing in the UK, Germany and Canada, as well as filling clubs all over the US, including Los Angeles (Circus), San Diego (Hard Rock), Philadelphia (Rumor), Orange County (Sutra) and of course New York, where he currently plays about once a month-- from big rooms such as Pacha and Webster Hall, to more intimate venues, where he can experiment with and debut new tracks. In September 2012 Bissen celebrated the 100th episode of his radioshow and podcast "TranceAtlantic" live at the National Underground in New York. The 8-hour event was broadcast live on ETN.fm. TranceAtlantic is well past its 300th episode now, and is currently broadcast weekly on iHeartRadio, ETN.fm, 1Mix Radio, Party 103, Interference Radio and Party 107, with more syndications forthcoming. A full-time music professional, Bissen has written and collaborated on close to two thousand pieces of music and projects in his decade-long music career. Bissen got his start in the music business when he moved to New York City to work as a composer and engineer in the music for advertising industry. He formed his own music production and licensing company MetaTechnik soon after, which now boasts two offices in New York and Los Angeles. At MetaTechnik, Bissen has produced award-winning music for over 150 major national and international television shows and commercials. Due to this fact, his work is heard by tens of millions of people every week. By staying focused and consistently enhancing his sound and music, Bissen continues to carve his very own niche, with his versatility and far-reaching talents now penetrating almost all facets of the music industry, and growing every day. EPISODE 043 #dj #djlife #vinyl #housemusic #podcast #producer Video Version: https://youtu.be/cmQoBYf-R28 Jake has been around house/tech house since the womb...quite literally, dating back to 97' where he was raving in his mum's stomach at 'Wiggle' events! Producing from age 14, he is now in his early 20's and after getting into DJ'ing within the past 2 years, he has already released on a host of well established labels (see discography). Working with the likes of top respected artists including; Orlando Voorn, Terry Francis & Damolh33. His mixing has also brought him alongside both Superfreq + Wiggle - supporting/playing at their parties. The unique style Jake brings to the ‘underground' scene seems to be the perfect bridge between tech houses original grass roots... and where it is now heading in modern day times! Recently charting at #2 in the Beatport Top 100, his single “Audioerotica” then went on to get national radio play on BBC Radio 1. The future is looking bright (or should we say dark) for Jake, as we all know this kind of Tech House is a thing of the night. Martin Eyerer on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 6/14/22 About Martin Eyerer - For more than 30 years Martin Eyerer has traveled heavily around the globe as a DJ and producer. His more than 150 releases on the hottest labels like Renaissance, My Favorite Robot, Get Physical, Rejected order on his own imprint Kling Klong are bought and played on continents from Australia, Asia to North and South America and of course Europe. Countless sales and other chart positionings as well as media feedback prove that impressively. As a producer Martin has something to show as well: Gold Albums in UK and Australia and a top 3 US Billboard chart ranking have a great effect here. As a mixing and mastering engineer Martin has run a respectable analog studio for 15 years, which has an established standing especially in the electronic music scene. After moving from Stuttgart to Berlin in August 2012 Martin and his partners Jade Souaid and Tassilo Ippenberger opened together the Riverside Studios – a 2000 m2 complex in the heart of Berlin. With direct river views and the neighborhood to clubs like Berghain, Watergate, Kater Blau, Tresor or Weekend it became one of the hotspots of Berlin's music scene. Of course Martin has his space there, too. On 100 m2 he brought his studio to the next level. The restoration of his legendary Amek M 3000 Console that was formerly owned by Pink Floyd in the seventies completed it surely. By the end of 2013 Martin Eyerer startet to work on his 3rd longplayer including interesting and already confirmed corporations withPrincess Superstar, Abby, Knixx and Ruede Hagelstein. End of 2014 the album – Struktur – was released on Martin‘s very own label Kling Klong and received huge feedback from the music scene. A few more releases on labels like Get Physical, Saved and Rejected followed the 4 singles of the album in 2015 and a global tour that lead Martin once more around the world. In 2016 releases on my favorite robot, Bedrock, Danse UK, Suara and Kling Klong were released and played all over the globe. The most successful one was Martin Eyerer & Ackermann feat Craig Walker – former singer from the band Archive. Originals and the kaiserdisco remix hit the Beatport Top 20. 