We're throwing what we think about celebrity endorsements out the window after the US election results. Stop Everything! show daddy Benjamin Law and English teacher-turned comedian Urvi Majumdar join BW live on stage from the OzAsia Festival in Adelaide to debrief on the US election, and chat through everything there is to love about hit comedy The English Teacher, created by TikTok singing and dancing star Brian Jordan Alvarez. With eight bestselling novels, including Karna's Wife (2013), Sita's Sister (2014), Menaka's Choice (2015), Lanka's Princess (2016), The Fisher Queen's Dynasty (2017), Ahalya's Awakening (2019), Sarasvati's Gift (2021), and her latest Tara's Truce, Kavita has been at the forefront of bringing feminism to Indian mythology. In this episode, she dives deep into the story of Urmila and Lakshman, where Urmila, unlike Sita, didn't have the choice to accompany her husband to Vanvas. Uruvi's journey to reconcile with the social implications of her marriage and gaining acceptance within Karna's family is a gripping tale of love and intelligence. The conversation also covers the Apsaras' art of seduction and how Satyavati wielded more political power than Draupadi. Snarpur jarðskjálfti varð í Grímsfjalli í Vatnajökli, snemma í morgun, hlaup er hafið í jöklinum, aukið streymi í Gígjukvísl og auknar líkur á eldgosi. Eyjólfur Magnússon, vísindamaður hjá Jarðvísindastofnun Háskóla Íslands, hefur undanfarið rannsakað fyrri hlaup í þessari virku eldstöð, Grímsvötnum, og hefur fylgst náið með framvindu hlaupsins sem nú stendur yfir. Alls voru gefnar út 311 viðvaranir í fyrra en þær voru 380 ári áður. Þetta ár byrjar líka frekar rólega - sem betur fer. Við ræðum við Helgu Ívarsdóttur, fagstjóra veðurþjónustu, um veðurviðvaranir og þau fræði sem þær byggja á. Við fáum svo pistil frá Evlalíu Kolbrúnu Ágústsdóttur hjá Ungum umhverfissinnum, hún ætlar að fjalla um textíliðnaðinn. Tónlist: Brimkló, Björgvin Halldórsson - Ég las það í Samúel. In this recent episode, I had a heartfelt conversation with one of my past clients named Urvi. She opens up about the Mindset she carried with her on her fertility path as well as the spiritual practices she practiced along the way. She bravely shared her personal fertility journey, which lasted for eight years and involved going through IVF. Both Urvi and I connected on the shared experience of having one healthy embryo and navigating the challenges of one's path to motherhood. In our conversation she vulnerably reveals a painful medical condition she was diagnosed with impacting her ability to conceive. In deciding to move forward with IVF at the age of 38 and learning of her one healthy embryo, she shares what helped in most in not letting fear take over.As a spiritual teacher and mindset coach herself, Urvi understands the importance of tapping into the spiritual side of one's fertility path. She shares mantras that supported her, special signs and symbols, holistic practices, as well as the significance of the card I pulled in our one on one call together. It's an incredible soul sister conversation filled with tips to help you stay in that hopeful, empowered state as we move into the unknown through IVF. After joining one of my sisterhood circles, we scheduled a call during her two-week wait, where I helped guide her towards leading with love and trusting in her Inner Knowing. Urvi truly embodies the essence of what I write about in 'Hold On, Baby.' In this episode, you'll hear about the symbols, spiritual signs, serendipity, and how she tapped into her creativity and art. It's a beautiful conversation that I'm excited to share with you. You'll get to hear where she's at today and celebrate a big reveal in this talk! As a coach, advisor, and speaker, Urvi engages national and international audiences through inspiring and empowering talks, workshops, and team experiences with this message: Your inner world is the source of all change in your outer world. Urvi cohosts a podcast with her friend, Maggie Ward, called "Noticing". The free gift mentioned in the episode can be found here: https://urvi-patel.mykajabi.com/opt-in Here are the takeaways... When you are creating stories, create stories that work for you. Many times our stories have been reinforced externally and have come as a part of our conditioning. Understand where you pull those narratives from so you can separate those narratives from the story you want to carry forward. Intersectionality is a term coined by Dr. Kimberle' Crenshaw. "Intersectionality is a lens through which we can see where power comes and collides, where it locks and intersects. It's the acknowledgment that everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and of privilege." Feeling guilt about the privilege you have isn't helpful, so there is an invitation to leverage your privilege to create changes. When thinking about changing the status quo, it can be helpful to think of moving slowly. Thinking about plants. If you have a dried out plant, when you water it, the water comes out because the plant isn't able to take it all in. But if you move slowly, pouring little bits of water in at a time, the plant can absorb it. This idea can be applied to our work in diversity, equity, and inclusion as well. The reckoning of our time isn't a switch, it's tiny actions toward the creation of something new. That's the wisdom of trying to create solutions from a place of