The new research has been accepted for publication  in The Astrophysical Journal. "Our paper proves that interactions with the neighboring galaxies are responsible for the unusual brightness of early galaxies," lead author Anshu Gupta, an astrophysicist at Curtin University in Australia, told Live Science in an email. "The explosion of star formation triggered by the interactions could also explain the more massive nature of early galaxies." Astronomers discovered the bright gas clouds in data collected as part of JWST's Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey, which used three of the telescope's instruments to collect infrared images of galaxies before analyzing their spectra." 1835 UK

MOSEL Survey: Extremely weak outflows in EoR analogues at z=3-4 by Anshu Gupta et al. on Monday 28 November This paper presents deep K-band spectroscopic observations of galaxies at z=3-4 with composite photometric rest-frame Hb+[OIII] equivalent widths EW_0>600A, comparable to the EW of galaxies observed during the epoch of reionisation (EoR, z>6). The typical spectroscopic [OIII] EW_0 and stellar mass of our targets is ~ 700A and log(M_star/M_sun)=8.98. By stacking the [OIII] emission profiles, we find evidence of a weak broad component with F_broad/F_narrow ~ 0.2 and velocity width sigma_{broad} ~ 170 km/s. The strength and velocity width of the broad component does not change significantly with stellar mass and [OIII] EW_0 of the stacked sample. Assuming similar broad component profiles for [OIII] and Halpha emission, we estimate a mass loading factor ~0.2, similar to low stellar mass galaxies at z>1 even if the star formation rates of our sample is 10 times higher. We hypothesize that either the multi-phase nature of supernovae driven outflows or the suppression of winds in the extreme star-forming regime is responsible for the weak signature of outflows in the EoR analogues. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.13763v1

Philanthropy: defined as an act done for humanitarian purposes. However, it is also defined as a charitable donation to worthy causes on a large scale. This is where the NGO GOONJ comes to play its role, as a gap bridger between urban prosperity and rural poverty while shunning the idea of charity or donation. Anshu Gupta, also known as the “Clothing man” is an Indian social entrepreneur who established GOONJ, a non-governmental organisation based on the idea of utilizing the unused material of urban homes in the remote villages of India. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tbcy/support

As with most things in life that require some thought, before making a decision and taking action, it's often best to figure out the "why" behind the result. In this case, start with the "Why are we hiring a CISO" question. But then what? That's where things get interesting. Undoubtedly, the answer to "Why" sets the stage for the play that's about to be performed, but each scene is different — each rendition has a unique story — each production has a different set of cast members. All of these variances determine not only who you are looking for but the questions you ask the candidates presenting themselves as your next CISO.What are those questions, and who should ask them of the CISO candidate? Anshu Gupta not only talks about this but he's also written a document outlining what we are going to review — essentially the "why" behind his doing so as well.Ultimately, the interview process should quickly uncoverWhy they do what they do as a CISO and as a member of society; How they plan to build/expand a team that they can manage and lead; How they plan to help enable (not block) the business to reach its objective as it grows and its risk profile changesEnjoy!____________________________GuestAnshu GuptaOn LinkedIn | https://www.linkedin.com/in/anshuguptapmp/On Twitter | https://twitter.com/fromanshu____________________________ResourcesList of Questions: https://docs.google.com/document/u/2/d/1q9XVEf3LPDT8d3OwSzA3ExJmXGwlkhO4x1nYMVartqk/edit?usp=sharingLinkedIn thread that inspired this conversation: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6831341664334966784-FRRs/____________________________This Episode's SponsorsImperva: https://itspm.ag/imperva277117988HITRUST: https://itspm.ag/itsphitweb____________________________To see and hear more Redefining Security content on ITSPmagazine, visit:https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-securityAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?

Charity, is it virtue or vice? In its original form, Anshu Gupta has challenged the definition of charity to bring more dignity to those who are earning it rather than someone who is doing it. Explore the mind-bending conversation with this social entrepreneur. Anshu Gupta is an Indian social entrepreneur who founded Goonj, a non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Delhi.Gupta is an Ashoka fellow and was conferred with the “Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award” by Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship in 2012. He won the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2015. Rewriting many rules of the development sector Anshu made the masses his prime focus – not only as givers and receivers of material but also as the prime source of money, skills, and services. He also structured imaginative solutions with an urban surplus, to some basic but neglected needs outside the radar of the development sector and the civil society.Over the years as Goonj garnered major awards, including World Bank's Development Marketplace award and NASA's Launch award, Anshu also won recognition as an Ashoka and Schwab Fellow while he was also listed as one of India's top social entrepreneurs by Forbes Magazine and Fast Company. Now Anshu is focused on the global replication of his model to bridge the massive gap of social and economic inequities between urban prosperity and rural poverty. He speaks extensively on national and international forums to instigate urban and rural masses to engage more deeply with the issues faced by society.

