The work of Japanese avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama is famed for its use of dots and inspired the likes of Andy Warhol. She was a work of art herself, often photographed wearing a bright orange wig and technicolour clothes covered in her signature polka dots. But, behind the canvas Yayoi was suffering with her mental health and spent almost five decades living in a psychiatric hospital. Frances Morris, the former Director of Tate Modern, now chair of the Gallery Climate Coalition, curated a retrospective exhibition of Kusama's work.  The Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladić was jailed for life in 2017 for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. He was known as the "Butcher of Bosnia" and infamously ordered the death of thousands of men and boys in the town of Srebrenica in July 1995. The author and journalist Tim Judah met and interviewed Ratko Mladić and tells his story.When the actor Tim Curry slapped on full make up, donned fishnet stockings and corset and let loose his uniquely powerful voice, no one in the audience was ever going to forget meeting the Rocky Horror Show's Frank N Furter. Curry was born in Warrington in 1946 and his first acting job came after university in the original London production of the equally groundbreaking rock musical “Hair” in 1968. He was known also as the original Pennywise from Stephen King's "It”, the naturalist Nigel Thornberry in the much-loved children's series “The Wild Thornberrys”, and Long John Silver in the 1996 film “Muppet Treasure Island” alongside a young Kevin Bishop who recalls his experience of working with Tim Curry.Violet Hensley has died at the astonishing age of 109. She was one of the last surviving links back to depression-era America, she was also a luthier, or instrument maker, and a fine fiddle player. Her instruments were of such high quality that she became known as the “Stradivarius of the Ozarks”. Violet made her first instrument when she was 14, but four years later she got married and stopped performing and making fiddles while she raised nine children. After a thirty-year break, she started making music again. Season four adapts Lee Child's Gone Tomorrow and drops Reacher into an increasingly tangled political and intelligence conspiracy. Episode Summary After a misunderstanding turns Reacher into Philadelphia's most wanted man, he spends much of the episode doing what Reacher does best: escaping situations that should probably be impossible to escape. Meanwhile, Jacob, Tamara, and Plum recover the flash drive Anna mailed before her death, along with her phone, but their attempt to finally get some answers turns into a violent confrontation with Lila and Amisha. Jacob gets his first genuine opportunity to strike back at the people responsible for his sister's death. The recovered evidence also starts bringing the larger conspiracy into focus. A photograph connects Congressman Sampson to a disgraced Indonesian general, but Reacher suspects another person in the image may actually be more important to the mystery. Anna's phone also gives the group stronger evidence tying Lila directly to the killings. By the end, Reacher and Tamara's investigation leads them toward another confrontation while Jacob is taken hostage, leaving Tamara with a pretty awful decision to make. And this one definitely supports the subtitle vibe we were talking about: there's plenty of entertaining Reacher insanity here, but the season is getting increasingly dependent on everyone accepting some wildly convenient and increasingly ridiculous shit to keep the plot moving. What initially resembles an Earthbound murder mystery steadily exposes a much larger extraterrestrial conspiracy connected to the history of the Green Lantern Corps. Episode Summary Hal and John investigate a deadly shooting in an attempt to prove that an alien force was responsible, with their investigation increasingly pointing toward one of the Green Lantern Corps’ oldest mistakes: the Manhunters. The episode digs deeper into the mystery surrounding Rushville while separating Hal and John enough to develop both characters individually. Sheriff Kerry also reveals that she originally came from Gotham, quietly expanding the show’s connections to the larger DCU.And then the episode drops the considerably bigger comic-book bomb: Sinestro, played by Ulrich Thomsen. The imprisoned former Lantern is positioned almost like the show’s Hannibal Lecter, someone Hal doesn’t trust but may need because Sinestro understands both Hal and the threat they are facing better than almost anyone. This week on PodQuest we start things off talking about the 1996 classic Muppet Treasure Island for our latest book club. Then Chris spends a bit chatting about the Rook and Rose trilogy by M.A. Carrick, and then we wrap things up with Walnut's final thoughts on Doom The Dark Ages and some thoughts on what game he'll be jumping into next.
