After years of personal healing and practice, I started to notice 4 key recurring themes or practices that were driving my healing and growth. So, over the past 11 years, I've woven these into my work with other midlife women, watching, testing, and iterating. And I observed that these principles and practices were key in supporting positive transformation or growth for them as well. You can begin to use what you learn here, in this episode, and in the free resource, to foster healthy change in your relationship with yourself and in your life, starting today.
In a soul-honouring life, we look back to witness and celebrate our progress and to mine for wisdom. We look forward to cast a vision, set goals, and reimagine who we are becoming. But then, we must pull our hearts and minds back so we can live fully willing and present in each moment and each day. Even the super messy, deeply challenging, or pretty wonderful yet not perfect days.In this episode, I share a recent example from my life when I did not get everything checked off my to-do list and fear and urgency crept in. Nothing was truly wrong in the moment, but if I believed the story that fear was spinning, my future was doomed;)Thankfully, my Wise Self spoke up and gently offered the anxious part of me a different thought.“This too is what it means to trust yourself and your seasonal rhythms. The rhythms and practices you build into your life are there to serve YOU. You are not subservient to them. And when consistency turns into rigidity, it is no longer serving you." Life is messy. It has always been messy. But each messy day is a gift - and each imperfect day IS our real life. And the quality of my life is not determined by perfect accounting. Or perfection of any kind. Never has been.ResourcesIf you want to create a soul-honouring life, one that is an expression of your True Self and helps you thrive forward in every season, you need to check out the Life Visioning Course: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/life-visioning-course/Join the waitlist for the Brave and Beautiful Community for growth-minded midlife women: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/community/Connect with Krista:Instagram: @a_life_in_progressFacebook: @alifeinprogressca and @rebrandingmiddleageYouTube: @ALifeinProgressWebsite: alifeinprogress.ca
Over the past few episodes I've been talking about elements of a soul-honouring life.Today I'm talking about how when you recognize that your capacity shifts in new life seasons, and how honouring your wiring and capacity in different seasons of life - is an important way that you can befriend yourself and also create a sustainable and soul-honouring life for yourself.Key ideas you'll learn about in this episode:What it means to honour your wiring and capacity. Why this matters to you as a midlife woman. And why this feels challenging our counter-intuitive to you.The reasons that learning to do this not only helps you rest and restore but also helps you EXPAND your capacity for the fullness of life.May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Learning to fully love and respect who you are and how you are wired supports your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Constantly judging yourself as bad, wrong, or broken because you cannot keep up with a societal expectations or your conditioned expectations on yourself is harmful.Giving yourself permission to be your True Self, unravelling all the old beliefs about how you "should" be or all the ways you learned to perform or prove yourself is freeing and hopeful. This is one of the kindest and wisest things you can do for yourself. I know that bills still need to paid and this doesn't magically fix hard circumstances in this season of your life. But if you can be on your own side, and lay down shame and judgment, life will feel a whole lot easier and kinder.ResourcesFree Life Visioning Class: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/life-visioning-exercise/If you want to create a soul-honouring life, one that is an expression of your True Self and helps you thrive forward in every season, you need to check out the Life Visioning Course: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/life-visioning-course/Join the waitlist for the Brave and Beautiful Community for growth-minded midlife women: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/community/Connect with Krista:Instagram: @a_life_in_progressFacebook: @alifeinprogressca and @rebrandingmiddleageYouTube: @ALifeinProgressWebsite: alifeinprogress.ca
In this episode I share one of my favourite empowering and life-giving practices. It offers a huge ROI in my life. And I've seen the change that happens for others when I teach them this practice.A soul-honouring life is an expression of True Self in the world. Last episode I focused on how knowing your Core Values helps you be your True Self and make decisions aligned with what truly matters to you.It takes a bit of time to not only identify your Core Values but also to learn how to use them in practical ways - or how to live them in concrete ways. And some people feel overwhelmed by figuring out their core values at first. So today I'm sharing how you can receive most of the same benefits in an easier to access, and even less-threatening (or activating) way. Which brings us to my favourite practice of choosing 3-5 Mind-Body-Spirit Intentions each year.Mind-Body-Spirit Intentions (or MBSIs) are words that reflect your current growth edge and how you want to feel in your body and life. They paint a vivid mental and emotional picture of who you want to be in your life.MBSIs are not magic fairy dust or wishful thinking. When you name your Mind-Body-Spirit Intentions for the year, you are simply naming (or claiming) what you are committed to practicing. In this episode you'll learn; The 3 key filters for my life. What distinguishes a core value from an MBSI.The difference between an outward orientation and an inner orientation (and why it matters to you). How our experience of life can shift even radically depending on how we show up to it.And why the most important thing to remember is that every day you get to ask ourself "will I practice, or will I not?"NEW Free ResourceName what you want + Bridge the gap between current reality and what you desire: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/life-visioning-exercise/If you want to create a soul-honouring life, one that is an expression of your True Self and helps you thrive forward in every season, you need to check out the Life Visioning Course: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/life-visioning-course/Join the waitlist for the Brave and Beautiful Community for growth-minded midlife women: https://www.alifeinprogress.ca/community/Connect with Krista:Instagram: @a_life_in_progressFacebook: @alifeinprogressca and @rebrandingmiddleageYouTube: @ALifeinProgressWebsite: alifeinprogress.ca
We may dream of the "perfect church, but this portion from Acts shows us something far better: God's Beautiful Community, shaped not by human preference, but by His Word and Spirit. Together we'll consider how our worship should be anchored in Christ and His Word, found in gathering around Word, sacrament, prayer andfellowship, marked by awe, joy, and unity as a community that displays God's grace and draws others to Christ.Time:MorningMinister:Rev. This week, Tom Regan preaches on Matthew 18:1-35 as part of “Messiah,” our sermon series on the Gospel of Matthew.