Join us on this heartful conversation with these 2 incredibly inspiring icons as we explore their inner journeys along with some stories and insights from their incredible work at Goonj.     Goonj’s work over last 2 decades has been instrumental in strengthening the culture of giving in urban India and increasing sensitivity towards the dignity of the receiver, and to honor the collective intelligence already present in rural communities. Further, at every disaster - like floods, or the pandemic, or the daily disasters like poverty, through the length and breadth of India, one can see spirited Goonj team, serving our sisters and brothers in need.    What started as an expression of the “still small voice” within them by giving away 67 of their own clothes, has become an idea, a movement in no time, today enabling 5,000 tonnes of material to be shared annually. Goonj has been torchbearer in highlighting clothing as a basic unaddressed need that deserved a place on the development agenda, and repositioned discard of urban households, as a development resource for villages. As Goonj has blazed the trail from discard to dignity, for a trash based (not cash based) circular economy. Born in the same year as their daughter Urvi, Goonj has been their child, as well as their parent.    Anshu Gupta - The eldest child in a middle-class family from Dehradun, a road accident in his teens rendered bed-ridden – botched healthcare because his father refused to pay a bribe. But the yearlong confinement in bed served as a period for introspection. To this, were added the seeds of service when he travelled to Uttarkashi in 1991 for post-earthquake relief efforts. Later, at Goonj, an organization he founded that redistributes over 3500 tonnes of used clothes annually, this first hand experience of rural India helped him structure imaginative solutions with urban surplus, to some basic needs that were outside the radar of civil society. Anshu Gupta, India’s Clothing Man, embodies an instinctive empathy and connect with people, moving the focus from the conventional – giver’s pride to the unconventional – receiver’s dignity. The Ramon Magsaysay award 2015, conferred to him credited him for “his creative vision in transforming the culture of giving in India, his enterprising leadership in treating cloth as a sustainable development resource for the poor, and in reminding the world that true giving always respects and preserves human dignity.” Anshu’s vision for Goonj extends beyond its organizational structure : “Goonj doesn’t want to grow only as an organization; it wants to grow as an idea.”    Meenakshi Gupta- A Commerce Graduate with an advanced degree in Advertising, Meenakshi largely remained the behind the scenes worker in the initial years of Goonj. In 2005 she joined the work full time, ending her 15 years corporate career, also ending 8-year stint as News Publicity Head at BBC South Asia. Often called the backbone of organization, Meenakshi serves the movement in multiple ways - right from anchoring the group in the foundational values, to giving voice to unheard communities like women including menstrual hygiene issues, it communications strategy, co-authoring 100 Stories of Change. Widely travelled and a trained Dance Movement Facilitator, Meenakshi values her time with people in the deep interiors of India as her biggest learning.    In this inspiring poem, they share their wisdom as they co-created their lives’ paths, and in turn, it shaped them.

Globally, 2.3 billion people lack basic sanitation services, making it a major challenge to manage menstruation. Over 150 million women in India suffer from period poverty. Periods are one of the leading reasons why girls drop out of education in the country. Many are forced to stay at home because they can't access or afford sanitary products. Some women use cloth or rags with sand, jute or even cow dung, which increases the risk of infections, while many are subjected to social, religious and cultural restrictions during menstruation. In this edition of WorklifeIndia, we talk to a menstrual comic series creator, a period campaigner and a public policy specialist to understand how India can address menstrual access and stigma. Anshu Gupta, popularly known as the Clothing Man, is the Founder of an India-based nonprofit Goonj and one of India’s leading social entrepreneurs. Starting as a freelance journalist, he left a corporate job in 1998 and founded Goonj with a mission to address the most basic but ignored need of clothing and the multifaceted role it plays in villages across India. Today Goonj is a pan-India movement working equally widely in cities and villages, dealing with more than 3,000 tons of material annually and addressing a core challenge of our time – the growing gap between the urban prosperity and rural poverty. By taking the menacing growth of urban waste and using it effectively and efficiently as a tool to trigger large-scale development work on diverse issues, Goonj has created a model for a parallel economy which is not cash based but trash based. Anshu is a 2017 Curry-Stone Design Prize Social Change Circle Honoree, an annual prize awarded to innovative projects that use design to address pressing social justice issues, and recipient of the prestigious 2015 Ramon Magsaysay Award in India which credited him for “his creative vision in transforming the culture of giving in India, his enterprising leadership in treating cloth as a sustainable development resource for the poor, and in reminding the world that true giving always respects and preserves human dignity.”
