In this episode, we chat with Chris Duce (the host of a sex-positive podcast about religion and personal stories) and Kristin Bennion (a clinical social worker and certified sex therapist). We talk about the interactions between exploring one’s sexuality, defining one’s personal values, and undergoing a faith transition. Specifically, we focus on the ways in which sexuality can be a difficult thing to navigate in a post-Mormon context. We deconstruct Mormonism’s heteronormative/patriarchal approach to sex and gender; we discuss the power of consent; we articulate the struggle to navigate feelings of shame/inadequacy; and we stress the importance of finding accepting and open sources of support when our former structures, guidelines, and authorities no longer resonate. Chris and Kristin also give some helpful tips on how to maintain emotional/physical safety, how to foster healthy communication, and how to have love and compassion for yourself.
Welcome to Celestial Sex, hosted by Chris Duce and produced by Colin Hatch, where we have frank and open conversations about sex. This week we speak with Conor Hilton about being ace- or asexual- and an active Mormon. What is it like for someone who doesn't experience sexual attraction? How do they make sense of that in a religion that emphasizes procreation as a step toward Godhood? We cover all of that, and we catch up with Conor one year after we recorded the first part of his interview to find out how he's doing now. Our thanks to Conor for speaking with us! Conor's writing can be found on his blog at https://conorhilton.wordpress.com If you'd like to get in touch with us, please email celestialsexpodcast@gmail.com

This week we forego our typical interview and review the seminary film Godly Sorrow starring Aaron Eckhart with non-LDS comedian Thomas Ouellette. It begins with a Bishop's interview, and, well, you should watch it for yourself. Youtube Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQYHVabpvQc This might only be half of the video!
