Normally an elusive creature, The Mole can usually be found behind a DJ booth during the wee smoky hours in the midst of long, drawn-out sets. Known for his love of sonic collage and musical noodling, he boasts a long and colourful list of releases for labels like Perlon, Ostgut Ton, Slices of Life, Circus Company, Haunt, Musique Risquée, New Kanada, Internasjonal and longtime home Wagon Repair. "Fun story. My old friend Lex recorded this mix at a party here in Victoria, on a whale watching boat, with his minidisc, in 97! He's been telling me about the recording for years. Only now that I've moved back to this lovely island have I had the chance to hear the mix. Time warp. I often feel like I having conversations with a younger me. This is a nice one. =)" @moleofsoul

In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience. Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. Business As Usual: May Tracklisting 01. Born and raised in San Francisco, Dave Aju grew up inspired by the likes of KRS One, The Pharcyde, Moodyman and Cajmere. Such influences have led him on a pursuit through sound and exploration: this has been reflected in his musical output over the past thirteen years. In this time he has formed a close relationship with French record label Circus Company and has since released three full length LP's under their blessing. His early roots lie in jazz and his musical background features drums and piano, such knowledge has led him to a sound which aligns with the more soulful edges of deep house which finds itself more relevant as a genre than ever before.
Shock World Service 059 Old Acquaintance Be Forgot by Cian Ó Cíobháin 24/12/2014 Galway, Ireland 1. Mica Levi - Lonely Void Mica Levi's soundtrack for Jonathan Glazer's film ‘Under The Skin' (based on Michel Faber's novel) was, without doubt, the oddest yet most beguiling music I heard all year. I had listened to the soundtrack loads before I finally got to see the movie. Listening to the music out of context had made an impression, finally hearing it as I viewed the film almost made me want to start a cult. 2. Kode9 & The Spaceape - Autumn Has Come The ‘Killing EP' was the last release from Hyperdub vocalist-poet-MC Stephen Samuel Gordon AKA The Spaceape before his untimely demise in the autumn. His parting words “I must learn to dance with life again while autumn is still here” are particularly heartbreaking considering he passed away soon after the recording was made. 3. Visonia & Dopplereffekt - Die Reisen This track should be employed by music teachers in classes to illustrate ‘how to write a bass arpeggio'. A big thanks to Laura O' Connell for putting me onto this one. Released on Last Known Trajectory in January, this should still sound fresh in decades to come. 4. Clark - Snowbird Chris Clark has been a formidable presence on the legendary Warp label for over a decade now. His eponymously titled 2014 LP is rumoured to be his last. If there is any substance to these rumours, it is safe to acknowledge that he refused to go out with a whimper with possibly his most coherent LP to date. 5. Roberto Clementi - Agile The Italian's debut LP for Soma - 'N Lights' - took a slightly organic and dubby approach to electronic music. This one was the diamond in the rough: an ethereal and glistening piece of electronica that has shades of Burial or The Cyclist about it. 6. Actress - Gaze His latest LP ‘Ghettoville' may not be up there with his finest work, but it did bestow upon the world this gorgeous slice of dreamy house. 7. JAW, Philip Wolgast & Benito W - Papersand Is JAW the new Robert Owens? The frontman of electronic French act dOP's voice can be heard lighting up many a house tracks these days. I've never really been a fan of Robert Owens, bar a handful of tracks, though I've slowly began to warm to JAW. However, something about this collaboration - the production and the wistful vocal - made it sounds like a more melancholic take on what Ali Love & Hot Natured have been getting up to. One to slow dance to at the end of a lost weekend. From the ‘Midtown EP' on Circus Company. 8. To Rococo Rot - Baritone Veterans of the German electro-acoustic scene released their eighth studio LP ‘Instrument' this year which included this track, redolent of classic mid-90s Tortoise. 9. Fhloston Paradigm - Never Defeated (feat. Rachel Claudio) King Britt - under his Fhloston Paradigm guise - produced one of the most memorable LPs of the year in ‘The Phoenix' and this collaboration with Rachel Claudio is the kind of gritty soul I subscribe to. 10. Ariel Pink - Lipstick Ariel Pink's new LP ‘Pom Pom' is a riot of ideas. Like an enterprising magpie, he swoops over many different genres and eras and steals the best parts to create a new and vibrant love letter to both AM & FM bubblegum pop. 11. Aphex Twin - PAPAT4 [155] [pineal mix] A period of two weeks listening to Aphex Twin's first LP in 13 years confirmed this and the ‘minipops' single to be my personal highlights. Some of us dream of becoming presidents, doctors, video game beta testers or restaurant critics. But who dreams of having elephants in his backyard? Dave Willacker, that's who. He also dreamt of bring the Trapeze to Cincinnati, while on vacation with his wife to DC. He succeeded in doing that and has thus brought the dream of flying on the trapeze to any Cincinnatian with $55 bucks in their pocket. We love Dave. Here's the video.

