Derrière chaque décision, chaque intuition, se cachent de petites distorsions invisibles — des biais cognitifs. Ils ne sont pas des erreurs en soi, mais des raccourcis mentaux, hérités de notre évolution, qui nous permettent d'aller vite… parfois trop vite.Le premier, c'est le biais d'optimisme. Il nous pousse à croire que tout ira bien, que les accidents n'arrivent qu'aux autres. C'est ce qui fait qu'on roule un peu trop vite, qu'on oublie d'économiser “parce qu'on a encore le temps”, ou qu'on pense qu'on ne se fera jamais avoir. Ce biais est profondément humain : il protège notre moral, mais fragilise notre lucidité.Vient ensuite le biais d'autorité. Depuis l'enfance, on nous apprend à obéir aux figures d'autorité : parents, professeurs, institutions. Résultat, lorsqu'une information vient d'une source perçue comme légitime, notre esprit critique s'endort. On croit un médecin, un expert, un uniforme — même quand ils se trompent. Ce biais explique pourquoi tant de décisions collectives reposent sur la confiance plus que sur la réflexion.Le troisième, c'est le biais de rareté. Notre cerveau préhistorique le connaît bien : ce qui est rare est précieux. Devant une offre limitée ou un objet “qu'il ne faut pas rater”, notre instinct de survie s'active. On agit vite, on achète, on s'engage — de peur de manquer. La rareté, qu'elle soit réelle ou fabriquée, déclenche une émotion plus forte que la raison.Le biais de réciprocité, lui, naît de notre nature sociale. Quand quelqu'un nous rend service, on veut rendre la pareille. C'est un ciment des relations humaines, mais aussi une faille : un simple geste, un cadeau, une attention, et nous voilà enclins à dire “oui” plus facilement. Notre gratitude devient une brèche dans notre jugement.Cinquième mécanisme : le biais de familiarité. Plus une chose nous est familière, plus elle nous semble sûre. C'est ce qui nous fait choisir une marque qu'on a déjà vue, une personne dont le visage nous rappelle quelqu'un, ou une idée déjà entendue. On pense souvent que les plus grandes menaces pour notre santé viennent de ce que l'on consomme : la cigarette, l'alcool, la malbouffe. Mais il existe un autre poison, plus discret, plus insidieux : la solitude. Elle ne brûle pas les poumons, n'encrasse pas les artères, et pourtant, elle use le corps et le cerveau aussi sûrement qu'un paquet de cigarettes par jour.En 2023, une vaste étude publiée dans JAMA Network Open a analysé les données de centaines de milliers de personnes à travers le monde. Les chercheurs ont découvert que l'isolement social augmentait de 32 % le risque de mortalité prématurée, et la solitude ressentie, de 14 %. En clair : vivre seul et se sentir seul, même entouré, peut raccourcir la vie.
