Directed by Gore Verbinski, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is the fantasy swashbuckler film produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and based on Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disney theme parks. Luke and Jae break out the rum and return to the high seas to sail the first installment in the Piratea of the Caribbean film series. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) arrives at Port Royal in the Caribbean without a ship or crew. His timing is inopportune, however, because later that evening the town is besieged by a pirate ship. The pirates kidnap the governor's daughter, Elizabeth (Keira Knightley), who's in possession of a valuable coin that is linked to a curse that has transformed the pirates into the undead. A gallant blacksmith (Orlando Bloom) in love with Elizabeth allies with Sparrow in pursuit of the pirates.
Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are here for a bonus movie podcast. This time they're talking about Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl for its 20th anniversary. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a fantasy adventure film directed by Gore Verbinski. It is based on the Disney theme park ride. The movie opened in theaters on July 9, 2003. In the film, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) seeks to reclaim his ship, the now cursed Black Pearl, from the treacherous Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Jack teams up with Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) when Barbossa abducts his love interest, Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). The Curse of the Black Pearl was the surprise hit of 2003, with the pirate genre considered unprofitable. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Actor in a Leading Role for Depp. The film spawned four sequels. Josh and Aaron discuss their first impressions of Pirates, before going into the plot, performances, action, and effects. They also talk about the future of the franchise. For another pirate film podcast, you can listen to Aaron and Josh's Muppet Treasure Island retrospective. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is streaming on Disney+.
AVAST! Join Connor, Matt and Frank as they journey back to ye olde 2003 to discuss the original (and - let's be honest - only good) Pirates of the Caribbean film. Load the cannons...and the episode. And let the adventure begin. The story follows pirate Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) as they rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightley) from the crew of the Black Pearl, captained by the evil Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Barbossa's crew attempts to retrieve the final pieces of a hoard of Aztec gold to break the curse laid on them when they stole it. We chat the rocky seas that were swashbuckling movies of the 90s/00s as well as the iconic performance of Jack Sparrow (and what makes it not work the following four times he tries this). And don't miss our unnecessarily overly-detailed breakdown of how much the Pirates score "borrowed" from other movies that came before it (45:52). So pour your finest rum, don your best tricornered hat, sit back under the Caribbean sun, and join us as we sail the high seas in style.
Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, William Thrasher and very special guest Alexander Miller (Producer of The Trailer Project) discuss Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), and Captain Blackbeard (Ian McShane) all try to track down the Fountain of Youth. To get there, they will have to find hidden treasure, trick deadly mermaids, and avoid a Spanish Armada. Inspired by the Tim Powers novel On Stranger Tides (itself an inspiration for the classic Monkey Island computer game series), this flick tries to be a soft reboot and instead just sits there on the silver screen with no real sense of purpose. Things start off with flourish as Captain Jack poses as a Judge, runs through the streets of London, and battles a doppelganger. A heavy quest structure bogs down the rest of the story which lumbers along with a handful of milquetoast characters. Mat loves the super detailed production histories in the recent tome Jim Henson: The Biography by Brian Jay Jones. Alexander digs the Abel Ferrara vampiric drug allegory The Addiction, but was less impressed with the recent Dick Cheney biopic Vice. Thrasher likes the recent meme spawning Netflix feature Bird Box. The next few movie series we'll be covering are: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) The Fugitive (1993) U.S. Marshals (1998) Waxwork (1988) Waxwork 2: Lost in Time (1992) Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page The theme song to the Sequelcast is written and performed by Marc with a C. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) takes a crew of pirates to rescue Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from a bizarre underworld. Now in possession of Davey Jones' (Bill Nighy) heart, the East India Trading Company uses his tentacled help to start their final assault to get of pirates once and for all. Finishing up the half dozen plot threads from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, this third film in the series has a more confident story and pace. A concept of Pirate Lords from around the globe helps freshen up the franchise, as does a large scale battle between pirate ships in the midst of a supernatural storm. Mat enjoys the cinematography and deliberate pacing of Unbreakable, the first film in M. Night Shyamalan's superhero trilogy. Thrasher was amused by Mighty Orbots, a short-lived animated Transformers knock-off from the 1980s. The next few movie series we'll be covering are: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) The Fugitive (1993) U.S. Marshals (1998) Follow the show on Twitter @Sequelcast2 Like our Sequelcast 2 Facebook Page The theme song to the Sequelcast is written and performed by Marc with a C. In our 54th episode, we first question as a podcast why people do it. Then we see the ever gross Captain Jack Sparrow ( Johnny Depp ) in his never ending fight against the undead in Dead Mans Chest. Disney drew up some questionable scenes of possible pirate ravaging and a father son relation ship between the ever so idiotic Turner ( Orlando Bloom ) bloodline that makes you question how smart anyone in these movies can actually be. Listen as we break down, brutally joke on, and parody the movie's plot and the characters, as well as give each of our scores out of 10. Listen to the previous released movies in our Pirates of the Caribbean series where we talk about Curse of the Black Pearl (Ep.53), Dead Men Tell No Tales (Ep. 52). Subscribe and be sure check out all our previous episodes on all the movies in Fast and the Furious (Ep. 44-51), X-Men (Ep. 33-43), Star Wars (Ep. 24-31), Harry Potter (Ep. 15-23), and MCU(Ep.1-14) movie series'. Hit us up with how you feel about Dead Man's Chest or if you feel like Davey Jones should really do something about all that fungus. => Kino Tipp: Fluch der Karibik 2 - Kaptain Jack is Back! (Patrick) Der 3. Kinotipp beim RPG-Cast steht an.
