Richard's life-long battle with alcoholism was abated for nearly two decades in AA. But he let up on his Program and ultimately relapsed on "thimbles" of moonshine in a Mississippi bar. His drinking resumed and he quickly found himself back in the same alcoholic quagmire that AA had extricated him from years earlier. Depleted physically, mentally, and emotionally, Richard found himself at the jumping off point. He was finally ready to accept help from two sober sisters and his mother, all of whom encouraged him to go s to AA. As the inevitability of an alcoholic death loomed large, Richard dragged himself back into the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous a little over two years ago. But getting sober this time was further complicated by serious pulmonary disease for which he uses an oxygen concentrator to breathe. As he awaits the possibility of a lung transplant, Richard has become the very model of courage in the face of adversity. His reliable service work for the AA club we both attend has endeared him to all of its attendees and has made him a ready resource of information about the club and AA in general.   Richard's willingness to share his remarkable story of battling pulmonary attacks and alcoholism simultaneously shines a bright light on the importance of meetings to support each other in sickness and in health. I feel you will find much to be inspired about in Richard's story. I invite you to sit back and enjoy another awesome episode of AA Recovery Interviews with my AA friend and brother, Richard B. If you've enjoyed my AA Recovery Interviews series, have a listen to “Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism”. This is the word-for-word, cover-to-cover reading of the First Edition of the Big Book, published in 1939. It's a comfortable, meaningful, and engaging way to listen to the Big Book anytime, anyplace. Have a free listen at Audible, Apple Books, or Amazon.  I also invite you to check out my latest audio book, Lost Stories of the Big Book, 30 Original Stories Missing from the 3rd and 4th Editions of Alcoholics Anonymous. It's an engaging audiobook I narrated to bring these stories to life for AA members who've never seen them. These timeless testimonials were originally cut to make room for newer stories in the 3rd and 4th Editions. But their vitally important messages of hope are as meaningful today as when they were first published. Many listeners will hear these stories for the first time. Lost Stories of the Big Book is available on Audible, Amazon, and Apple Books. It's also available as a Kindle book and in Paperback from Amazon if you'd like to read along with the audio.

Hello lovelies! Thanks for listening (and reading!)"Are you moving the goal post?"I heard this on a podcast episode a few years back and it made me think, "am I doing this?".And the answer is a resounding yes "all day every day!".As a high achieving woman and neurodivergent we can really get so focused on "what's next?", that we don't give ourselves a pat on the back for what we 'have' accomplished and all that we 'have' already done. And then other times I'll get so stressed out about not accomplishing a goal in a certain amount of time or by a deadline date when I think "who created this deadline date in the first place?".When the answer is "me, I created this deadline" then I think "well, that means that I can move it then?".Let's not forget in all of the hustle and bustle of life and goals on what we have already accomplished and all that we 'have' already done. And with this, let's give ourselves a pat on the back.I hope you enjoy this episode.

Hey humans, we're continuing our #WorkWell series, all about mental health in the workplace. In this episode, we're getting real about the difference between just being tired and being truly, deeply depleted.  I know that feeling because I was just there myself. After we recorded our last episode on burnout, I felt almost out of my body, completely depleted and neurologically dysregulated. The only thing that could help was true rest and disconnection. So for this week, I have an exercise for you. It's an ask to take just five minutes every day to journal and really tune in to how you're feeling. Ask yourself: Do you feel recharged after a break? What do you actually enjoy right now? How often are you feeling irritable or numb? The goal isn't to fix it immediately, but just to recognize where you are. It's about figuring out if you're just tired, or if you've crossed over into depletion. Take this week to just check in with yourself.  I hope you'll join me on this journey to work well. With light and love, we'll see you soon. Stacie More episodes at StacieBaird.com.

