HOW TO LEAD INCLUSIVELY - IS IT A TRICK QUESTION? “It is an observation as a leader that humans are emotive creatures. Humans desire affirmation, appreciation and acknowledgment. Leaders who practice these things, inherently practice what would truly fit the definition of inclusivity. The idea that leaders must look for anomalies, uniqueness of characters, outliers in thought or behavior to offer specific, additional attention and affirmation strikes me as detour from the simplest of good character traits. Treat EVERYONE the way you want to be treated. If leaders do this, inclusivity is the natural result not a program which needs launched with millions of dollars and government policies.” J Loren Norris LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SERIES Watch the video 4-24-24: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/j-loren-norris/episodes/HOW-TO-LEAD-INCLUSIVELY---IS-IT-A-TRICK-QUESTION-e2iqoh8 FREE STORYPOWER LESSON https://j-loren-s-school.thinkific.com/pages/free-lesson-offer Follow on Spotify - https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/j-loren-norris Book A Call with Loren: https://www.jotform.com/form/230026062279046 ______________________________ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/j-loren-norris/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/j-loren-norris/support

In sales, act like everyone might buy something from you. Whether you think you're a salesperson or not, you're either good or bad at it—no escaping. Treat everyone like a potential buyer until they show otherwise. A story about Suit Supply shows how they didn't try to sell me a suit because I was dressed casually. They missed a chance to make a sale. So, always treat everyone like they could be a buyer until you find out otherwise. Show Notes: [09:24]#1 When you are a salesperson, your job is to treat every person you deal with as if they are a buyer of every single thing that you are selling until they demonstrate to you clearly and unequivocally that they are not a buyer. [16:53]#2 Conformity. [25:41]#3 Your job as a salesperson is not to gauge, guess, assume, or decide for another person what they have access to, what they will buy or what they value. Irma (pronounced Ear-ma) Herrera is a civil rights lawyer turned playwright and solo performer, and she uses storytelling and theater to open hearts and minds. After three decades of working in pursuit of fairness and justice, she turned her attention to storytelling on stage. This work is an extension of her social justice advocacy, and she uses the skills developed as a lawyer to explore themes of othering and belonging. Her one-woman show “Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name?” is a work of creative nonfiction that is a mashup of personal narrative, lessons in American history, and stories about respecting people's names, even when they don't sound and look like “real” American names. In episode 433 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out when Irma noticed her love of languages, why she decided to attend Notre Dame Law School, where she got the idea for her one-woman show called "Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name?", how the Muslim ban, the racializing of COVID-19 and the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans, and laws targeting trans youth are all related, why she believe that her multiple identities are indivisible, and what we can do to create organizations that treat everyone with respect and dignity. Enjoy!

Who's ‘in'... who's ‘out'… Are we really called to treat everyone like a part of the family? Or is this more of an expression of how we should try to live, primarily with other Christians? This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we'll show you what scripture teaches and try and convince you that God wants you to treat everyone like they are part of your family. Treating others like they are family is an extension of the Good News. A place at your table is a place at our Heavenly Dad's table. Sharing your resources, home, and time is sharing all that God has poured into your life for your pleasure and for his glory. All of this so that the world would know, love, and trust Him. In This Episode You'll Learn: A Biblical outline of how God created humanity and sees all of his image-bearers. The distinction of what it means to be a “child of God”. What happens when we treat everyone like family and let God sort out where they'll spend their eternity. What to do if you were raised with a more “closed” view of family. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1209249450 (Get started here...) https://everydaydisciple.com/listen () From this episode: “Like in the story of the prodigal son found in Luke, the younger brother never stopped BE-ing a son to the father (in reality), but he lived alienated and separated from the father because of his selfish and sinful choices. I've been pondering a quote lately from my favorite Dostoevsky book, The Brothers Karamazov, which reads, "we ought to treat everyone like little children, and most importantly ourselves." It got me thinking about the way we are with our children - how loving, patient, lighthearted and encouraging we are when we're parenting these tiny little humans. Why can't we be this way with everyone in our lives, especially ourselves? How incredible would the world be if we could remember to treat one another with this same level of tenderness and also extend this grace inwardly to ourselves? Don't treat everybody the same. Don't put them all on the same email list. Now, this is a big mistake that a lot of us make when we first start off with list building. We put everybody all on one list and give them the same experience. And when we first get started, that's naturally what we do because we might not have a very big list. But as you slowly start to build your list, you need to think about the different experiences that you want your audience to have and where they're at on the customer journey. If you group everyone on one list and treat them all the same, then there's going to be some people that tune out and some people that feel that you're not really listening to them and what their needs are. I want you to think about that list that you have. How can you segment it out to really give each person on that list an individualized experience? “Treating everyone as remote is to keep everyone in mind as having the same level, same equality, the same access to information in communication exchanges between people." James Stanier is the author of “Effective Remote Work” and Director of Engineering at Shopify. In this episode, James shared insights from his latest book and began by sharing why remote work is here to stay and the basic setup for remote work. He then talked about the importance of managing our time and energy and establishing team norms for successful remote work. James then explained about the concept of treating everyone as remote, which led to the discussion about producing more artifacts and balancing between synchronous and asynchronous working style. We also extended the discussion on how one can become a more effective manager in the remote setup, including how to manage up and allocating time for team bonding and fun activities. Towards the end, James shared how we can self-assess our remote working practices by using the 12 questions in his book, and how remote is the path to equality and can become a great leveler for everyone. Welcome to another episode of S*%! People Say! Today, we're talking about what you can learn about someone from the way they treat others. I really hate it when people treat others poorly because they think someone is beneath them… And it's almost worse when people treat someone better than others because they think that person has some power over their situation. In personal and professional relationships, it's important to remember that how you treat one person is how you treat everyone. We all have examples of people who have shown us their true colors, and in this episode, I share two recent stories about what I've learned from the way people have treated me and my team. Episode Highlights00:41 I think we have the tendency to give people a pass when they treat one person poorly but treat other people well. 03:04 In every business deal, there has to be a baseline of being respectful and kind. 04:01 Pay attention to anyone who treats power differently than they treat others—they're going to be a pain in the butt to work with. 04:54 People who are kind to everyone are kind to everyone. People who are unkind, even if it's to someone else, are likely to display that behavior towards you. It's about understanding our “embedded” theology, that which we grew up absorbing and believing, As we grow up and grow in faith, we often realize that what we're taught often doesn't relate to our life. The authors, Stone and Duke are seminary professors. They do a great job writing about how we are all theologians, whether we have a bunch of letters after our names or not. That's because we all must navigate our society, current events, and or daily life as people of faith. This is a great book for “evangelicals” and those who are “deconstructing” their faith. In this week's episode, I talk about how I intend to treat people - not only in my every day life but also here on the online space... because it's too easy to forget that the people we connect with digitally are real humans with real feelings and a right to dignity and respect. It's an important question to ask ourselves as our lives are increasingly woven with the world wide web.
