This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that has the power to give revenue teams a scientific approach to revenue and stop flying in the dark. My guest is Toni Hohlbein, Co-founder and CEO of Growthblocks. Toni has spent the last decade growing B2B SaaS startups successfully as a CRO, leading to two exits. He discovered that revenue planning and execution was fundamentally broken. The old approach is finance-heavy and is skipping over a ton of important details CROs need to know to hit their revenue targets. So he started working on a solution and created an operating model that help the business he was working for hit target 12 quarters in a row. He learned that other startups had the same problem, which sparked the idea to create Growblocks together with his cofounders Olafur & Andrew. The mission: help organizations unlock their revenue potential. And this inspired me, and hence I invited Toni to my podcast. We explore what's broken in the way businesses run revenue operations. Toni shares his vision of how to solve this - based on an approach that delivered remarkable results at his previous company - helping them grow from €10 to €50 million in 12 straight quarters. He shares the big lessons learned in taking his startup from idea to ready for primetime and outlines what ingredients have been fundamental to get right from the start. Last but not least, he shares what he's specifically steering for to create a SaaS business people will start talking about and keep talking about. Here's one of his quotes We are not a forecasting tool that tells you which number you're going to hit in q1. We're helping you to figure out what number you are gonna hit at the end of the year. What are the long-term revenue goals you want to achieve? Then you start executing. And what you then very quickly see is that some part of the engine is going to veer off course. Otherwise, you would have probably seen this in the post-mortem that you have in your quarterly business review in three and a half months from now. We ping you if something is off. We give you a root cause analysis of why it is off. And then you can fix it. And that is a very nice, straightforward, you could even say, agile cycle that we are enabling organizations to do in real-time instead of having quarterly business reviews to then tweak something. During this interview, you will learn four things: How to go about challenging the status quo in a mature market How changing one word in your positioning can change everything for the traction you experience How to empower your champions to drive the buying process from the inside The mistakes many startups make that put their buyers in a disagreeing spiral, instead of a nodding spiral How to spark word-of-mouth if you're selling big enterprise SaaS tools For more information about the guest from this week: Toni Hohlbein Website Growthblocks Subscribe to the Daily SaaS Reflection Get my free, 1 min daily reflection on shaping a B2B SaaS business no one can ignore.

Set in the decades between the two World Wars, the captivating story of one man who banishes himself to a solitary life in the Arctic Circle, and is saved by good friends, a loyal dog, and a surprise visit that changes everything. In 1916, Sven Ormson leaves Stockholm to seek adventure in Svalbard, an Arctic archipelago where darkness reigns four months of the year, where he might witness the splendor of the Northern Lights one night or be attacked by a polar bear the next. After a devastating accident while digging for coal, Sven heads north again and ends up on an uninhabited fjord living in a hut he builds, alone except for the company of a loyal dog, testing himself against the elements. Years into his routine isolation, the arrival of an unlikely visitor sparks a chain of events that brings Sven into a family of fellow castoffs and determines the course of the rest of his life. Inspired by a real life character and written with wry humour, in prose as beautiful as the stark landscape it evokes, The Memoirs of Stockholm Sven is a testament to the strength of human bonds, reminding us that even in the most inhospitable conditions, we are not beyond the reach of love.
The award-winning Danish–Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson is renowned for his work with sculptures, photography and installation art which explores issues around perception, climate and public response. For the past months he’s been working on his next project called “Life”, at the Fondation Beyeler in Switzerland this April and has granted In The Studio special access to follow his creative process. Olafur is on a mission to ensure that he doesn’t pre-empt his audience’s response to the final work- and that includes not releasing much detail about the project beforehand. But, as reporter Neil McCarthy finds out, it involves a major reconfiguration of the gallery – including removing the famous full-length gallery windows and flooding it with water from the outside lily pond. Reporter Neil McCarthy talks to Olafur at different stages in the execution of the work and also hears from the gallery’s Director Sam Keller about the technical challenges which will need to be overcome to create a work which poses many questions about the nature of space and environment – and which stays watertight!

The Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson is celebrated for his playful and tactile works, from shining suns to melting ice installations. Yet with so many galleries closed in lockdown, he's turning his attention to augmented reality. It's now possible to download the imagination of the environmental artist to a street near you, via an app. But is it as good as the real thing? Reporter Anna Bailey pressed download and spoke to Olafur to find out. Public art has long been the preserve of men but feminist artists Nikki Luna from the Philippines and Bahia Shehab in Egypt challenge the patriarchy, by taking up space on the street and online. Nikki Luna's audio-visual installations confront gender-based violence with the voices of marginalised women, while Bahia Shehab's street art foregrounds the female form and addresses consent. Mexican-American portrait artist Aliza Nisenbaum gives us a glimpse of the private moments behind public service. She talks to Nawal about why her latest project honours healthcare workers at the frontline of the battle against coronavirus. Plus, we hear how a group of artists have been inspired to create a giant painting that highlights growing insecurity and political instability in Nigeria. Earlier this week, Adrianne and I watched the first episode of the new season of Abstract on the Netflix . For those of you who haven't seen it, Abstract is a fantastic show about art and design. It follows roughly the same format as something like Chef's Table — which is also an excellent show — where each episode profiles a specific artist or designer. Last season included Tinker Hatfield, Paula Scher, and Platon among others and this season starts out with someone who I've never heard of by name though I have seen his work. Olafur Eliasson is an artist and architect whose large scale works are focused and really dependent on the user or viewer's experience of them. Many of his works center around light — specifically, the effects and manipulation of light. For example, one of his earlier pieces is called “Beauty” and it was his attempt to create a rainbow by lighting a gentle waterfall of very fine mist. The effect was such that no two people experience exactly the same rainbow, since the color and intensity are based entirely on your viewing angle relative to the mist. “This is a space totally dependent on you being there,” Olafur says. “When you leave the exhibition, and there's no-one in the room, there's also no art.” This idea is really core to Olafur's art — the Why of his art, if you will. Each piece he makes is a sort of challenge. As he puts it, “do I trust my own eyes and my own capacity to engage in the world?” His work is completely dependent on the spectator. It's a collaboration –maybe even a conversation – between him as the artist and us as the viewer. Even his episode of Abstract is a collaboration, beginning with Olafur breaking the fourth wall and speaking directly to the camera — to us — as he presents the conditions of our collaboration. Contemporary artist Olafur Eliasson uses light and space in the way traditional painters use pigment and canvas. The public space becomes his painterly surface and nontraditional materials, ranging from water, fans, air currents, color dye, fog, ice and moss, become his tools for mark-making. Join our hosts as they passionately debate the legitimacy and value of his practice.

“Are you a dancer” is the question that Alistair Spalding gets asked the most. Understandably so, as he runs London’s most successful and internationally renowned dance theatre – Sadler's Wells. In this week's Music Matters Tom Service visits Reykjavik to ask whether Iceland is the most musical country in the world? With a population of just 350,000 Iceland still boasts multi-million-selling pop acts like Sigur Ros and Bjork, a world class orchestra, Oscar-winning composers, countless music festivals as well as a vibrant and world renowned contemporary music scene. And all these different genres seem to intertwine with each other effortlessly - so Tom is in Reykjavik to discover what the country's musical secret is. He drops into the Dark Music Days festival, an annual festival of new music which takes place in the darkest period of winter, to ask composers and musicians why their new music scene is the envy of the world. One of their most successful artists is the award winning multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Olafur Arnalds. Olafur blends classical, pop and electonica and the result is sell-out tours - Tom meets him at his Reykjavik studio to find out how he defines his music and why he sees the heart of Iceland's music not in its nature, but in its people. Aside from the country's professional scene, amateur music making is also thriving - particularly in choirs. Tom meets the Karlakórinn Esja a young, local male-voice choir who meet every Wednesday night to sing together - they tell Tom why being in a choir is something Icelanders need to do. And he learns about the folk history behind Icelanders' love of singing from the ancient Rimur. And composers and experts talk about the importance of landscape in Icelandic music - from the early 20th-century composer Jon Leifs to Anna Thorvaldsdottir, one of the country's acclaimed young composers. Is Icelandic music really all about nature or is it all just a marketing scam?
All the way from the volcanic island of Iceland, Sweden has been gifted with someone that is truly one of a kind. Olafur sat down with us to talk about the man outside of work, the crazy programming adventures he gets into, and why he's super excited to share some of that knowledge in the future.
After the ¨Fete de la Musique¨ nothing better then great tracks to relax and start your ¨Summer in Paris¨ in the ¨Garden¨ with Llorca, Chet Faker, Olafur, Akabu, The Weeknd, Ceu, Jacqueline Boyer, Art of Tones, Nouvelle Vague, Franck Ocean and more.

When there are songs by artists such as Leafcutter, Nicolas Jaar, Four Tet, Afterhours, Olafur Arnalds (just to name a few) in the same mix, to mention the undisputed quality of each individual track is unnecessary. But when these songs are mixed together by an artist like Michael Lovisa, master in creating unique moods (listen to believe his last remix of The Last Day by Moby, inside the mix….ah, you can download it for free: https://soundcloud.com/michaellovisa/moby-the-last-day-michael ), where acoustic instruments, electronic beats and vocals (like Grow Up With Me by musician poet Keaton Henson) alternate with moments of silence capable of enhancing the simple melodies, there would be much to say and to weave praises. But, after listening to it, it's easy to be speechless, to enjoy that last moment of silence before returning to the chaotic and noisy reality. However, something simple and commonplace is worth to say: close your eyes, press play, turn up the volume and relax .... bon voyage!
