You're either part of the solution, or you're part of the problem”. We're back after a four month hiatus to bring you our list of the top 100 albums of 2023. Is it, at bare minimum, a month and a half late? Yes. By "we" do we mean "just Brad because Sean wouldn't want any part of this nonsense"? Yes again. But whatever, we're doing it anyway. It has been another great year for music, which at this point should not be shocking. We've got incredible team-ups galore, big names from the past making a mark in the present, new names bursting on to the scene, everything and the kitchen sink albums, spoken word weirdness, hip-hop standard bearers still innovating, gloopy synths, the sounds of a haunted house, and above all else, a lot of very aggressive, noisy music. It was a hell of a year. So... enjoy? (We'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming... eventually. Probably soon. We are still reeling from the Detroit Lions losing the NFC Championship game, so it might be a while) Artists Discussed (In Alphabetical Order): 2FAC, Aaron Dilloway, Aho Ssan, Altin Gun, Ana Frango Elétrico, Armand Hammer, Bandler Ching, BBBBBBB, Bill Orcutt, Billy Woods & Kenny Segal, Bounaly, Brass Riot, Bully, Caterina Barbieri, Charif Megarbane, Colin Stetson, Dead Times, Deena Abdelwahed, Disclosure, Divide and Dissolve, DJ Finale, DJ Girl, DJ Smiley Bobby, EABS & Jaubi, El Michels Affair & Black Thought, Ellen Arkbro, Embarker, Emergency Group, Euglossine, Fever Ray, Fire Toolz, Forest Swords, Gazelle Twin, Gezan & Million Wish Collective, Great Falls, Guilty Simpson & Uncommon NASA, Hitech, Hourloupe, Hyphyskazerbox, ICECOLDBISHOP, Jana Winderen, Janelle Monáe, Jlin, JPEGmafia & Danny Brown, Judgitzu, Karen y los Remedios, Katarsi, KEN Mode, Kool Keith & Real Bad Man, Kouns and Weaver, Larry Wish, Lauren Bousfield, Loraine James, Lost Girls, Lunch Money Life, Madlib, Meyhem Lauren, & DJ Muggs, Mallwalker, Marina Herlop, Matmos, MC Yallah, Mendoza Hoff Revels, MIKE, Mike Nigro, Model/Actriz, Mukqs, M-Ziq, Natalia Beylis & Eimear Reidy, Neupink, Novatron, Nuovo Testamento, Oozing Wound, OrangeTone, Organized Cream, Ortopedia Tecnica, Osees, Paavoharju, Physique, PoiL/Ueda, Private Lives, RP Boo, Screaming Females, Shit And Shine, Sightless Pit, Silver Apples & Makoto Kawabata, Sunik Kim, Sweeping Promises, TALSounds, Tee Vee Repairman, Teeth of the Sea, That Mexican OT, The Gate, The HIRS Collective, Tim Hecker, Tinashe, Tzusing, Victoria Monet, Vorsicht Kinder, Wound Man, Zoh Amba/Chris Corsano/Bill Orcutt --- Website: www.queenvenerator.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queenvenerator/ Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/queenvenerator.bsky.social

I made it through a year of highs and lows in the City of Angels! So lets fire up the Aphex Twin (@aphex-twin-official) and contemplate how far we've all made it in the last 12. It's crazy to think in that time I've managed to live in Los Feliz, Venice Beach, Westwood, Koreatown and Silverlake (and everywhere in between and beyond, right?). Plus, I've done a wide assortment of gigs in the process -- background acting, videography, podcasting, fresh salad seller, fine dining server and more. We start with some clips from a Werner Herzog doc about crashing in the jungle. And I describe one particular post-club tableau, following an epic drum n' bass night with DJ Goldie at the helm (@metalheadz). Plus we'll take you with us down to a public #art show breathing new life into a concrete spaceship-looking sculpture that never really worked properly. The six-story, 60-ton Triforium by artist Joseph Young was supposed to exude synchronicity through 1,494 multi-coloured glass prisms. But symbolic of DTLA itself, its futuristic dreams came smack up against the challenges of reality. Luckily the Triforium Project captivated Los Angeles by finding workarounds to get the thing up and running again for a series of super cool shows. 1:26:35 - Original performances created specifically for the public art show by: $3.33 (@thr33thirtythr33) with "Celestial Spam" Ben Babbitt (@benbabbitt) with "The Pull of the Swerve" And Ben Browning (@benbrowning) of Cut Copy (@cutcopy) with "Light Minded People" Music: Nympho (@nymphoofficial), Forest Swords (@forestswords), Fred V & Grafix (@fredvgrafix), KOAN Sound (@koan-sound), Kolsch (@kolsch), Mefjus (@mefjus), MorMor (@mormor_music), Orbital (@orbital-4), Polo & Pan (@polo-pan), Objekt (keinobjekt), Oz (@co-lab-recordings-uk), Shimon (@shimon-audioporn), Benny L (@bennyldnb), Souls of Mischief (@soulsofmischief), N'to (@ntonto), Worakls (@worakls), 16 Bit Lolitas (@16bitlolitas), Camp Lo (@camploofficial) 44:02 - Rad Reviews of: Weather McNabb (@user-75280168) and Post Death Soundtrack (@postdeathsoundtrack)