This saturday on the show it's episode #350, and we're here to celebrate! Ronin & Nesta invite creative mastermind trio, Wareika, taking control of the decks. Always maintaining intellect depth and dynamism in their compositions, their productions are highly regarded, including albums, singles and remixes on labels like Visionquest, Perlon, Circus Company and Eskimo; all ranging from Balearic to deep Techno, jazzy House sounds and from Balkan-Jazz to dubby riddims. There are many more horizons, hidden valleys and unclimbed peaks to conquer in music: tune in to the show and follow the sound of Wareika.
Track List: 01.Wareika_Wternal (Visionquest) 02.Wareika_Five Edges (Visionquest) 03.Jamie Jones - Change (Hottrax) 04.Les Fils du Calvaire - Femme d'Affaires - dop Rmx (Circus Company) 05.Silky Raven - Caterpillars & Birds (Connaisseur Recordings) 06.Tom Trago & Young Marco & Awanto 3 - Physical Thrill - Genius of Time Rmx (Studio Soulrock) 07.FaltyDL - Straight & Arrow - Four Tet Rmx (Ninja Tune) 08.Karocel - It_s me - Wareika Rmx (Freude am Tanzen) 09.Douglas Greed - Sociopathic (Freude am tanzen) 10.Skatebard - The bells of mist_ (Snuff Track 09) 11.Darling Farah - Aaangel - Darling Farah's Edit (Civil Music) Biography: Wareika started as a creative project in summer 2007. Actually school friends Jakob Seidensticker and Henrik Raabe had started a band called "The Havana Boys" some years ago and where kind of a house-band for the famous Mojo Club in Hamburg. While playing another gig in the holy halls Florian Schirmacher, already famous with projects like "Glowing Glisses", jumped the stage and just hit it. And so Wareika took off. The very first release is called "Men Village" (2008 Connaisseur Rec) and demonstrates the deep influence of Jazz music and wobbly dub-sounds that all three musicians are heavily into. Definitely no need to mention King Tubby or Sun Ra. It also showcases the musical education that all three artists enjoyed from an early age on. Henrik Raabe studied guitar, drums and piano, Florian was educated in singing and the piano, while Jakob can master a fretless bass and plays all kinds of percussions. Besides this classical and high level education Jakob and Florian are also very much into djing and they know their club-roots and a lot about Techno, House and all sorts of contemporary club music. So the high versatility of styles in their music takes no wonder. Their productions including, three albums, several single releases and more than a dozen high-profile remixes on different labels like Tartelet, Perlon, Circus Company, Future Classics, Eskimo and many others are ranging from Balearic to deep Techno, jazzy House sounds and from Balkan-Jazz to dubby riddims. Wareika are always maintaining their smart intellect, depth and dynamism in all compositions. It ́s a bright and dazzling kaleidoscope of melodies and polyrhythmic or four to the floor beats that is entirely unique in the electronic worldwide circuit and you can may be label their music with the term Jazz-Not-Jazz or even better Techno-No-Techno. Whatever you may call it, it ́s deep and atmospheric but it never misses the groove! When it comes down to live gigs the trio is very keen on defining a quality and outstanding sound and always play 100% live. Definitely no computers on stage! Due to the fact that they are playing mainly in Club venues they beef up their sounds. And even though they are definitely not your average club heads band, they still get the masses raving and dancing to their sets that can endure up to 3 hours... Jakob Seidensticker (MPC arrangements, effects, mixing) Florian Schirmacher (vocals, keyboards and percussions) and Henrik Raabe (guitar, percussions and vocals) are playing in venues all around the world from London to St. Petersburg, from Miami to Oslo and from Tokyo to Brazil. Itʼs always thrilling to see Wareika on stage as Techno-marries-Jazz improvisers, while they are recreating their recorded masterpieces like „Kingʼs Child“ (2009 Motivbank) or „Harmonie Park“ (2010 Perlon) into something completely new, or just improvise and create things unheard so far. Many of these stage-born songs are now captured on vinyl and CD, forming their fourth full-length album „Wternal“. It will be out on Visionquest in October 2013.
When there are songs by artists such as Leafcutter, Nicolas Jaar, Four Tet, Afterhours, Olafur Arnalds (just to name a few) in the same mix, to mention the undisputed quality of each individual track is unnecessary. But when these songs are mixed together by an artist like Michael Lovisa, master in creating unique moods (listen to believe his last remix of The Last Day by Moby, inside the mix….ah, you can download it for free: https://soundcloud.com/michaellovisa/moby-the-last-day-michael ), where acoustic instruments, electronic beats and vocals (like Grow Up With Me by musician poet Keaton Henson) alternate with moments of silence capable of enhancing the simple melodies, there would be much to say and to weave praises. But, after listening to it, it's easy to be speechless, to enjoy that last moment of silence before returning to the chaotic and noisy reality. However, something simple and commonplace is worth to say: close your eyes, press play, turn up the volume and relax .... bon voyage! TRACKLIST: 01 Leafcutter John - 42 [Planet Mu] 02 Verdena - Apice [Black Out/Universal] 03 Nicolas Jaar - Balance her in between your eyes [Circus Company] 04 The xx - Angels (Four Tet remix) [Young Turks] 05 Moby - The last day (Michael Lovisa remix) [Self-released] 06 Afterhours - Simbiosi [Mescal] 07 Finn. - Dew [Erased Tapes] 08 Glen Hansard - Leave [Sony/Columbia] 09 Keaton Henson - Grow up with me [Unreleased, Last.fm session] 10 Cloud Boat - Bastion [Apollo] 11 Olafur Arnalds - Til enda [Erased Tapes] 12 Blixa Bargeld & Teho Teardo - Come up and see me [Specula Records] 13 Mogwai - Sine wave [Matador] MICHAEL LOVISA Michael Lovisa, born in 1987, is an italian producer/multi-instrumentalist who likes to experiment creating delicate and soft moments with simple melodies mixing acoustic instruments, electronic sounds and different genres.

Also für EUCH! habt Spass dabei! An hour of music from Nicolas Jaar, James Blake, How To Dress Well, Wolfgang Voigt and many more...