understanding. Your ability to create a space of belonging (or co-create) for others is dependent on your ability to create that space within yourself. That can mean that generative practices, energy work, gratitude moments or whatever it looks like for you to look within and generate self-love and self-acceptance are of critical importance as you begin the work of creating spaces for others. As you come into balance with yourself, your space will be more balanced. Values are verbs or phrases in action. Shared by all and followed by all is critical for the success of being values-driven. It doesn't matter what the value is, when it's ultra-clear it's like rocket fuel for you. When you live with integrity to what you value, everything goes smoother. Spending time determining what you value can be very supportive, especially when you ask yourself "why" you value what you do. Many times the symptoms of "this isn't working" is an indication there is a misalignment between the action and the value. Assimilation mode is when someone tries to embody the dominant culture's ideals, customs, and traditions to try to mitigate discrimination as much as they can to be accepted. Code-switching is changing the way you speak, dress or appear in order to be more accepted, and it can be exhausting. What do we know about various diets and their association with cancer? Have you ever wondered what the evidence shows? To answer this important question, Chadi hosts two specialists from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center: Urvi Shah, MD, hematologist oncologist (myeloma expert and a cancer survivor herself), and Neil Lyengar, MD, medical oncologist (breast cancer expert). They discuss whether there's a direct cause-and-effect relationship between lack of exercise and cancer diagnoses and alcohol/food consumption and cancer diagnoses, methodologies of studying these relationships in the breast and myeloma spaces, lifestyle and dietary interventions they are studying, how Keto and plant-based diets factor into the discussion, and a whole lot more. ONCE UPON A GENE - EPISODE 158 Medical Student - Urvi Gupta Joins the Global Genes Rare Compassion Program with Alexions Patient Advocacy Champion Wendy Erler Wendy Erler is passionate about the caregiver and patient voice being at the forefront of her work at Alexion Pharmaceuticals. Urvi Gupta is a second year medical student, working with the rare disease community to shape her professional path forward in the medical field. In this episode, I talk with Wendy Erler and Urvi Gupta about the Global Genes Rare Compassion Program. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Wendy, can you tell us about yourself? I lead the patient advocacy team at Alexion, a pharmaceutical company focused on rare diseases. We work with physicians, patients, families and caregivers and my job is focused on elevating that partnership and bringing the patient and caregiver voice into everything we do. Urvi, can you share how you became involved with the rare disease community? In a class called Clinical Correlation, we had a patient visit and they mentioned the Global Genes Rare Compassion Program, which matches up medical students with patients who have rare diseases to allow them to learn from each other. I've had three patient partners through that program and it's been amazing and inspiring to network with everyone in the rare disease community. Urvi, how essential do you think it is to experience a true doctor-patient relationship already? So many patients say their course of treatment varies greatly based on how well their doctor listens to them. I think that's so important when it comes to rare diseases because it's not something you see often and when a patient presents a unique set of symptoms, they can't be brushed off. It's been helpful to experience and come to understand that the patient's perspective is the one that matters and what will help get a diagnosis. Urvi, in what ways are you interested in raising awareness of the rare disease community? I would advise all medical students interested in rare disease to join the Global Genes Rare Compassion Program. There are a lot of other rare disease organizations always looking for help and there's likely a perspective you can offer. Mogambo knit together a heady, hypnotic sound from the many enigmatic strands of Asia's musical cultures: the deep traditional instrumentations of Siam and India, the high-tech edge of modern Bangkok and the rich Goan bloodline of trance. The results are both otherworldly, yet instantly comprehensible. And now the duo, consisting of producer Sunju Hargun and multi-instrumentalist Jerom Doudet, return with the latest missive from their own aptly-titled Siamese Twins Records: Urvi (उव). The much- anticipated follow-up to their sought-after debut 12” Cobra (कोबरा) is a multi-layered sound bath, as versatile as it is visceral. Urvi ranges from meditative sonic explorations to fearless entrancing rhythms and basslines, tangled together from the mysterious East. The opening track of the release and our premiere for today, "Durga (दुर्गा)," sounds like a start of the journey full of uncertainty but armed with the hope that something good will come out of it. Its positivity sets a good vibe for the rest of the release, which later gets more energetic with "Urvi," "Chakkar," and "Piya" and explores the depths of trance mysticism.
