5️⃣ Five Shifts of True Revival + Reformation - SHIFT TWO: A Bigger Gospel with Josh Liem - Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus the Messiah's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where crowds laid cloaks and branches to welcome him as king. Less than a week later, the crowds crucify this Jesus, choosing to save another instead: Jesus-Barabbas. What kind of Jesus did they want? What kind of Jesus and gospel do we want? Join us to explore Jesus and the gospel that got him killed. Palm branches optional.-Matthew 21:1-13; 23:37-24:2-PALM SUNDAY, APRIL 2, 2023

Are you living a “Kingdom of God lifestyle” today, in a very real sense? Do you feel like growth, abundance, and victory are all a part of your community life and church experience? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar and Heath talk about how Jesus explained normal life and growth in the Kingdom of God. As more and more of us are starting, shifting to, and living in missional communities, we often wonder if we're “doing it right”. Does this work in every context for everyone? Do all missional communities grow and multiply? How much should this become a lifestyle versus a series of cooler meetings and hangouts? In This Episode You'll Learn: The true definition of a Missional Community defined. Caesar's story of a pretty rocky start to all of this
People love to give their opinions about how you're doing things… but sometimes the best way to care for others and yourself is to stop caring about what certain people think. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we look at the types of people you'll need to stop listening to in order to truly make disciples and live on mission. This will be refreshing! In This Episode You'll Learn: How our desire for acceptance is hard-wired into us from birth. Why what others say or think can often stop us from moving forward. The 3 types of people you may be listening to. Who specifically you need to STOP listening to! http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) https://everydaydisciple.com/listen () From this episode: “It's been said that people would care a lot less about what others think about them if they knew how little others think about them. And it's true: if you're worried about how you come across to someone you've just met or had a conversation with, keep in mind that they're probably doing the same thing.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. https://123lifeschool.clickfunnels.com/big-3-download () Download today's https://everydaydisciple.com/big3 (BIG 3 right now). Who's ‘in'... who's ‘out'… Are we really called to treat everyone like a part of the family? Or is this more of an expression of how we should try to live, primarily with other Christians? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we'll show you what scripture teaches and try and convince you that God wants you to treat everyone like they are part of your family. Treating others like they are family is an extension of the Good News. A place at your table is a place at our Heavenly Dad's table. Sharing your resources, home, and time is sharing all that God has poured into your life for your pleasure and for his glory. All of this so that the world would know, love, and trust Him. In This Episode You'll Learn: A Biblical outline of how God created humanity and sees all of his image-bearers. The distinction of what it means to be a “child of God”. What happens when we treat everyone like family and let God sort out where they'll spend their eternity. What to do if you were raised with a more “closed” view of family. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) https://everydaydisciple.com/listen () From this episode: “Like in the story of the prodigal son found in Luke, the younger brother never stopped BE-ing a son to the father (in reality), but he lived alienated and separated from the father because of his selfish and sinful choices. In this story we see the father rush to restore his son to full privilege and status within the family.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. https://123lifeschool.clickfunnels.com/big-3-download () Download today's https://everydaydisciple.com/big3 (BIG 3 right now). It seems that many Christians are bilingual... We speak in one normal, everyday language most of the time, but when it comes time to talk about religion, spirituality, or God, we break out our special “Christianese” language. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we'll talk about being more intentional (and careful) with the words we use when we talk about our faith. And we'll give you a better way forward! In This Episode You'll Learn: How the language we use as a church creates our culture. The Top 10 Christianese words or sayings deciphered. What our language communicates to those outside the Church. How we can grow in our own “gospel fluency” and begin to speak in clear, meaningful ways about our faith and what life as a Christian is all about. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) https://everydaydisciple.com/listen () From this episode: “The Bible and our Christian faith are all relevant… unless we shroud everything in insider language and weird terms that others can't understand or it puts them off. Jesus spoke in everyday language because he saw his relationship with his Father (and ours) as a normal part of life as a human. We can learn to put aside our cultural oddities and speak like Jesus spoke.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. https://123lifeschool.clickfunnels.com/big-3-download ()Download today's https://123lifeschool.clickfunnels.com/big-3-download (BIG 3 right now). Have you ever wondered what your average person–someone who has not grown up in the church–would think Jesus and the gospel are all about based on what they see, hear, and experience in your Sunday church service? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we'll talk about how the medium we often use on Sundays may be overshadowing the message we really want to share about Jesus, our Father, and his amazing kingdom. In This Episode You'll Learn: What some of our favorite activities at church are really saying to people. How close and yet so far off we can accidentally be in these things. Why our ‘good intentions' are not cutting it with the culture anymore. How much of what we do in our Sunday services are really confusing to people. