The boys revisits an event with a lot of connections to the recent 'Year of the Villain' at DC - "Underworld Unleashed!" Mark Waid and Howard Porter bring us into Hell, give us a compelling Captain Marvel story, and hinge a big piece of plot on landing 'meaty, leading rolls.'
Mike and Jeff finish their look at the Super books with an October 1995 cover date. Books include SUPERBOY #21, STEEL #21, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #74, LEGIONNAIRES #31, SHOWCASE '95 #10 and 11 and UNDERWORLD UNLEASHED #1!

Um.. this one... where to start.... It's one of those barely about the main story stories... So if you wanted a not quite the main plot of Underworld Unleashed and not quite the story of Trial of Superman man was this your book.

DeMatteis, Howard Porter, Angel Olivetti and more (one of whom has a brief cameo appearance here.) We also look at the 1995 card set SkyBox DC Villains: Dark Judgment and other related DC offerings. Justice's First Dawn: A Classic Justice League of America Podcast
I'm back from an Anniversary trip, and ready to talk some Justice League! Wait... That's right, this is my crossover episode with #BestEventEver for October, discussing the "Underworld Unleashed" event! Cool! What's on the buffet spread? ... Wait, what's this brown and smelly pile? "Extreme Justice" is the name of this dish? Oh well... Since no one else is looking at it... Witness the miracle of birth with a somewhat imaginary baby, gag at some of the worst excesses of 90's artwork, and hopefully agree that Firestorm is these issue's Snapper Carr! All this, plus a glimpse into what my reading priorities were in the 1995 and 1996 period! So if you don't want to wait until the Predator possesses you to do so, by all means leave me some feedback at justicesfirstdawning@gmail.com. And even in this mess of an episode, thanks for listening!

I'm thrilled to once again participate in what's become a fun annual tradition, the #BestEventEver blog/podcast team-up! For the past 3 years, a loose confederation of comics bloggers & podcasters has gotten together to jam on one of DC Comics' annual x-over events - and this year, we've decided to dig deep into 1995's Underworld Unleashed! The villains of the DCU got a chance to shine during this event, and some pretty interesting match-ups came about between the villains & some unfamiliar opponents throughout the DC line. Case in point, on of the 2 stories I'll be recapping & commenting on: retired Golden Age hero, Ted Knight (formerly Starman) takes on infrequent Batman foe, Dr. Phosphorus in Starman #13. And in one of the stories in the 12th issue of the anthology, Showcase '95, Starman-cast member, The Shade, is confronted by the primary antagonist of Underworld Unleashed, Neron! If you're interested in taking the plunge with us, I encourage you to:Download this episode HERE!And please be sure to check out further Underworld Unleashed coverage at these fine sites:Relatively Geeky Podcast Network Resurrections: An Adam Warlock/Thanos Podcast The RetroistChrisIsOnInfiniteEarthsCosmic TreadmillThe Pop Culture PalaceRolled Spine's Diana Prince: Wonder Woman PodcastThe Idol-Head of DiaboluJustice's First DawnComic Reviews by WaltJustice Trek: The Podcast Scroll down to see a few images from these issues below, and check out previous episodes of I'm the Gun on iTunes & Google Play! Greetings, soul-laden mortals! In this episode, naive bargainers Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) kick off 2018's #BestEventEver crossover occurrence, when they read Mark Waid and Howard Porter's Underworld Unleashed #1, published by DC Comics in 1995! After the creators' bios, our misguided dabblers in the occult sift through every moment of this issue. Later, they look at other incarnations of the Dark Lord that have appeared in comics since the very beginning! There's no need to panic about this episode, you have nothing to lose...except for your soul! So if that's the sort of thing that would bother you, then yeah, go ahead and panic. Espera. ¿Underworld qué?

