It's News Day Tuesday on The Majority Report On today's program: As airports remain in chaos due to the DHS shutdown, Trump has deployed ICE agents to assist TSA agents (stand around aimlessly). Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) says that the Senate had agreed on a deal to fund everything but ICE, which can be funded through reconciliation, but Trump shut it down. Trump has been very forceful in his opposition to any deal that doesn't include the SAVE Act which of course has nothing to do with DHS funding. Suzanne Mettler, Political Science Professor at Cornell University, joins the program for a conversation about her book co-authored with Trevor E. Brown, Urban Versus Rural: The Growing Divide That Threatens Democracy. In the Fun Half: The X account Call to Activism has leaked a video of Zoom meeting between Chip Roy, who introduced the SAVE Act, admitting that his chief of staff has had an extremely difficult time getting a real ID. The field is set. 27 candidates — the most ever by far — filed to run for Nevada's 2nd congressional district after the sudden retirement announcement from Republican Rep. Mark Amodei. With no incumbent running and a potentially bluer national landscape, some political insiders believe a Democrat could flip the seat for the first time ever. Is that a reality? Who are the top contenders on both sides? This week on the Ballot Battleground: Nevada podcast, host Ben Margiott speaks with UNR political science professor Jeremy Gelman about the partisan makeup of CD2, its deep red history, the possibility of a flip and the type of candidate who might have a realistic shot. An especially noteworthy 2026 primary election has come and gone, and there were a lot of important and high-profile outcomes – some expected and some surprising. Topping the list of predicted results were the outcomes in the Democratic and Republican U.S. Senate primaries, where former Gov. Roy Cooper and GOP party official Michael Whatley cruised to easy wins and are now set for what all expect to be an expensive November showdown. Interestingly, however, despite its national importance, the Senate primaries were partially overshadowed by a Republican primary in a state Senate race in which longtime Senate leader Phil Berger and Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page are headed for a recount. NC Newsline caught up with Western Carolina University political science professor Chris Cooper to review these and other results. Click here to listen to the full interview with Western Carolina University political science professor Chris Cooper.

What do the Venezuela operation and the January 6 attack on the Capitol, which happened five years ago, tell us about President Donald Trump? "The anniversary of January 6th and the insurrection and uprising that occurred that goes on when Congress comes back into session with the background of what just happened in Venezuela, I think completely captures the reckless endangerment of others by this president and how he acts," said David McCuan, a Political Science Professor at Sonoma State University.