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) https://everydaydisciple.com/listen () From this episode: "Assigned greeters, rowed seating, staging, lights and sound are all awesome...for a rock concert. But they may not be helping to show people what our heavenly Dad, his Son, and this life as Christians is really all about. A special few people who do most of the communication with little to no personal interaction or participation is NOT what the early church was experiencing together." Let's be honest: the life you lead isn't what you've always dreamt of. And maybe the person you've become isn't who you've always imagined. Her insights into who God made you to be are refreshing and may encourage you to reexamine a few things in your life. Born to Nigerian parents and raised in London, Jo brings a multi-cultural and international perspective to leadership. Sometimes these beliefs can limit our potential. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we'll talk about how you can identify and replace your limiting beliefs about discipleship and mission. It's time to start moving forward! Our relationship with God directly feeds into how we see our role as a parent. If we have a flawed theology regarding who God is and how he sees us, it creates a chain reaction of flawed decisions and actions in how we parent our children. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we look at a few radically different parenting styles. We'll reveal that while you might be well-intentioned, your parenting style may not be producing the type of outcomes in your children's life and heart that you ultimately desire. In This Episode You'll Learn: If you might be the “judgemental parent” or “legalistic parent” type. Several parenting styles that commonly flow from a flawed theology of God. When we talk about how mature our church is, we often think about age, structures, and programs. But the church is none of those; the Church is people. Are your people mature? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we talk about why your church isn't growing or maturing with our very special guest, Alan Hirsch. Alan is a leading voice in the missional movement of the Christian West and a heck of a great guy! In This Episode You'll Learn: A surprisingly simple “key” to unity and maturity found in Ephesians 4. How to view leadership and ministry through a biblical perspective. Missional living is messy. At times you'll wonder why things aren't easier, or why they're not moving faster. We will never accidentally disciple someone to maturity in Christ. Discipleship that brings the Gospel to bear in all of life must happen in the rhythms of normal life together. But we often confuse discipleship with being a strong witness of God's love and character to others. In this episode, we continue in our Conversations series. You'll hear a short conversation between two close friends as they take a few minutes to sit and chat about the differences between their proactive and reactive missional opportunities. Through the years we've seen Christians group themselves into 'holy huddles' that leave little room for new friends to join them in meaningful ways. That's not God's plan! In this episode, we continue in the Conversations series. You'll hear two different conversations: The first is a couple of friends who've been in a small group together for quite a while… and the second one is between some couples in a true missional community. They are very different conversations. Pay attention to who and what is the focus of their groups and life together. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why our traditional 'small groups' are not what God intended. 6 important distinctions between small groups and missional communities. God's amazing hope and desire for his family. This is not a fad or the latest church growth technique or a new name for small groups or cell groups. Most people cannot multiply or replicate what they experience on Sundays at a church service. If what we preach, and teach others cannot be reproduced immediately, over and over, then it will never lead to maturity, growth and multiplication. In this episode, we continue in the Conversations series. You'll hear a short but natural conversation between a couple of buddies who meet up at a cafe. They end up talking about a pretty common misperception connected to discipleship that a lot of us were taught in church, and maybe, still hold onto today. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why it's critical we have all 3 "legs of the stool" in our churches. How your discipleship process may be missing a key ingredient. Why one-to-one discipleship does not lead to maturity. Over the last three weeks, 1st incision has presented the main talks from the 2021 CMF National Conference on 24 April. In last week's episode, Mark Greene of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity looked at how we can live as a whole-life disciples of Jesus, shaping the culture in the everyday world. In this, the final talk in the series, he asks why we so often think that what we do in our homes, workplaces, at the school gate, and in our neighbourhood does not matter to God? Why do we have a hierarchy of what counts 'spiritual' work in our minds? Drawing from Colossians 1:15-20 & 3:17, 23-24, Mark Greene explores what it means to be a disciple of Christ in the mundane, day-to-day aspects of our lives. Not all of the Bible is the Gospel. But if we properly understand the Gospel it affects everything. It is essential that the good news of Jesus is not only allowed to affect how we live though, it must be proclaimed so that people can hear it and choose whether or not they are ready to hear and receive it. The gospel must also always answer BOTH questions: "What must I do to be saved?" and "What hope is there for the world?" Anything that only answers one of these questions is too small of a gospel.

