The latter days of winter bring a special kind of fatigue mixed with impatience. For residents of snow-crossed parts of the country, winter has begun to overstay its welcome; while here in California, the trees are blossoming, and February feels like spring. As the sound of the season evolves, music of the far north and Arctic countries still resonates, connecting with contemplative acoustic mainstays like the cello and the piano. From deep minimalist patterns to Romantic melodicism, we find the soul and comfort to endure. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, wintry acoustic spacemusic for the season, on a program called WINTERTONES 2. The serene spaces of contemplative minimalism have attracted some strange bedfellows over the years, including classical, new music, and experimental composers, serious jazz artists, ambient-electronic sound sculptors, and native musicians from the far north. They share a taste for consonance, repetition, slow tempos, electro-acoustic instrumentation, and expanded ambience. In these vast, frigid spaces, time seems to slow and even stop. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, timeless soundscapes inspired by the Arctic North, on a program called "FROZEN TIME." Music is by CHRISTEL VERAART, JEFF GREINKE, TIGRAN HAMASYAN, JOHN LUTHER ADAMS, MICHAEL JON FINK, SOMEI SATOH, and OLAFUR ARNALDS. Osmium #60: bedroevende btw-tarieven en (on)gecureerde festivals

Feest!

Join Luz Cabrales on a special episode of Scranton Talks, featuring Tierney Violet Joyce, Zach Sprowls & Maureen Mcguigan, all performing at the Scranton Fringe Festival 2023.Tierney Violet Joyce posted her first episode of 52 Mondays on January 2, 2023 - and hasn't missed a Monday yet! Tierney started this project to share her passion for Musical Theatre: the songs she loves, the shows that inspire her, and her respect for all of the elements that come together to create live theater. She will be joined on stage with the incredibly talented Stephen Murphy as Music Director and Accompanist. Tierney is excited to bring 52 Mondays The Cabaret to the Scranton Fringe Festival.Scranton-based pianist and composer, Zach Sprowls, presents the world premier of an instrumental telling of what it's like to start over. Featuring the piano and a live string trio, Zach uses elements of neoclassical minimalism, melody, and aching harmony to translate his own life experiences into a deeply-felt journey for listeners. His music has already been featured on highly-acclaimed KEXP radio and performed by members of the US Army Strings and the National Symphony Orchestra. For fans of Max Richter, Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm - or really anyone who knows the ups and downs of growing up - this is an experience you don't want to miss. This event is part of the Scranton Fringe Festival.Maureen McGuigan-Death is probably the most taboo subject in our society and rarely discussed enough, but the only certain thing in life is that we will die. We know this intellectually but facing and coping with the loss of loved ones and our own ultimate death in a real and visceral way can be scary and overwhelming. In this one-woman show, Maureen McGuigan shares her own struggle with dealing with this topic through humor, personal stories, history, and science. Directed by Alicia Grega featuring projection and music by Jason Smeltzer, the performance encourages us to reflect on and discuss death more to help us live a more authentic and meaningful life.

I just got back from a week in Iceland so naturally I had to make a mix with music from Icelandic artists. The usual suspects are here - Sigur Ros, Johann Johannsson, Bjork, Olafur Arnalds, along with some new additions.  It still boggles my mind that the tiny island has produced such amazing music. But now, having been there, I guess it makes a bit more sense because the place is unique. The landscape and spirit seeps into your mind and body like hot water through porous volcanic rock. It's impossible not to fall in love with the people and the natural beauty.     Hopefully this mix can be your own mini vaca to Iceland. Indonesian musicians Rara Sekar, Sandrayati, Ugoran Prasad and Rully Shabara discuss music and social change, trying to thrive as musicians in the age of social media, and whether or not all musicians have an equal opportunity to succeed. Rara Sekar's career in music began as the vocalist for folk group Banda Neira, as well as a member of Daramuda. In 2020 she began her solo project hara, in which she creates a musical fusion inspired by folk, ambient and post-rock music. She is also an anthropologist, having completed a master's degree in cultural anthropology from Victoria University of Wellington. Sandrayati is a Filipino-American singer who grew up in Java and Bali, whose music explores the pain and beauty of uprooting and planting yourself somewhere else. She possess a light, dream-like singing voice and has recently released Safe Ground, an album created in Iceland alongside Olafur Arnalds. Ugoran Prasad is a renowned Indonesian fictionist, dramaturg and musician who is perhaps best known for fronting modern rock band Majelis Lidah Berduri. Their restless, exciting sound has made them one of Indonesia's most important indie bands over the last few decades, and they are currently working on their fourth studio album. Rully Shabara is an Indonesian artist and vocalist whose main musical interest lies in exploring the human voice as a medium of creation. He's a genre-bending musician whose duo Senyawa are pushing the boundaries of experimental music in Indonesia.

Przykładowi wykonawcy: Moderat, GusGus, Yuksek, RuFus du Sol, Olafur Arnalds, Goldfrapp, Todd Terje, Black Cofee, Man Without Country, The New Divison, KAMP!, Prins Thomas i wielu innych.