This is so true. So a good giveaway to see if you're feeling disingenuous is if you're in fact you're saying no to yourself and if the answer is yes then you gotta reevaluate what you're doing because ‘self-care is not self-ish'. And another great quote by Iyanla Vanzant is “what's in our cups is for us, what's overflowing (in the saucer) is for everyone else”. ~~~~~~~~~~If this or any of my podcast episodes have been of value to you, please subscribe/follow and if you would be so kind as to rate me a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review? >>>To do a review on: Apple>>> 1. In the first episode of our "Mental Health at Work" series, my colleague Jenn Mason and I tackled the critical distinction between being tired and being truly depleted. We start by defining burnout as work-related exhaustion that happens over time, while compassion fatigue comes from the emotional toll of over-identifying with the suffering of others. We contend as well, though, that depletion is a much deeper state that impacts your core motivation and ability to connect, going far beyond simple exhaustion. Jenn and I were candid about how leaders, even us, in our own trauma-informed mental health organization—often miss the signs of depletion in ourselves and our teams because the culture rewards "powering through". We also explore the invisible burdens and emotional labor that are so inherent in leadership roles. We believe that a human-centered approach requires building in practices for replenishment. We shared some of our own personal strategies, from recognizing physical stress signals in our bodies to taking small "pit stops" during the day. I also talked about how I started my "Freedom Fridays" (which I've talked about in previous episodes) to build in recovery time before our emotionally-demanding town hall meetings. Ultimately, we want leaders to understand that they must model these healthy behaviors to create psychological safety for their teams. By prioritizing recovery just as much as we prioritize performance, we can proactively address the root causes of depletion before they lead to bigger problems like disengagement and turnover. We're back with another episode of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents! An under-strength East Fife side made the camel trek north to Peterhead on Saturday but their new league campaign got off to an inauspicious start as they went down to a 4-1 defeat, in a game with very few positives to take from it. Michael, Gordon, and Aaron delve into the main talking points coming out of the match and look at the big off the pitch stories down Bayview way this past week with the club's new website up and running, Michael McKenna's three-game suspension for betting, and the launch of a new share issue to raise some much needed funds. Plus with the first home game coming up, we chat with the man responsible for the new hospitality food at Bayview, Chris Hazelton from Balgowan Fine Foods.

Or Zones of Genius plural? This term came from the book 'The Big Leap' by Gay Hendricks. Some say it's our purpose and some even say it's our 'superpower'.The best way for me to describe it is that our Zones of Genius are our traits or things that we're naturally good at (it comes easy for us) and it's things or actions that energize us altogether. So for example, I'm good at planning gatherings but I don't absolutely love the tasks that go into it. This isn't my Zone of Genius because I don't love to do it and I don't feel that it's my purpose. Another way to figure this out is if you don't do any of your Zones of Genius, you feel 'empty' or 'off' or even 'down'.If I don't do at least one of the below every so often I won't feel good and I'll be down and out. It's interesting how we are taught and "groomed" (especially women) to look 'outward' for advice and to ask, ask, ask. And to not ever look inward and to follow our instincts and what our intuition is telling us. I'm not speaking about anything that's harming someone else...I have too much empathy for that and I would never preach that. This is for the sole reason of us following our intuition in life and that that is enough. We don't need to ask for permission or to ask for advice or to look outward. It's all within us and isn't it interesting that that's when we seek advice the most? If someone asks you "why are you doing this or that?" or "how come?" you can steal this answer from me which is..."Because I'm following my instincts" and if they keep asking you can follow-up with "My instincts are just that, they're mine and they won't make sense to you"....just like your instincts are yours and they won't make sense to me either". There are a lot misunderstandings around what the term DOR means. Often times when people first hear about DOR, they believe that that the "D" of DOR means "depleted" ovarian reserve. This is not true! To set the record straight, DOR means "decreased" ovarian reserve. The other thing that happens when the word "decreased" gets mixed up for "depleted," is that many people next assume that getting a DOR diagnosis means that they will need to use donor eggs in order to get pregnant. This is also not true! With DOR, you still have eggs, you just don't have as many eggs as you once did. In this episode, I'll be sharing more about DOR. At some point, every one with a uterus will go through it. I'll talk about when egg reserves tend to decline, what tests you can take to determine your egg reserve levels, what you can do to keep your eggs healthy, and when you might consider using donor eggs. Is the human microbiome an endangered species? Dr. Martin Blaser, author of "Missing Microbes: How the Overuse of Antibiotics Is Fueling Our Modern Plagues," has also been featured in a documentary, The Invisible Extinction, that explores the dire consequences of our depleted microbiomes. Antibiotic overuse, C-sections, lack of breast-feeding, ultra-processed food, lack of exposure to nature, and chlorinated water conspire to deplete our bodies of beneficial bacteria; these imbalances in intestinal flora have profound, far-reaching effects, not just on digestive disorders, but on immunity, metabolism, and brain function. Conditions like insulin resistance, obesity, Parkinson's Disease, depression and anxiety, and many more have been linked to microbiome deficits. What lessons do stool samples from indigenous peoples offer us? There may be a transgenerational effect of microbiome depletion. Dr. Blaser has gone so far as to advocate a Microbiome Vault to preserve our bacterial heritage. Are fecal transplants and poop pills the answer? “Vaginal seeding”? What role do high-fiber diets play? Are fermented foods beneficial? What about probiotics? Dr. Blaser describes measures we need to take now to recover our microbial diversity.