One of the biggest threats to the church in America isn't external: the loss of power. It's internal: our inability to give power away. The book of Acts, and especially this passage, helps by showing us what it means to be the church.

In this episode, Irwyn Ince and I talk about hope in the context of race, oppression, community, and lament. He inspires us to persevere in hope through difficult times. We explore the roots of hope in Christ despite past rejections, detangling oppressive actions from the gospel message, and the importance of fixing one's gaze on Jesus and enduring through suffering by looking to his example. So join us as we actively push against narratives of division by demonstrating a third way of Jesus and regularly check where we are placing our hope. So Much More: Creating Space for God (Lectio Divina and Scripture Meditation)
You are not an accident. You did not happen by chance.Sadly, many of us believe these heartbreaking lies. The truth is: God was involved in every aspect of your creation. He knew you - and loved you - before you were even born.We need to reframe our thinking about ourselves. When we understand whom God created us to be – and when we start to grasp his love and grace – then we can live the life God is inviting us to. One that is abundant, full, and even restful. In this podcast, James Bryan Smith and I discuss how understanding the good and beautiful you we've been created to be leads to flourishing. James Bryan Smith is the author of the Good and Beautiful Series, which includes: The Good and Beautiful God, The Good and Beautiful Life, The Good and Beautiful Community, and now his new book, The Good and Beautiful You: Discovering the Person Jesus Created You to Be. He is a theology professor at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and is the director of the Apprentice Institute for Christian Spiritual Formation.James is also an ordained minister with the United Methodist Church and has served in various capacities in local churches. And he hosts the Things Above Podcast. Great News! You can get 30% off and free shipping on the entire Good and Beautiful series – including The Good and Beautiful You - at the link below with the code MUCHMORE until February 2, 20023https://www.ivpress.com/the-good-and-beautiful-you Some highlights from our conversation:James Bryan Smith previously thought “The Good and Beautiful” series was complete until a friend suggested he needed one more book. Hear how this happened and why James agreed with his friend.James ends each chapter with a soul-training practice. The first one is called Holy Leisure. James and I discuss why he placed this practice first and why it's a foundational practice for the concepts he unpacks in the book.We discuss the false narrative that we are an accident. James tells us what the true and biblical narrative is and why this matters so much when we are seeking to live restful lives.James says, “It's unavoidable and not a sin to want to be wanted, to love to be loved, and to desire to be desired.” We talk about this truth, why it's not narcissistic, and how these deep longings are met through our Triune God.We talk about one of my favorite subjects – the finality of the cross. James unpacks this wonderful truth for us and helps us let go of the false thinking that we must confess each and every one of our sins to be forgiven. If this is a new concept to you – listen to it multiple times. This will give you deep and lasting freedom – and that freedom will release you from much of the anxiety you might feel in your relationship with the Lord. Here's how you can connect with James Bryan Smith and listen to his podcast:Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Official.JamesBryanSmithTwitter: https://twitter.com/jamesbryansmithPodcast: https://apprenticeinstitute.org/things-above-podcast/
Enter to win The Good & Beautiful Series through Dec. 10th, 2022 James Bryan Smith and Amber discuss how his friendship with Dallas Willard and Rich Mullins shaped his spiritual life. Then, they dive in to The Good and Beautiful series which encourages the follower of Jesus to live out the Gospel change in our daily lives by understanding who God is, what it means to live in the kingdom of God on earth, as an individual and in community, and who Jesus created you to be. Questions Discussed During The Good & Beautiful Life: Your spiritual journey has been influenced greatly by personal friendships with people like Dallas Willard, Richard Foster and Rich Mullins. Share a bit of your faith journey and how these men helped shape your walk with Jesus. When you think about the Kingdom of Heaven, how would you describe it? Like many, God has used Willard's teachings in a powerful way in both my husband and his best friend Josh's lives. One of the questions Josh suggested I ask of you is, "What is your most cherished Dallas Willard memory?" You've written many books, but let's focus on The Good and Beautiful series, starting with The Good and Beautiful God. You begin with "the path to spiritual transformation begins with what we think about God." What are some common false thoughts we have about God and what are truths about God that we see Jesus reveal? In The Good and Beautiful Life you lay out these false notions of happiness and success that we've bought into by replacing them with Jesus' narratives about life in the kingdom of God. Will you flesh that out a bit for us? In The Good and Beautiful Community you focus on bringing spiritual formation and community engagement together. What are some spiritual practices that can help us avoid compartmentalizing our life with Jesus and our social justice efforts? Another question from Josh (along those same lines), How does being virtuous translate to more than "just being nice" or "calm and peaceful"? And you end the series with The Good and Beautiful You addressing toxic self narratives that hinder our life with Christ. What are some of the toxic narratives you spoke over yourself and how did those come into view as you wrote this book? Let's close with a few more questions from my husband's best friend Josh :) What advice would you give to a young parent who wants to lead their children in the way of Christ? What advice do you have for pastors or spiritual leaders who are facing burnout? Show Notes cont.