On this episode of Reboot Review, I'll be providing a recap and commentary to the 2 Legion-related issues tying into DC Comics' 1995 line-wide x-over event, Underworld Unleashed!21 years ago, the villains of the DCU were unleashed (as the name suggests) on the earth - and on the timestream! This event - where heroes took on some unfamiliar foes - provided some interesting match-ups, not the least of which was the Legion facing off against old Atom enemy, Chronos! In these issues we also see the (near) return of the timelost XS, and the introduction of a couple of important supporting characters. Shag and Stella Season 2 begins here! After an explanation of what a crossover between BTO and “Friends” would look like, Shag and I talk about the Underworld Unleashed miniseries and then review the tie-in issue Patterns of Fear #1. We also review the Elseworlds story Brotherhood of the Bat before I tackle some listener […]
Happy Friday everyone and welcome back to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the podcast that isn't afraid to put out a show without the proper amount of research. Specifically, when in Green Lantern #71 you see a cover depicting Kyle and the Bat-Signal , you would obviously think Batman plays prominently in the book. Well, aside from asking Kyle to "SWEAR TO ME!!!", you would be pretty wrong. But Alan Scott is in the book, and he's dealing with the reprocussions of Underworld Unleashed making his wife all hot and stuff, so there is that. Over in Guy Gardner we get OH MY GAWD,WHAT HAPPENED TO GUY ON THE COVER?!? Wow, the nineties are in effect there, but thankfully, the story by Beau Smith is much better, with Guy, Buck and the crew tussling with Gorilla Grodd and his pack of Cyber-Apes...Okay, well the story is very nineties as well, but it's Beau FREAKING Smith, so it embraces the excess of the decade and has fun with it. And as an extra special bonus, I'm joined by podcasting genius Tom Panarese, host of Taking Flight:A Robin and Nightwing Podcast and Pop Culture Affidavit, who thought he would have a long discussion about Robin meeting up with Green Lantern. Sadly, we talked more about the awkward humor of Guy's mother. It wasn't the best. But having Tom on the show was, and I know you will love it all. So unless you want more monkey-spanking references in the show, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello most excellent ones, and welcome to another episode of Just One of the Guys, the only podcast that doesn't fall into the trap of making Bill and Ted references with the episode title. Okay, I guess I did just then, mea culpa. But favorite numbers aside, this issue brings us another tale from crossover event, Underworld Unleashed, with Kyle Rayner having to fight against Purgatory. No, not the eternal waiting room of Catholics who died without confessing that they enjoyed that aforementioned number (venial sins folks), but the amplified villain that Kyle gave ring construct legs to. How's that for gratitude? Plus Donna gets to meet the people that live in Kyle's apartment building, including Allison, who just so happens to have been showering as the Purgatory attack began. ... ... Sorry, I was thinking about Allison and the episode number (Note to self; go to confession soon). Over in Guy Gardner, we get...more temptation, in the form of sultry model Martika, who graces the cover in a very...engaging pose. But it's not all hubba hubba this issue, as Tiger Man, Veronna, and Hooker Jem (Arisia) scour the sewers for the Earthworm and the partons of the Warriors Bar that he captured last issue. And surprisingly, there are alligators in the sewers, so some urban legends are actually true. All of this, plus listener feedback! So if you want to hear about mulleted villains who might actually be the devil, I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello fair listeners, and welcome to the beginning of a new era for Just One of the Guys. Due to contract negotiations with the DiManziCorp of Milan, Italy, the show has been bought out and I've moved to the brand new Two True Freaks website. But despite the new ownership, you'll still be getting the fine quality programming that you've come to expect from this show...... ... Okay, you'll get me yammering on about Green Lantern comics. In fact, this week's comic is another couple of crossovers dealing with the Underworld Unleashed story that ran throught all the DC comics at this time. In Green Lantern we get a meeting with an amped up Batman villain, Kyle and Donna getting snuggly, and the resolution of what happened to the guy Kyle gave ring construct legs to (Spoilers...He becomes evil). In Guy Gardner, we get cameos by Darkstar Colin Ferrell, Evil Star, Neron, and John Stewart, who Guy tries to kill...maybe. It was kind of a deal with the devil thing that was going on during this crossover. All of that, and more Fabio references, so that's something to look forward to. So unless you want a taste of Guy's "Spank Ray", I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and get to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks! Hello faithful listeners, and welcome to episode 67 of Just One of the Guys. It's week five of our "Co-Host-A-Palooza" Month and we're ending the month by rocking you like a hurricane with the sonic symphony of destruction of...Sonar. But wait, it's not the C-List GL villain from the Hal Jordan run, but the spandex wearing, hair metal coifed version from the 1990's, and only Green Lantern Kyle Rayner and his best friend Wally West, a.k.a. The Flash can take him down. Over in Guy Gardner, we get the first of our Underworld Unleashed crossovers as Guy comes back to reclaim what is his. But this isn't the Guy we all know and love, it's the evil clone from the "Yesterday's Sins" story arc, and to add to the mayhem, Underworld enhanced baddies Earthworm, the Cheetah, and...Blackguard (*SIGH*) show up to engage in some mcfightenstein. And once again, I'm delighted to be joined by Dave Walker, host of Flash Legacies, who is going to help me figure out exactly which lead singer of Warrant Sonar is supposed to be. As well as letting me know what words require an extra "U" placed in them. So, unless you want close up images of Sonar's crotchular region (it's a word, I checked Urban Dictionary), I suggest you grab your mp3 player of choice, download the show, and start to listening!Feedback for this show can be sent to: justoneoftheguyspodcast@gmail.comJust One Of The Guys is a proud member of the Two True Freaks!