Missional community life can be tricky and hard to sustain. Leading missional communities can seem even harder to navigate. How do you determine if you are like-minded enough to lead with another person or couple? How do you get started? This week on the Lifeschool Podcast, we’re gonna teach you how to determine who you should lead a missional community with and what should happen when you don’t agree on things. When discussing leadership within new or existing missional communities, there are two roads we need to look at: 1. working with leaders you’ve developed and they too are now leading with you, and 2. putting a new team of leaders together. In This Episode You’ll Learn: What missional community (MC) leadership looks like. How MC leaders can build stronger relationships outside of a weekly meeting. The best ways to bring up conflict as leaders and how to deal with it. Getting leaders on the same page as to “what the mission is” that we are on. How practicing the 23 “one-anothers” found in scripture is key to healthy leadership. (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) From this episode: “God shows his grace on Earth through people, and leaders show others God’s grace and what it looks like to know and live out the good news of the Kingdom in every area of life. It seems that many Christians are bilingual... We speak in one normal, everyday language most of the time, but when it comes time to talk about religion, spirituality, or God, we break out our special “Christianese” language. This week on the Lifeschool Podcast, we’ll talk about being more intentional (and careful) with the words we use when we talk about our faith. And we’ll give you a better way forward! Christianese is sort of this made up language that Christians have been taught and now use… A LOT! Some of it is pretty weird, and most of it is unnecessarily confusing and a put-off to those who don’t know this very special language… In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why many of us use Christianese and how we’ve learned it. The Top 10 Christianese words or sayings deciphered. What our language communicates to those outside the Church. How we can grow in our own “gospel fluency” and begin to speak in clear, meaningful ways about our faith and what life as a Christian is all about. (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) From this episode: “The Bible and our Christian faith are all relevant… unless we shroud everything in insider language and weird terms that others can’t understand or it puts them off. Jesus spoke in everyday language because he saw his relationship with his Father (and ours) as a normal part of life as a human. We can learn to put aside our cultural oddities and speak like Jesus spoke.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Who’s ‘in’... who’s ‘out’… Are we really called to treat everyone like part of the family? Or is this more of an expression of how we should try to live, primarily with other Christians? This week on the Lifeschool Podcast, we’ll show you what scripture teaches and try and convince you that you should treat everyone like they are part of your family. After all… you get too! Treating others like they are family is an extension of the Good News. A place at your table is a place at our Heavenly Dad’s table. Sharing your resources, home, and time is sharing all that God has poured into your life for your pleasure and for his glory. All of this so that the world would know, love, and trust Him. In This Episode You’ll Learn: A Biblical outline of how God created humanity and sees all of his image-bearers. The distinction of what it means to be a “child of God”. What happens when we treat everyone like family and let God sort out where they’ll spend their eternity. What to do if you were raised with a more “closed” view of family. (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) From this episode: “Like in the story of the prodigal son found in Luke, the younger brother never stopped BE-ing a son to the father (in reality), but he lived alienated and separated from the father because of his selfish and sinful choices. In this story we see the father rush to restore his son to full privilege and status within the family.