Gal Gadot is back as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman in this superhero sequel set in 1984 – as the title of the movie suggests. Directed once again by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 (or WW84) is the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman and the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe – based of course on the DC Comics character of the same name. Wonder Woman 1984 is unique in that after months of delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was released simultaneously in theatres and digitally on the steaming service HBO Max. Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) lives quietly among mortals in the vibrant, sleek 1980s – an era of excess driven by the pursuit of having it all. Though she has come into her full powers, she maintains a low profile by curating ancient artifacts, and only performing heroic acts incognito. But soon, Diana will have to muster all her strength, wisdom, and courage as she and Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) find themselves squaring off against Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah (Kristen Wiig).

To celebrate our both running again, Angela has an opening cameo to foreshadow her continuing appearances in a series of Cheetah-centric episodes to tide you over while Wonder Woman 1984 keeps being delayed. Podcast: The Mystery of Nubia By all indications, 2017 needs a podcast dedicated to Queen Hippolyta's "second," "other," "dark" daughter who debuted on November 7, 1972 in Wonder Woman #204, so we're "Introducing Nubia!" The soul sister of the Amazing Amazon went on to appearances in Wonder Woman #205-206, including a solo back-up story, plus cameos in Supergirl #9 and The Super Friends #25 before vanishing from comics entirely for twenty years (and actually closer to a quarter century if you discount a single page of one of those comics.) Despite barely escaping 1973 in comics, Nubia managed to make appearances on television and in toy form when that was an extremely rare accomplishment, and her origin has a massive impact on Wonder Woman's own. Nubia was a contender, and we argue that she still matters 45 years later on this episode! Nubia is one of the least heralded but most valuable creations of Robert Kanigher, and possibly his single most important contribution across twenty years as a writer/editor of the Amazing Amazon (depending on how much credit you extend him on Wonder Girl.) The world is still waiting for Nubia to be fully embraced as a key component of Amazonian lore! For more on Nubia, check out my 2012 article on her, newly revised with fresh scans to replace the busted embeds Comicvine left me with. Podcast: A Final Adventure of Wonder Woman (1985) This episode finally, irrevocably breaks from its previous incarnation as a podcast! A seasonal/bi-annual show no more! No longer only coming out only when an issue of Wonder Woman '77 corresponds with the episode number! This edition, we cover an entire story arc, encompassing the entire (very brief) run of Wonder Woman's first female writer, Mindy Newell! That's "Tropidor Heat" & "A World in Chaos!" & " To Everything a Season..." from Wonder Woman #326-328 (July-December, 1985) plus the concluding 48-page story of the original volume, "Of Gods and Men," written by Gerry Conway! Don Heck draws most of this swan song to the Pre-Crisis Amazing Amazon, with a little help from Pablo Marcos. We also read excerpts from magazine articles and letters columns contemporaneous to the end of this era, and look forward to the next, which signals the changes coming to this show in celebration of the 75th anniversary year! In the meantime, do check out Wonder Woman: Warrior for Peace: A podcast that explores the history of Wonder Woman on page and screen. It's currently five episodes deep chronologically covering the Golden Age, Iron Age, New 52, and 1970s TV show! SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS is based on one of the Brothers Grimm collection-of-folk-tales, and follows a beautiful young princess, Snow White. Her stepmother is the evil queen, and she is jealous of Snow White’s beauty and irked by the blossoming attraction between Snow White and a handsome young prince. An attempt by the queen to have Snow White killed causes Snow White to flee into the forest where she befriends the animals --the squirrels and birds and deer -- and seven lovable dwarfs with silly names that match their personalities. Snow White and the seven dwarfs have a great time singing and dancing with the animals, until the evil queen hatches yet another devious plot... James and Lara are joined by Audience of One Susan Eisenberg, a voiceover superstar who is well-known for her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman on the animated series, THE JUSTICE LEAGUE. Is this animated film one for kids? Susan and Lara comment on how it was much darker than they remembered when they saw it as young girls. Is a kiss from a handsome prince the answer to all of life's problems? What was unique about a soundtrack being released for the film? And which German expressionist horror film was a big influence on SNOW WHITE? After watching this classic, you might find yourself whistling while you heigh-ho your way to work and wait for your prince to come...

It's fight night!  In a follow up to our first episode, Brian, John, and Elaine dissect "The Chipotle Burrito of Superhero Movies"; Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.  Can Zack Snyder competently lead the DC Cinematic Universe with the introduction of the Justice League or are we facing a massive cinematic abortion? News in Movies! Garry Shandling Dead at 66- RIP Brian, John and Elaine pay tribute to the unique comedy of Garry Shandling. Batman v Superman Broke Hanz Zimmer Hanz Zimmer, the composer whose notable scores include The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, and others decides to quit the superhero game after concluding work on Batman v Superman. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Key Points Jam packed full of crap The movie ultimately is jam packed full of so much fan service and plot threads that it becomes difficult to follow the narrative of the film. Inconsistent performances Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot do a decent job at portraying a brooding Bruce Wayne/Batman and a warrior Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. Jesse Eisenberg, while portraying a different kind of Lex Luther, comes off as a poor man's Heath Ledger Joker. Amy Adams ultimately proves to be unneccesary to the film with little for her character to do amongst superheros, megalomaniac villians, meta humans, and Doomsday. Dear Zack Snyder: Lay off the Instagram Filter Please stop ruining beautifully shot visuals through a dark brown filter that makes it almost impossible to discern what the hell is happening on screen. Doomsday I thought this movie was about Batman vs Superman???? Way too early to bring out The Death of Superman storyline. Notable Movies Referenced   Connect with us!