2017 was full of successful releases: An EP on Second State, 2 new Kling Klongs and the final Album remix package by Tobi Neumann, Oliver Dollar and AFFKT already kept Martin's name going. Further releases on Bedrock and Culprit L.A. and his latest imprint he started with Ackermann named ignite. In 2018 Martin focused more on his management side at Riverside Studios Berlin. Besides its established networks of musicians and producers, he started to drive the company with a music and tech related side, which affected the way he chose further collaborations. 2020 obviously was a very special year for artists and producers under the Covid 19 pandemic. Martin – meanwhile also working as CEO for Factory Berlin – set up with his team many collaborations between artists and tech people. International artists from music but also other disciplines started to work on AR/VR and mixed reality formats. Technology and music and art together is the new thing Martin extended his horizon to. Bringing his company Riverside Studios Berlin together with the Factory Berlin ecosystem led to a very successful path for both. On the studio side Martin was active too: While working on his new studio album (expected to be finished in Jan 2021) he released a few new records on labels like bar25, Kling Klong, Ignite or still hot Berlin. His weekly podcast /Radioshow is broadcasted in more than 20 countries and has a reach of 700,000 listeners every week. http://www.martineyerer.de http://www.facebook.com/martineyerer http://www.soundcloud.com/martineyerer About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Protoculture on the Virtual Sessions presented by The DJ Sessions 4/20/22 About Protoculture - 'Everything he touches turns to musical gold' - Armin van Buuren, A State of Trance Only a few South African producers enjoy the success that DJ and Producer Nate Raubenheimer, better known to most as Protoculture, has had over the last 12 years of his career. Hailed by many of his piers as South Africa's biggest dance music export, he has also left his mark on the international dance scene with his trademark blend of melodic and emotionally charged compositions and DJ sets. Sucked into the art of music production at a young age, Nate made the leap to pursue a music career professionally after completing his studies in Audio Engineering at age 20, immediately taking the international psy-trance scene by storm. His international debut came at the United Kingdom's famed Glastonbury Festival. With the release of his first artist album, “Refractions”, and the follow up “Circadians”, a slew of international performances ensued worldwide, seeing Nate travel to all four corners of the globe. From London to Tokyo, Sao Paulo to Moscow, Protoculture was a staple at psy-trance festivals around the globe, most notably at Glade in the UK, Universo Parallello in Bahia, Brazil, Earthcore Global Carnival in Melbourne, Australia and Ozora Festival near Budapest. Protoculture's 2010 album, “Love Technology” ushered in a great deal of changes for the South African producer, bridging the gap between his previous exclusively underground sound with influences from other genres. The album garnered attention from industry heavyweights Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Max Graham and Paul Oakenfold with the single, ‘Naked' receiving support on all the aforementioned artists radio shows as well as being named ‘Track of the week' on Global DJ Broadcast. This heralded the beginning of a new era for Nate, quickly being snapped by Max Graham's Rebrand Records and Dutch powerhouse label, Armada Music which became the home for hit singles such as “Sun Gone Down”, “Cobalt”, “Topaz”, “Laguna” and many others, all smashing the Beatport Top 10 Trance charts. Nate has also built impressive remix credentials over the years at Armada, being credited with remixes for Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Paul Oakenfold, Bryan Adams, Dash Berlin, Robert Miles, Jeanne Michelle Jarre and Nadia Ali. The Protoculture and Max Graham remix of Paul Oakenfold's ‘Grace – Not Over Yet' landed a number one on the Beatport Trance charts and the held the position for over a month, as well as scoring a number one position on the UK Buzz Charts and DMC UK Club Charts. He also received a SAMA nomination (South African Music Award) for his remix work on Goldfish's smash hit, ‘Cruising through' on Pacha Recordings. Protoculture, as a DJ and live performer, ranked South Africa's number one DJ according to the DJ Mag Top 100 polls from 2011 to present, has also played alongside a diverse range of international heavyweights such as Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Armin van Buuren, Orbital, Future Sound of London, Gareth Emery, Sander van Doorn to name but a few. A staple at Armin van Buuren's legendary A State of Trance World Tours, Nate performed alongside the 5 times world number one DJ in Mexico, South Africa and The Netherlands to sell out crowds with live performances being broadcast around the world live to over 20 million people. He has also graced the DJ booths at legendary club venues such as Ministry of Sound, UK, Ushaia and Privelege, Ibiza, Ageha, Tokyo, Colosseum, Jakarta, as well as Foundation, Seattle, Exchange, Los Angeles and more in the United States. No stranger to the festival circuit either he has performed at Fuji Rock festival in Japan and the Zurich Street Parade as well as other festival brands such as Godskitchen, Creamfields, Urban Wave (Camel Experience), Amsterdam Dance Event, Electronic Family, H20 Events, the legendary Tomorrowland and most recently Ultra Music Festival. The AM, also known as Ann-Marie Teasley is a techno DJ that started out as a classical violinist in Detroit, MI. She discovered the underground rave scene in her hometown in 1996 and her sound is a reflection of the dark hard music she discovered in warehouses and abandoned theatres. Her sets take you on a nostalgic journey through electro straight from the streets of Detroit, to raw and funky peak time techno. The AM made her debut as a guest DJ on NTS radio being featured on Ash_Lauryn's Underground and Black show in 2017 while living in Miami, FL. From there she began playing local parties around Miami Beach. In 2019, she relocated to Detroit, and began playing local clubs like TV Lounge and Grasshopper Underground. Upon her return, she also began to work with Detroit's very own Scan7. After being on the bill at the same events around Detroit, The AM teamed up with Mr. Hooper, the youngest member of Scan7 for hard hitting live DJ sets. After spending time discovering hardware in the studio with Scan7, The AM and Mr. Hooper decided to create an official joint venture called HLX-1. HLX-1 recorded their first two self-released singles “I Can Tell” and “The Cosmos” at Submerge Records in Detroit, MI in August 2020. From there, they continued working and switched from DJ sets, to live techno sets, including all original music created by HLX-1. In December of 2020 the HLX-1 track “I Can Tell” was featured on Beatport's ‘Top 50 tracks of 2020' list. The AM was also featured on Beatport's ‘On our radar' for August 2020 and closed out the year with a set for Paxahau TV streamed from their headquarters in Detroit. To kick off 2021 The AM was featured on Rinse FM, NTS Radio with Moxie, The HNYPOT Podcast hosted by Honey Soundsystem, and Resident Advisor's top DJ's for February, while writing and recording two EP's with Ken Clements for HLX-1 in collaboration with DJ Maaco and Mark Flash. The AM currently curates a monthly live Techno show with Detroit Promo TV in collaboration with Underground and Black ‘The Detroit Edition,' which is focused on showcasing artists and their skills live on the decks. Detroit Promo TV also known as “THE BASSMENT DETROIT” has been preserving the Detroit Underground realness for the past eight years and welcomed The AM as a host after her first guest appesrance. DJ Marlon Flohr and producer Ralph van Hilst, who together form Bassjackers, are perfectly in sync as a duo. Marlon is the wild one, rocking each and every stage they play, and Ralph is more cool and collected, preferring to shine behind the scenes on the producer seat. Their opposing personalities are a perfect combination for this unique one DJ-one producer collaboration. The duo exploded onto the scene in 2011 and their dance hit “Mush Mush” was picked up by Tiësto and released on his label Musical Freedom. The track dominated the Beatport Top 10 chart for over two months and was one of the biggest festival tracks of the year.