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Church doctrines of grace and salvation, in some cases, may actually prevent us from creating an expectation that we are to be and make disciples. Do our existing models of evangelism and discipleship fail to produce true followers of Jesus? This week on the Lifeschool Podcast, we dive into the importance of recovering a robust view of the gospel and taking seriously the connection between conversion and discipleship with Bill Hull, a “discipleship evangelist” (I love that term!) who’s the author of a bunch of bestselling discipleship classics. A person can profess to be a Christian and yet still live under the impression that they don’t need to actually follow Jesus. Being a follower and disciple is seen as an optional add-on, not a requirement. It is a choice, not a demand. Being a Christian today, unfortunately, has little connection with the biblical idea that we are formed into the image and identity of Christ. In This Episode You’ll Learn: A historical definition of “conversion” that you’ll find clarifying. Why conversion and discipleship are two sides of the same coin. The problems the Church experiences because they’ve split (or ignored) these two functions. Why having a bigger view of the gospel is the solution to this problem. (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450) From this episode: “You’ll never make a disciple from a non-discipleship gospel. Imagine your pastor addressing the congregation's growing waistlines from the pulpit. Or your faith community helping you heal your fears and past hurts. Is Christianity only about our spiritual health, or does the Gospel speak to mental and physical health as well? In this episode of the Lifeschool Podcast, we talk about the beautiful results of having and believing in a more holistic gospel... One that speaks into all of life: mind, body, and soul. It can seem scary at first to lovingly address the health of others. But we live in a world that is literally sick and dying for a greater love to show up and offer hope. Will you allow the gospel to bring you into those places in others lives? In This Episode You'll Learn: How the overarching story of God's interaction with mankind in the Bible is completely holistic in nature. Jesus' surprisingly succinct and holistic explanation of the Law and Commandments. Why having a more holistic experience of the gospel sends us out on mission. How caring for yourself is often necessary when caring for others. Practical steps to begin caring for your physical, spiritual, and mental health (in light of the gospel) right now. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 () The gospel addresses and redeems ALL areas of life. Have most of us Christians given up on traditional forms of sharing our faith? Let's be honest… It's scary to risk things relationally, and the results are often disappointing. In this episode of the Lifeschool Podcast, we talk about the ways that many Christians experience (or avoid) evangelism. And we ask the question: Is evangelism changing in the church today? Many people still associate evangelism with a Billy Graham approach, door-to-door soul winning, or strategic speeches that “share the Gospel”. But what if the biblical precedent was more of a normal day-to-day rhythm? In This Episode You'll Learn: What “evangelism” really is and what it looked and sounded like in the Bible. Why evangelism and discipleship were never meant to be two separate activities or practices. How discipleship must include ongoing evangelism for Believers and unbelievers alike. Your responsibility when it comes to evangelism. How the Good News of the gospel speaks into all of life...not just our ‘sin problem'. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 () Jesus came to save the world, not condemn it. Our fractured world, in its divisions, conflicts and broken relationships, needs a bigger gospel. There is good news, so join us for our first sermon of 2018, returning to our journey through the book of Romans.
Executive Director Gordon Zwirkoski from 5Stone Churches shows us from Philippians 1 that there is a lot more to the Gospel than just evangelism.
For many of us our Christianity and faith is focused primarily on our afterlife. And we spend years wondering, “Is this all there is to THIS life? Is this all that Jesus came to give us here and now?” The answer is an emphatic NO! What we need is a much bigger understanding of the gospel, one that touches every part of our lives. How does the gospel speak into our marriages and parenting, our finances and identity? Is there good news about my job and time management in there too? Well there is, and we can grow in our ability to naturally and confidently speak, live and enjoy the gospel in every area of life. I call this Gospel Fluency. In This Episode You'll Learn: How the gospel really affects every area of our lives A simple 4-Question process for applying the gospel to any situation, emotion or circumstance Why what we believe to be true about God ultimately shapes how we view ourselves How we can change our response to another person or situation by changing our beliefs How Caesar unpacks a real life situation with Heath and applies the gospel to his heart http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...)http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 () When you have a bigger gospel you'll develop the confidence and grace to speak the truth in love–first to yourself–and then with others in a way that is truly good news.
