Spring Cleaning – Toronto Maple LeafsThe Toronto Maple Leafs entered the 2025-26 season coming off a 108-point, first-place finish, but the loss of Mitch Marner, injuries, internal tension, and disappointing roster decisions sent the franchise in the opposite direction. Toronto missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2016, leading to the dismissal of General Manager Brad Treliving and serious questions about Craig Berube's future. Neil Smith and Vic Morren examine how the Maple Leafs' championship window slammed shut and why fixing the organization may take much longer than one offseason.IN THIS EPISODE:[00:00:00] The Maple Leafs are eliminated from playoff contention on April 2 after entering the season with high expectations following a 108-point campaign and a first-place finish in 2024-25.[00:00:25] The offseason trade of Mitch Marner creates an enormous offensive void. Toronto hopes Matthew Knies, Max Domi, Bobby McMann, and Nick Robertson can collectively replace Marner's production, but that offense-by-committee approach never develops.[00:00:50] Neil revisits his preseason concerns about the return for Marner and the overall construction of the roster. Even before the season began, he did not believe the Leafs were properly built for a deep playoff run.[00:01:10] Brad Treliving ultimately pays the price for the team's collapse. Neil emphasizes that Marner's value went far beyond his 100-point production because he was also one of Toronto's most dependable defensive forwards.[00:01:35] Auston Matthews' knee injury becomes another devastating setback. The Maple Leafs captain misses the final weeks of the season and faces a lengthy recovery following an injury suffered after leading the United States to Olympic gold.[00:02:00] Internal dysfunction contributes to the disappointing season. Neil points to tension between the coaching staff and management, along with widespread dissatisfaction over the direction of the team.[00:02:20] Craig Berube's coaching also comes under scrutiny. With Toronto missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade, questions immediately arise about whether he will return behind the bench.[00:02:40] The difficult relationship between Berube and William Nylander becomes one of the season's recurring storylines, with the two appearing to clash throughout much of the year.[00:03:00] Keith Pelley's role in hockey decisions is heavily criticized. Although Pelley insists he is not making the hockey decisions, Neil believes his public comments suggest otherwise.[00:03:25] Neil describes Pelley's leadership as “Buffoonery 101,” criticizing his statements about finding a data-focused general manager while simultaneously presenting opinions about the quality of Toronto's core.[00:03:50] Since taking control, Pelley has dismissed Brendan Shanahan, moved on from the Raptors' leadership, and remained highly visible as the Leafs' hockey operation deteriorated.[00:04:10] The next general manager inherits a deeply complicated situation. Toronto owns only six selections in the 2026 NHL Draft and has no picks in either of the first two rounds.[00:04:30] The Maple Leafs add an extra third-round selection through the Scott Laughton trade with Los Angeles and acquire another pick from Colorado in the Nicolas Roy deal.[00:04:50] Neil points out that the practical return from the Mitch Marner situation amounts to a fifth-round draft pick, a result he considers a major failure by the organization.[00:05:10] Toronto previously surrendered first-round picks in trades involving Laughton and Nikita Grebenkin, leaving the franchise with very little high-end draft capital returning in the other direction.[00:05:30] Many of the acquired selections do not arrive until 2027. If Colorado remains a contender, its pick will likely fall near the bottom of the round, while the picks Toronto traded away could become more valuable if the Leafs continue to struggle.[00:05:55] Neil expresses sympathy for Maple Leafs fans who have endured decades of disappointment. He believes the situation may become even more difficult before the franchise begins to recover.[00:06:15] Calle Järnkrok and Troy Stecher headline Toronto's unrestricted free agents, while Nick Robertson and Matias Maccelli are the notable restricted free agents requiring new contracts.[00:06:35] The episode concludes with a bleak assessment of Toronto's future. What once appeared to be one of the NHL's strongest championship windows now looks completely closed.[00:06:50] Neil does not simply believe the window is closing—he believes it has been slammed shut. The Maple Leafs now face a difficult organizational reset involving the front office, coaching staff, roster construction, and long-term direction.

Title: Boos, Ballots, Bailouts, and Buffoonery: The Desperate Gasp of a Crumbling Ego Hosts: Doug Pagitt and Robb Ryerse Listen Time: 42 minutes of pure, unvarnished reality Summary: The wheels aren't just coming off the MAGA wagon—they've bounced down the highway and caused a ten-car pileup. This week, Doug and Robb take a front-row seat to the latest, loudest public meltdown of Donald Trump, and honestly? It's a trainwreck you can't look away from. First up, the guys dissect the absolute embarrassment of his recent press interview. Watching Trump completely lose his mind under standard, baseline journalistic scrutiny wasn't just bad politics; it was a masterclass in fragile panic. It turns out that when you can't hand-pick the reporters or script the questions, actual accountability is a totally undefeated opponent. Then, we're heading to Madison Square Garden—because nothing says "man of the people" quite like getting thoroughly booed out of a Knicks game. What happens when a man who survives entirely on heavily curated, ego-stroking rallies steps into a real-world sports arena? A thunderous, highly localized reality check. We unpack that beautiful, unfiltered chorus of boos and why everyday Americans are completely done buying the snake oil. Finally, Doug and Robb tackle the exhausting, broken-record delusion of "stolen elections." We contrast his desperate, fictional grievances with the very real, unbelievably wasteful legacy of his time in office. Is the movement facing an irreversible decline, or are we just watching a cornered political grift double down on pure chaos? Join us for a candid, faith-rooted, and delightfully savage conversation about truth, accountability, and actual common sense. What We're Dragging This Week:  * The Interview Meltdown: Why a simple Q&A sent the fragile former guy into an absolute tailspin.  * The Garden Variety Rejection: Breaking down the Knicks game chorus of boos. Spoiler alert: regular people don't do fake.  * The "Stolen" Delusion: Deconstructing the pathetic rerun of false election claims that absolutely everyone outside of his echo chamber is tired of hearing.  * The Receipts on Waste: A look at the staggering, self-serving wastefulness of a leader who treated the public trust like a personal piggy bank. Love the show? Don't keep us a secret. Leave us a scathing review on Apple Podcasts, hit subscribe on Spotify, and talk some actual sense into your timeline using the hashtag #ComingGood. Let's clean up the public square together.

