London is calling, and Matt Serra and Jim Norton invite a pair of fighters from this Saturday's card in England to preview some of the action! First, bantamweight prospect Nathan Fletcher stops by to discuss his journey from The Ultimate Fighter 32 to the UFC. He reflects on his experience in the TUF house, recovering from a brutal leg injury, and making his UFC debut. Plus, he previews his upcoming fight against Caolán Loughran (a rematch from their amateur days) before sharing his thoughts on his teammate Paddy Pimblett's UFC 314 co-main event against Michael Chandler. Then, fan-favorite Kevin Holland joins the show to talk about his return to welterweight as he prepares to face Gunnar Nelson. Holland discusses Nelson's dangerous submission game, their vastly different activity levels, and how he's approaching this matchup after fighting three straight at middleweight. Before wrapping up, the guys preview UFC London, debating whether Leon Edwards can bounce back from his title loss or if Sean Brady is primed for the biggest win of his career.

A new kind of city park has emerged in the early twenty-first century. Postindustrial parks transform the derelict remnants of an urban past into distinctive public spaces that meld repurposed infrastructure, wild-looking green space, and landscape architecture. For their proponents, they present an opportunity to turn disused areas into neighborhood anchors, with a host of environmental and community benefits. Yet there are clear economic motives as well—successful parks have helped generate billions of dollars of city tax revenues and real estate development. In Parks for Profit: Selling Nature in the City (Columbia University Press, 2022) Dr. Kevin Loughran explores the High Line in New York, the Bloomingdale Trail/606 in Chicago, and Buffalo Bayou Park in Houston to offer a critical perspective on the rise of the postindustrial park. He reveals how elites deploy the popularity and seemingly benign nature of parks to achieve their cultural, political, and economic goals. As urban economies have become restructured around finance, real estate, tourism, and cultural consumption, parks serve as civic shields for elite-oriented investment. Tracing changing ideas about cities and nature and underscoring the centrality of race and class, Dr. Loughran argues that postindustrial parks aestheticize past disinvestment while serving as green engines of gentrification. A wide-ranging investigation of the political, cultural, and economic forces shaping park development, Parks for Profit reveals the social inequalities at the heart of today's new urban landscape. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. The defense team in the high-profile Karen Read murder trial began presenting its case on Friday, following the prosecution's conclusion after calling 68 witnesses. Defense attorneys Alan Jackson and David Yanetti called their first witness, snowplow driver Brian “Lucky” Loughran, whose testimony they believe is crucial to challenging the prosecution's timeline and theory. Loughran, a Canton town employee, testified that he was plowing his regular route during a storm on the night of January 29, 2022, and passed by 34 Fairview Road, the location where Boston police officer John O'Keefe's body was later found. According to Loughran, he drove by the house at 2:45 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. but saw no body on the lawn either time. “When you make that first pass by that residence at 2:45 in the morning, sir, with your headlights on,” Attorney David Yanetti asked, “What, if anything, did you see on the front lawn in the area of the flagpole?” “I saw nothing,” Loughran replied. “If there had been a six-foot-two, 200-pound man lying in the snow there, would you have seen it?” Yanetti inquired. Prosecutor Adam Lally objected to this line of questioning, and Judge Beverly Cannone sustained the objection. Loughran later testified that he saw a Ford Edge parked near the flagpole on a subsequent pass, a vehicle owned by Brian Albert, the then-owner of 34 Fairview Road. Prosecutor Lally challenged the reliability of Loughran's testimony, suggesting that his account has changed over time and questioning his timeline. Despite these objections, the defense maintains that Loughran's observations are pivotal in disproving the prosecution's case. “I saw nothing,” Loughran reiterated, emphasizing that he had a clear view of the lawn and would have noticed a body if it had been there. He also mentioned seeing a car parked in front of the house during his later pass but chose not to report it due to his familiarity with the Albert family. In a significant development in the Karen Read murder trial, Dr. Marie Russell, a retired emergency room physician and forensic pathologist, testified that the wounds on John O'Keefe's right arm were likely caused by an animal attack, potentially by a large dog. Dr. Russell's testimony aligns with the defense's theory that O'Keefe was attacked by "Chloe," a German shepherd mix living at the scene. "I have a very strong interest in wounds in general, and I have a strong interest in dog bites in particular," Russell explained. She has extensive experience in the field, having seen over 500 patients with animal-related injuries and authored several peer-reviewed papers on law