In the 150th episode of the Coffee with Karen podcast, Karen Roberts interviews Amy Shearer, a former fashion retail executive turned emotional wellness facilitator and embodiment coach. The episode, titled "From Depleted to Empowered: Three Ways that she Made Her Shift," explores Amy's journey from the corporate world to becoming a coach and mentor, as well as the benefits of breathwork and the importance of being connected with oneself. Amy shares a moment of realization during a vacation in Kauai, where she felt disconnected and depressed. This moment of vulnerability helped her understand the root cause of her physical ailments, chronic stress, and disconnection, and discover the importance of taking charge of her own desires and needs. Karen and Amy discuss how our bodies communicate with us and how chronic stress can impact our lives, including our relationships. They also discuss the importance of self-care, vulnerability, and personal growth. The conversation then shifts to the benefits of breathwork and how it can help release emotions and energy that the body stores. The speaker explains how breathwork can shift states of consciousness and help clear out negative emotions, leading to a sense of relaxation and relief. The podcast touches on how the breath work can be an emotional experience, releasing sadness or anger, and how people avoid doing it because they want instant results. They also discuss the different types of breathwork, including the three-part conscious connected breath, which is often used by shamans in healing ceremonies. The speaker shares her experiences with the mindset, emotional, and somatic work, which has allowed her to be more compassionate with herself. She emphasizes the importance of recognizing one's emotions, expressing them compassionately, and having conversations that value relationships. Through nervous system regulation and learning about emotions, one can be aware of what is triggering them and what needs to be healed. The speaker highlights the power of breathwork, meditative movement, walking meditation, and expressing emotions through movement to heal relationships and achieve empowerment. The episode also highlights the importance of being connected with oneself and the role of spirituality in achieving that connection. The speaker argues that the body is a crucial component of spirituality and that it is essential to honor and work with it. They share their personal experience of feeling disconnected from their body and how breathwork helped them to achieve a deeper spiritual connection. The conversation concludes with a discussion of the societal shift towards mental health and spirituality, bringing together all aspects of health for a more holistic approach. The episode emphasizes the importance of understanding our own needs and values to avoid burnout and live a fulfilling life. Overall, this episode offers a thoughtful reflection on the importance of being connected with oneself and the role of spirituality in achieving that connection. The episode provides a practical approach to help individuals overcome people-pleasing tendencies and achieve a more fulfilling life. The episode is perfect for anyone who is feeling stressed, disconnected, or out of alignment with their desires and needs, and would be valuable to anyone looking to deepen their spiritual connection or seeking guidance on overcoming burnout.
