In this adventurous episode of Wise_N_Nerdy, Charles and Joe dive into an imaginative conversation sparked by the Question of the Week: “If you had to survive in a video game world for a month, which one would you choose?” From the loot-fueled chaos of Borderlands, to the pixelated charm of Minecraft, the demonic danger of Diablo, and the classic magic of Baldur's Gate, the hosts explore what it would take to survive — or thrive — in these digital realms.Next, the roll of the dice lands on a fan-favorite (and slightly groan-inducing) moment: Bad Dad Jokes. This time, they're courtesy of an AI, delivering maximum cringe and maximum laughs. From there, it's on to the “How Do I…?” segment, where Charles and Joe discuss financial strategies for married couples. They weigh the benefits of joint accounts versus separate ones, budgeting tools, and the importance of clear, honest communication when it comes to money and marriage. The energy shifts in “What Are You Nerding Out About?” where Charles gets real about the power of great relationships and networking, and Joe highlights a hilarious anime gem, Sakamoto Days, where a retired assassin just wants to run a convenience store… without losing his edge. Charles also gives a shout-out to his guest appearance on Between The Pages with Bob McGough. Then it's time for “Daddy, Tell Me A Story,” where Joe shares a touching tribute to his dad, Papa Nascar, who modeled charity and kindness throughout his life. It's a heartfelt reminder of the legacy parents leave through everyday acts of goodness. Finally, the Parliament of Papas segment brings a story from the internet: a girlfriend feels awkward about being expected to overly praise her boyfriend for a so-so meal. Joe and Charles dig into the importance of gratitude, appreciation, and managing expectations in relationships — especially the quiet ways we support each other daily.Whether you're here for video game daydreams, practical relationship tips, or a dose of dad-style heart, this episode is a perfect place to Find your FAMdom.Wise_N_Nerdy: Where Fatherhood Meets Fandom.
This week sees the very first Between The Pages episode! A little different to the regular Ask The Author episodes, Between The Pages is an indepth interview with an author, where we take a deep dive into author life, writing, and publish. We will cover many and varied topics and hopefully, there will be many takeaways for listeners. I love chatting with other authors about their path to publication, their processes and their take and experience within the industry, so I hope you enjoy listening. My very first Between The Pages guest is author DG Rampton. Diana (pronounced Dee-yana) is an indie author hugely successful within the historical romance genre, specifically Regency romance. We have a great chat about how she stumbled into writing, pursued indie publishing, and is learning along the way. We chat about writing processes and rituals (she has a great ritual!), online marketing, indie publishing, how wonderful writing and reading romance is, and so much more. Enjoy the episode. And if you want to hear more Between The Pages episodes, let me know. (But don't worry, these aren't going to replace the regular bite-sized eps anytime soon!) Don't forget to like and subscribe to the podcast so you don't miss an episode. Detailed show notes can be found at www.jfgibson.com.au And if you have a burning questions you'd like answered, please email through my contact form on my website above, or reach out on Instagram where you'll find me @jfgibsonwriter You can also support the show by buying me a coffee on https://buymeacoffee.com/jodigibson Your support helps with the hosting and production costs of the show, so thank you. And, you'll get a shout out on the next episode too! Happy listening (and writing)! Jodi
There you have it, the beginning of another episode of Dirty Poetry, using the word poetry very loosely. This episode is couple ofstories about libraries and librarians. Before we get to thegoddesses who bring life to these hallowed halls, let's give somecredit to the students and researchers who find their adventures backin the stacks. Our first story is about a grad student who, in a hazeof exhaustion, discovers what she is really looking for.Between The Pages by Z.S. RoeThat was Between The Pages written by Z.S. Roe who describeshimself as a book lover, a tea addict and by trade, a glass worker.Z.S. Row is primarily a poet but nevertheless has 10 published shortstories, the latest being what Grew Before the Sun, which waspublished in the Big Book of Orgasms, Volume 2 that came out in 2022.For many of us who came from a time before there was an internet, libraries were our window on the world. Like diving into an ocean, there was always so much more to explore. They were all, large andsmall, places that were cherished and revered. They were, and are, populated by brilliant women. Brilliant women who work so hard atbeing contained and proper. But to my eye, they are goddesses whobring life to hallowed halls. And they are always so much more awoman than their work allows them to be.When I was young, I would travel to one of the great libraries, sometimes several hours on a bus. There were statues by famousartists at the entrance and great art hung in the halls. The mainreading room was huge, long and cavernous with a high arched andvaulted ceiling. As you entered there was the scent of old books withthe promise of ancient knowledge for those who would dig. All of it,free to the people. It was a hallowed and solemn place. For a time, I would go there every week or two. The subject I wasinterested in those days was propulsion units. This caught theattention of a particular research librarian who set herself on thehunt for me. I would stop by her desk to pick up her list ofreferences and the bundle of photocopies she had collected for mefrom the latest journals and sometimes even restricted governmentresearch. She was brilliant. And beautiful. When there was occasionto come around the desk, I could catch the faint flowery springtimeperfume of my librarian mingled with the scent of fresh photocopiescopies on her desk. All of that with the bassnote of old books andleather that permeated the place. Those memories have not faded.I do have a confession though, it was not until very recently thatI realized that I am not the only one who has fantasies of theGoddesses who inhabit libraries. I'm not the only one who thinksintelligent women are sexy. Who knew? Joe Cocker sings ‘you canleave your hat on'. Well, as far as I'm concerned, you can leaveyour glasses on too. No doubt, the libraries were where myfascination with intelligent women began. And speaking of intelligent, interesting women. Our next story iswritten by Susannah Indigo. Susanna Indigo is a character in her ownright. She is, and has been for many years, a very active andprolific erotic short story author. She has edited many erotic shortstory anthologies. She founded in 1998 the erotic literary journalClean Sheets, which, in it's day, was a home to many great eroticwriters. She has since co-founded and is currently an editor at SlowTrains, a general literary journal that covers a wide range ofsubjects. Many of today's greatest writers have found a home there. The next story that I have for you, I read years ago and it...