In a small coastal town almost as far south you can get in Norway, Lars Jakob Rudjord creates instrumental music that takes you to places you've never been before. Though often compared to the likes of Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds or Joep Beving, Lars Jakob Rudjord has most certainly established his very own sound in the modern classical world. His melodies are just as well inspired by classical music, as by Norwegian folk music and Nordic folklore. In our conversation we touch on a bunch of different topics like the relationship between different genres like classical, jazz and folk, ways to explore your voice as a composer, the piano as a folk music instrument, the challenges of approaching folk music coming from other genres, small town life as a musician and more! For links and more info, please visit: https://thefolkmusicpodcast.com/episodes/indiepiano-with-lars-jakob-rudjord

Since the release of his debut album Eulogy for Evolution fifteen years ago, Olafur Arnalds has become something of a mainstream success, earning placements in films like The Hunger Games and Looper and receiving a Grammy nomination for his 2020 song with Bonobo “Loom.” All of this may be surprising considering he makes instrumental, piano-based soundscapes that don't exactly scream “mainstream.” But the emotion he's able to convey through his music reaches a wide range of people who maybe wouldn't necessarily gravitate towards instrumental music. This summer he stopped by KEXP for an emotional performance that, according to his conversation with Cheryl Waters, is about being ready for love and opening your heart to the possibility of it.   I've been a fan of the Deutsche Grammophon label for a long time, ever since I got this Steve Reich box set back in the early 80s in college. I've collected quite a few DG recordings over the years. Over the last 5 years or so I've noticed them branching out and releasing music by a wider variety of artists and music that isn't strictly classical. From Moby to Christian Löffler to Olafur Arnalds to Brian Eno to Clark, the music is surprising for DG but also seems to fit well. After a lot of listening to Parallels by Christian Löffler, I decided to do a mix of recent DG favs. I hope you enjoy it. The Broken Cradle is an Ambient, Electronic, and Neoclassical artist and is the solo work of Eric McLean, a musician of over 20 years.Influenced by the likes of Nils Frahm, Alessandro Cortini, Brian Eno, and Olafur Arnalds, The Broken Cradle leans toward compositional ambient and neoclassical music that moves from soothing piano melodies to gritty and soaring synthetic atmospheres. His music tells a story through the moods and soundscapes, interposed with gentle felt piano and strings. The tracks featured in this episode, graciously shared by Eric,  are off his album “You Are Here and I Am Yours”.  See below for a statement from Eric about the album and a link to follow and listen to all things The Broken Cradle, and as always, thanks for listening!“You Are Here and I Am Yours" is the story of family. The LP is an intimate look at what it means to be a family, from the pains of infertility and loss to the joy of adoption and birth. This is my story. This is the love letter to my children, each a unique soul that came to us in equally unique ways. Each song is a piece of a 10-year journey and tries to capture a glimpse of the most important people and moments in my life.My hope is that you can find your own story here.  While this is my memoir in a sense, I know that music takes on new shapes, meanings, and interpretations.   Ugh, this was difficult. I went through old end-of-the-year lists, checked Spotify playlists, looked up other folks' lists and dug up old mixes. There is just no easy way to sort through soooooo much music. But I finally ended up with something that is sort of coherent.  I decided not to call this mix Best of the Decade as I have done with mixes for years. I've realized that the "Best" label is not accurate.  I'm sure I missed a ton of albums and I feel bad leaving some out. So these are my favorites that provide a good cross-section of ambient throughout the decade.  Initially, I had harder electronic artists like Jon Hopkins & Rival Consoles on the list but I realized that I'd rather split those off into a smaller, favorite electronic album of the decade lineup. I'm not sure if I'll make a mix for the electronic favs but I'll at least post the list soon.  The first thing that you'll notice about this mix is it's looooong. This is the longest mix I've done other than Endless Ambient, which was 5 or 6 hours long. This one clocks in at about 3 hours and 19 minutes. I basically was too lazy to make 2 mixes so we'll all have to put up with this monster which is actually kind of cool having this large of a collection of great music.  Here's the list in alphabetical order: 1. 36 - Memories in Widescreen (2010) 2. 36 - Sine Dust EP (2015) 3. 36 - Tomorrow's Explorers (2017) 4. 2814 - 新しい日の誕生 (2016) 5.   Johann Johannsson died on Friday, February 9, 2018.   Devastating.    I absolutely adored his compositions.   I am at a complete loss for what to say about his music. So rather than try I made this mix.   Because I cross post all these mixes over on Mixcloud I am not able to make a mix with nothing but Johannsson music. Mixcloud has a policy of only 4 tracks from a single artist per mix. So I used 4 Johannsson cuts, some of my favs, and music from other artists that I have always grouped together with Johann.   I hope you will listen to this mix and also go seek out Johannsson's awesome library of music that is keeping his memory alive in this world.       Johann Johannsson Complete on Spotify     T R A C K L I S T : 00:00    Johann Johannsson - The Sun's Gone Dim and The Sky's Turned Black 05:33    Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No. 3 Lento(exerpt) 08:30    Johann Johannsson - Flight from the City 14:35    Max Richter - On The Nature Of Daylight 20:43    Johann Johannsson - Kangaru 23:22    Craig Armstrong - Choral Ending 25:54    Just a Human - Johann 28:15    Olafur Arnalds - Öldurót 32:22    Clint Mansell - Together We Will Live Forever 37:05    Johann Johannsson - IBM 1403 Printer 44:05    Christopher Spelman - The Final Journey 51:27    Hildur Gudnadottir - Unveiled 54:48    Olafur Arnalds - Dalur 58:31    lowlight - Memories of JJ 62:07    end