Hanoi Jane Emerges, Trump's 100 Days of Buffoonery and Outrage, and the New Anti-MAGA American PopeWelcome to episode forty-three of David & Stu… Unhinged! As always, we'd like to thank Clara Wang for creating the fantastic artwork for this podcast. In this episode, David and Stu cover the following:1) The Audubon Society, an organization Stu supports, awarded Jane Fonda for her environmental work, which caused Stu to boycott the event and consider a protest against her due to her traitorous behavior during the Vietnam War.2) Trump's insulting and outrageous proposal to rename Veterans Day, which was greeted with consternation by those who served their country in the military, unlike Trump, who evaded service by claiming he had bone spurs like the cowardly nepo baby he is.3) The election of Mike Carney as Prime Minister in Canada. Carney is a far-left candidate, and the conservative was expected to win. Instead, due to a Trump backlash over his calls for annexation, the Canadians revolted, indicating how weak Trump's influence is globally. Similar electoral results occurred in Australia, indicating how poorly the MAGA brand sells internationally, unlike Reagan, who brought his revolution to the world and won the Cold War.4) The ridiculous proposal by Trump to repurpose Alcatraz as a federal prison when it is basically in ruins and would require rebuilding and probably would be impractical to operate. This is another stunt that further indicates how weak his presidential leadership has been.5) Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, an American, was chosen as the new Pope Leo XIV, and he is not conservative either. In fact, he had previously condemned Trump's and JD Piglet's immigration policies. Meanwhile, Trump disrespected Catholic tradition at Francis' funeral and then posted an AI image of himself as Pope. Imagine what the liberal elite media would have done if he had posted himself as MLK or Mohammad. We welcome comments on our podcasts, which can be left on our website or any other platform you may be tuning in on.Connect with David & Stu:Email David & Stu: davidandstuunhinged@gmail.com and share your comments, concerns, and questions. We encourage all to visit our website (https://www.rageworksnetwork.com/show/david-stu-unhinged/) and please leave comments for our consideration.

Ganz's new book, When the Clock Broke, is a survey of political and cultural developments in the 1990s that gave rise to the sorts of resentments and grievances at work in the upcoming election.

Black holes could unlock the mysteries of creation and live at the heart of nearly every galaxy. But these invisible balls of extremely dense matter have never been fully understood, especially when they were only a theory. We travel through a cosmic wormhole back to the 1930s to learn how the first astrophysicist to successfully theorize a black hole, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, was ridiculed and rejected by his scientific community. This is the first episode of a two-part journey celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory's operation of the space telescope. Join us this summer for a cosmic journey full of events and virtual resources from around the Smithsonian that will transport you from our closest star, the sun, to the far reaches of the universe. Find the full schedule on our website, si.edu/cosmicjourney. Or follow along on social media @Smithsonian.Guests: Kim Arcand, Visualization Scientist and Emerging Tech Lead for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Priyamvada Natarajan, astrophysicist and professor at Yale University  Arthur I. Joshua, Jude, and Brendan are here to tell you - IT'S SPRING - so now the pod has sprung for the latest Notre Dame Football news (kind of). In this episode... Yeah... I'm not going to bulletpoint this week either. If I did, I might spoil the surprise that is this show. Somehow we covered all of the relevant points surrounding the Notre Dame football program which is highlighted by the recent hiring of Joe Rudolph as the new offensive line coach. Outside of that... things are pretty light, so this podcast might have its more than normal share of "other things" for you to enjoy. Well - maybe not you NDGrad76, but normal people will certainly appreciate this latest offering. As a bonus... we threw in some other Notre Dame winter/spring talk as well. Please RATE and REVIEW! As America celebrates the first black “woman” to be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court — even if Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson can't define what makes a “woman” — President Biden once again snags the spotlight with a gaffe. President Biden was trying to define America in a single word but took a turn and began explaining a time he was with Xi Jinping. Why do we keep tolerating Biden's buffoonery? Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was surprised when told by Charlemagne that black people are unhappy with the Democrats. Convicted felon Jussie Smollett dropped a new song in which he pleads his innocence, so Chad had to release a new song as well. NextEra Energy pleaded guilty to killing 150 bald eagles and was ordered to pay over $8 million in fines and restitution. Why is wind energy so deadly to birds? As the U.S. border crisis continues and this administration continues to ignore the problem, who's going to stand up and fight for America?