It's Christmas! so, this time, we're irking the Daily Mail readers by actually not doing much to do with Christmas at all (Let's call it a Winterval special just to annoy them even more!). It's our end of the year best of 2018 spectacular! We'll be counting down our favourite 30 songs of the year, plus discussing our favourite gigs of the year and also music we've discovered this year which didn't come out in 2018. To explain how the voting works, we each picked our 10 favourite songs of the year, then for each list we each ranked them 1-10 giving 10 points to our favourite and 1 to the one we liked least on each list. we also had a bonus point we could assign to one song on either of the other people's lists (So Colin could only assign the bonus point to a song on either Tracey or Ian's list). Colin's wife then added all the points up and we didn't find out the order until we were recording, so all the reactions you'll hear are genuine. Now admittedly, we are a little bit brutal to some of the songs on the list, but please remember that to be in the episode they have to have been in one of our top tens of the year! Bands featured in this episode include Anaal Nathrakh, АИГЕЛ, The Atlas Moth, Author & Punisher, Big Russian Boss, Brooke Bentham, Church Of The Cosmic Skull, Clever Girl, The Common Cold, Corrosion Of Conformity, Dresden Dolls, Eels, Brian Eno/Kevin Shields, Epic45, Failure, Forest Swords, Four Stroke Baron, Gene, Ghost, Grouper, Half Man Half Biscuit, Ho99o9, Khruangbin, Laibach, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Metric, Malcolm Middleton, Mogwai, Neurosis, Pale Waves, Peaness, Josh T. Pearson, The Prodigy, Nathan Salsburg, Soccer Mommy, Stars Of The Lid, Superorganism, These Are End Times, Tropical Fuck Storm, Ulrika Spacek, Young Scum, and Kamasi Washington. Urban landscapes, desolate and crowded at the same time, as can happen only at nighttime. Small dark alleys between the skyscrapers of a modern metropolis. The wet asphalt with a slight but steady rain. The silence broken only by the sirens of the ambulances and the chatter of groups of drunk guys. Here is the ideal setting for an epic, experimental at times futuristic and industrial sound. This is the sound of Odd Shapes, Danish beats-oriented artist, guest of the 7° episode of THE TAPE podcast. The mixtape starts in an epic "key" (with Forest Swords and Holy Other). Epic theme that is never abandoned for the whole mix but, thanks to Four Tet, Burial, Oneohtrix Point Never, Illum Sphere, assumes ambient, industrial and futuristic variations that alternate between them and find a meeting point in the Odd Shapes' songs (Nightfall, Inferior - Odd Shapes Remix). Tracklist: 01 Forest Swords - Friend, You Will Never Learn [Tri Angle Records] 02 Holy Other - Tense Past [Tri Angle Records] 03 DyE - Fantasy [Tigersushi Records] 04 Odd Shapes - Nightfall [Polaron Collective] 05 FKA Twigs - Papi Pacify [Young Turks Records] 06 Borealis - Nightfall (Ben Lukas Boysen Remix) [Origami Sound] 07 Lorn - Weigh Me Down (Illum Sphere Remix) [NinjaTune] 08 Four Tet - Parallel Jalebi [Text Records] 09 Oneohtrix Point Never - Zebra [Warp Records] 10 Blak Nite - MoNY [Dark Clover Records] 11 Burial - Come Down to Us [Hyperdub Records] 12 Oneohtrix Point Never - Chrome Country [Warp Records] 13 NuGravity - Don't Make Me Fly, Don't Make Me Cry [Plastik Sound] 14 Amphior - Inferior (Odd Shapes Remix) [Unreleased] 15 Nocow - Mist [Origami Sound] 16 Jon Hopkins - Abandon Window [Domino Records] ODD SHAPES Denmark based Odd Shapes released his debut EP through Dark Clover Records in 2012. Since then he has been doing a lot of single tracks and remixes on various labels. In his productions the fine blend of haunting details and, at times uplifting, evocative compositions comes in contrast with futuristic nuances of beats-oriented music. Some Important Events: - A Strangely Isolated Place recently put out a beautiful double vinyl whereon Echaskech remixes my track "Desert Plant" - Origami Sound is releasing my 2nd EP "Intense Appreciation" on 14.02 2014. There will be released a couple of teaser videos up till the date on my website oddshapes.net which is under construction at the moment. - Also I just started a project called 'Lattice' with a fellow producer from Denmark. It's a house/techno-thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTgrgShTsYc).
