Dan Simpson always loved acting and performing as a child — and this love took him to Fun Kids, the UK's children's radio station. But he's always been just as curious about what goes on behind the scenes. So when he started thinking about writing his own novel, he decided to create a podcast — one that looks at the real routines and habits of our favourite authors called Writer's RoutineEight years later, with more than one and a half million downloads, Dan's spoken to all kinds of writers — people like Sir Ian Rankin, Jojo Moyes, Lisa Jewell and David Nicholls. What I love about his story is that it shows how following your heart doesn't just take you where you're meant to be — it can end up helping others too.I've been listening to Dan's podcast for several years now, and honestly, the stories he's shared have really helped me keep going with my own writing. Dan's funny, warm, and just brilliant. In our chat, we talk about the importance of a childhood filled with confidence — and he shares what to do when those pesky blocks of perfection start getting in your way.To discover Dan's brilliant podcast you find find him here: https://writersroutinedotcom.wordpress.com/To download your free novella a gift from me to your for supporting my podcast click here: https://www.elliebarkerwrites.com/And to sign up to my Next Chapter 3 pieces of Inspiration mailing list - and I'd love that you can also click here: https://www.elliebarkerwrites.com/ Hosted on Acast. Send us a textTwenty years ago, when Dan Adler told friends and family he was leaving the Air Force to become a hunting guide, they asked what he'd do for "real money." Today, as founder of North America's largest outfitting operation with 61 guides across 42 million acres, Dan has the last laugh—and the best stories.Dan takes us from his earliest days as a fishing-obsessed kid working on boats at age 13 to becoming a first-generation hunter who built an empire from scratch. With entertaining candor, he shares two unforgettable "bathroom disaster" stories that had me laughing out loud: one involving a negative camper who received some karmic justice via a collapsed toilet seat, and another featuring a confused 10-year-old who misunderstood instructions about his canteen during a youth hunt. The highlight comes when Dan reveals a technique called "shock bugling" that he reluctantly used with a Navy SEAL client who initially forbade bugling as a calling strategy. When the SEAL finally got his opportunity at a massive bull elk, he experienced what Dan calls "cheese melting"—a phenomenon where even the most disciplined individuals freeze up from pure excitement and physically cannot draw their bow.Throughout our conversation, Dan offers invaluable perspective for hunters of all experience levels, particularly about trophy expectations. He notes that only 4% of harvested elk exceed 350 inches and less than 1% surpass 360 inches, reminding us that a 300-inch bull is still a remarkable achievement. His advice to hunters feeling the pressure of score expectations is refreshingly simple: enjoy the freedom, the outdoors, and the experience rather than fixating on antler measurements.Ready to learn more from this hunting entrepreneur? Check out Dan's upcoming book "Suck Less at Hunting" or explore his innovative Zero Outfitter Fees program designed to make guided hunts more accessible. We kick off this month's podcast with a deep dive into Mark's measurements, make what you will of that but be warned it caught me off guard. Topics of discussion this time round also include a deeper dive into the functionality of a carps gut governed by water temperatures. Do you think about the carp's cold water digestion process when you apply bait, maybe it's not front of mind but considering a carp's gut operates differently in cold water it's a topic that's worth exploring. We also have the second installment of Dan Kilgour's story. The first episode went down a storm, Dan's passion was infectious and the drive and determination he puts into his fishing, his particles and his profession was incredible. I really enjoyed recording these two episodes and I hope you get a real insight into the life of a working man, one juggling family life and carp fishing while growing his side hustle, the highly regarded Big Dogs Nuts. Enjoy.

We've been looking forward to this one dropping. This is the first part of a really honest chat with Mr Big Dogs himself, The Iceman, Dan Kilgour. We delve into the sort of big carp hunting that runs deep in Dan's DNA and discuss how demanding it has been over the years, but as you'll get to hear, he wouldn't change it for the world. We also delve into mine and Marks winter tactics that have recently helped us catch some lovely winter carp. We also touch on what carp are looking for in the winter, how they digest food and how our approach shoud be tailored to cold water carp, to keep the bites coming. Enjoy!

VicNoTill is at the forefront of change in Australian agriculture, and for the past three years fifth generation Marrar farmer Dan Fox has been president of this farmers helping farmers organisation. Dan sits down with new president Michael Gooden to share how leading change in Australian agriculture has helped him from both a practical and personal perspective. Soil health has been a progressive journey for Dan. His non-negotiables are 100% groundcover and no soil disturbance, which come about through his strip and disc system. But once he understood what else he could achieve, he opened Pandora's box. Stepping into the president's role enabled Dan to further understand soil systems and how soils function, through the opportunity to form stronger relationships with other farmers, agronomists, soil health specialists and scientists that are passionate about ‘good farming'. During the past three years he travelled extensively to farms across southern Australia and learnt a ‘hell of a lot' about soils in different contexts and soils in general. Meeting people from around the world who are as passionate as he is about a positive, progressive future for agriculture that is focussed on growing nutrient-rich food has helped Dan take what he and his family are doing in their own paddocks to the next level.