enforcement dog bites. Defense attorneys Alan Jackson and David Yanetti used Dr. Russell's testimony to challenge the prosecution's claim that Read struck O'Keefe with her SUV. Projecting an image of O'Keefe's wounded arm, Jackson asked Russell to describe the injuries. She pointed to "a number of patterns" in the wounds, including parallel lines she identified as "inflicted by either teeth or claw marks" and "punctate" marks from a pointy tooth. When asked if she believed the injuries were from an animal attack, Russell replied, "Yes, based on a reasonable degree of medical certainty." During cross-examination, Assistant District Attorney Adam Lally questioned Russell's qualifications, noting she is not certified in forensic medicine or pathology and last worked in a coroner's office in 1995. Russell acknowledged these points but stood by her assessment, stating she formed her opinion after reviewing hospital records, autopsy photos, grand jury testimony, and local dog bite reports. The defense argues that O'Keefe was beaten inside the house and bitten by Albert's dog before being placed outside, countering the prosecution's timeline that O'Keefe was hit by Read's SUV around 12:45 a.m. The defense pointed to Chloe, the dog living at 34 Fairview Road, as the likely culprit for O'Keefe's arm injuries. With a full week of testimony expected this week, the defense aims to conclude their presentation quickly. Attorney Yanetti suggested to Boston 25 Investigative Reporter Ted Daniel that they could wrap up by this week with only three witnesses left to call. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The MMA Vivisection Shows: 'Main Card Preview' & 'Prelims Card Preview'
UFC Atlantic City's main card is a pretty good offfering even if that portion only has a single ranked fight on it. The same can be said for the prelims, as they carry the only other ranked fight on the card, and it is also a women's bout, this time between Virna Jandiroba and Lupita Godinez. Both women have been enjoying successful runs over their last few fights, so it gets no complaints from us. MMA Draw Podcast is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. In the featured prelim spot, Jamall Emmers will be taking on the uber-tough Nate Landwehr. Emmers has begun to take on the Andre Fili “win-one-lose-one” vibe, having alternated wins and losses over his last seven fights. Landwehr is coming off a loss to Dan Ige last June. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top here, as both men are insanely tough and durable. MMALOTN is back to give you breakdowns and predictions for UFC Paris: Gane vs Spivac. THIS PATREON IS FOR THE FIGHT LINK DATABASE, NOT MY PICKS/BETS/WRITE UPS.
With Jim Norton out for the day, friend of the show Phoenix Carnevale reprises her role as a guest co-host alongside Matt Serra for an episode of UFC Unfiltered that features two guest callers in bantamweight Caolán Loughran and actor Louis Mandylor. Set to make his UFC debut on this Saturday's card in Paris, Loughran explains how a last minute switch of opponent hasn't changed his all-business mindset going into a fight in hostile territory against French veteran Taylor Lapilus. The unbeaten Irish bantamweight then goes on to explain why he believes he'll be the next UFC champion to come out of the Cage Warriors promotion. Shortly thereafter, Matt and Phoenix are joined by actor and director Louis Mandylor; a former professional boxer in his own right. The Australian actor surprises the two co-hosts with his vast UFC knowledge and ultimately weighs in on Saturday's card with his opinion on how French heavyweight Ciryl Gane can overcome his grappling deficiencies against a Sambo specialist like Serghei Spivac in the main event. Fresh off the mid-August release of his action film '3 Days In Malay', Louis wraps up his interview by sharing how serving as director of the film featuring Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson sparked two newfound friendships with the retired UFC fighters. Finally, Matt and Phoenix wrap up the show by looking at some of the fights on Saturday's card!
When Caolan Loughran joined The Craic earlier this week, he had no idea his original opponent Yanis Ghemmouri would withdraw from their bantamweight clash only to replaced by one of the most experienced fighters in France, Taylor Lapilus. That said, the former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion is brimming with confidence as he took aim at all things French MMA, Sean O'Malley and Chito Vera. Could his debut at UFC Paris be the first step to him becoming the new frontrunner in Irish MMA? “The Don” certainly thinks so. Loughran also discusses advice he's been given from legendary U.K. coach Colin Heron, why he thinks French MMA is inferior and how exciting it is to be in a division that's championed by O'Malley.
“The Don” Caolan Loughran joins the show ahead of his debut at UFC Paris. The UFC bantamweight discuss his signing, how he felt guilty initially due to Paul Hughes remaining unsigned by the UFC, his aspirations to fight on a December PPV alongside Conor McGregor and what he expects from his UFC debut. Loughran gave insights on his entering the USADA testing pool, his gratitude to legendary U.K. coach Colin Heron and the long list of fighters who have earned his social media ire.
