Professor Tim Evans of Middlesex University discusses the report that higher-rate Scottish taxpayers have been heading south, explaining that it shows the truth of the Laffer Curve in action. He highlights the Basque Region's Mondragon Experiment which, in showing that there is a different way of running businesses, is effectively socialism without the state. Could it offer a future direction for the NHS? And he wonders how an increase in the UK's defence spending, announced by the Prime Minister, could work with so many other urgent calls on the public purse. Learn more about your ad choices. In this latest episode we look back on our beery fun since our last episode. We travelled to northern Spain for a break and enjoyed some great food and beers. We shamelessly looked at Guy Sinnott's insta for inspiration, caution, this profile will make you hungry! We're also looking forward to the next whiskey tasting in our favourite local bar Berminghams, you can get tickets here We also have given a name to my ranty section, #waynerants We hope you enjoy the show and get in touch with your feedback and thoughts, we've got a great guest coming to a future episode that we can't wait to share with you all.
Something a little bit different within this episode as we're guided by leader of the Agri Academy, Llyr Derwydd and members of the Business and Innovation programme as they visit Bilboa and the Basque region. It's a whistle-stop tour of the diverse farming practices within the region, from the more conventional dairy farm located in Laukiz to a vineyard and a tomato producer in Arrankudiaga. They group also visited Mutriku, a seaside village where the first wave electricity plant in Europe is located. This trip certainly inspired the next generation of farming and forestry innovators and entrepreneurs in Wales.
A shorter episode this week because I was in Biarritz France once, and it was AWESOME, but I was only there for six hours. That beautiful beach that I have ranked #3 in the world? THERE'S NO TIME!!! Let's walk around and see what we find...
San Sebastian is gorgeous, with my #1 ranked best beach in the world. Come for the coast, stay for the nightlife and the pintxos. What a great place.....

"Eighty years ago, this April, Spain fell under a thirty year dictatorship after right beat left in a brutal civil war. History feels acutely alive to me today and not just because for the first time in my life, I'm in Spain." The F-Word, Laura Flanders' commentary. Support theLFShow! What would democracy look like if it first existed at the workplace rather than in the woesome consignment of America's party-politics, which renders our dreams for The Golden Square into Squalid Shit-mash? For this episode of The Future Is A Mixtape, Jesse & Matt have a discussion about this paradise where workers actually experience freedom, equity and solidarity with two folks who've jump-started one of the first media co-ops in Southern California: Dan Nowman Niswander, creator, host, and producer of The Nowman Show and Dr. George Kallas, a political analyst and Political Science Professor at Miramar College in San Diego. We'll learn about their chance-encounter and their epiphany to do the mind-meld by creating Arete Media Productions. Principally though, they will discuss why we mislabel democracy in Da Yankeelands, define what co-ops are, and also explain what makes worker-owned co-ops so very visionary in our Age of Workplace Tyranny & DollarDoom.