"Starting Over" With close to thirty albums under his belt, the Iowa-born Dan Bern is one of the great iron men of rock and roll. I guess he's kind of the Cal Ripken of modern music--why? Because he keeps showing up with high quality work. From albums like Fifty Eggs to to the newly re-mastered New American Language, Bern is one of the very best we have. His music is observational, clever and poignant, and it always comes with a melodic center that makes each number he writes more impossible resist than the last. He's collaborated with Emmylou Harris, opened for The Who, written songs for the movie Walk Hard, authored two books, recorded children's albums, created and hosted two podcasts, and painted countless portraits of sports figures. If you're getting the idea that Dan Bern is busy creating things you're right. Part traditionalist, part punk, Bern has proven over and over that he's one of the best and most durable songwriters on the planet. His 2001 album New American Language has been re-mastered and issued on vinyl for the first time and his new album is on the way. Dan Cooper: Based on the Real Story of the Relentless Pursuit of the Northwest Orient Flight 305 Hijacker D.B. Cooper by Jude Morrow https://amzn.to/47nR2Ts In the chilling haze of a Pacific Northwest evening, on November 24, 1971, a mysterious man calling himself ‘Dan Cooper' boards Northwest Orient Flight 305. Armed with a briefcase bomb and dark shades to mask his intent, he swiftly extorts $200,000 along with four parachutes and disappears mid-flight, leaping into the unknown from a Boeing 727's aft staircase. Using real case evidence and eye-witness testimonies, Jude Morrow has crafted an authentic and creative duel narrative of why 'Dan Cooper', or 'D.B. Cooper' as he became popularly known, committed the crime that he did, and the relentless efforts of the FBI to track him down. Beneath the hijacker's enigmatic facade lies a past intertwined with rural Canada, service in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and daring aid-drops in war-torn Vietnam. As the world grapples with his audacious crime, relentless FBI agent Clifford Harding finds himself consumed by the chase for 'D.B Cooper'. Young, sharp, yet teetering on the edge of obsession, Harding's pursuit blurs the line between justice and vendetta. With shadows from ‘Dan's' past looming and Harding's intentions growing murkier, one is left to wonder: Who is the real villain in the hijacking? Will Harding unravel the mystery, or become its next casualty? Show Notes About The Guest(s): Jude Morrow is an author and speaker who has written books about his experiences as an autistic child in the mainstream school system. He has also worked as a social worker and in business. Jude's latest book, "Dan Cooper," is a historical fiction based on the real story of the DB Cooper hijacking. Eric Ulis is a former professional card counter and blackjack player. He has a deep interest in the DB Cooper mystery and has been involved in various TV shows and events related to the case. Eric is the organizer and founder of CooperCon, an annual event dedicated to all things DB Cooper. Summary: Jude Morrow and Eric Ulis join Chris Voss to discuss the DB Cooper mystery and Jude's latest book, "Dan Cooper." They delve into the details of the hijacking, including Cooper's demands and the subsequent investigation. Jude explains how he crafted a believable character based on the limited information available about Cooper. Eric shares insights from his research and involvement in the DB Cooper community. They also discuss CooperCon, an annual event that brings together enthusiasts and experts to discuss the case. Key Takeaways: DB Cooper was an unknown man who hijacked a plane in 1971, demanded a ransom, and then jumped out of the plane with the money and parachutes. Cooper's identity and fate remain a mystery, as he was never found or heard from again. Cooper's calm and collected demeanor, lack of profanity, and knowledge of aviation suggest he may have had some experience in the field. The DB Cooper case continues to captivate people's imaginations, and events like CooperCon provide a platform for discussion and exploration of the mystery. Quotes: "Guy gets on plane. Guy gets money and parachutes. Guy disappears, never to be found or heard from again." - Chris Voss "He's a guy that looks like everybody and sounds like nobody." - Jude Morrow "Cooper was a boring old fart, and that's how he got away with it." - Jude Morrow "DB Cooper is a mystery wrapped in an enigma." - Chris Voss About the author Born on the 7th of August 1990 in Derry, Jude Morrow is an autistic best-selling author, TEDx Speaker, and the founder of Neurodiversity Training International. Jude's debut memoir, Why Does Daddy Always Look So Sad?, won the gold medal at the Living Now Book Awards in 2021.
