What's Your Next Step? “A Vision for Spiritual Growth” John 15:1-8 Jesus casts a vision for a life of spiritual growth. He is the Vine. The Vine is the source of spiritual growth. The Father is the Gardener. He's actively working to help us bear fruit. We are the branches. We are made to bear fruit. Fruit is Christlikeness. (Fruit of the Spirit) Fruit is making disciples. Jesus casts a vision for the essential step of spiritual growth. You will only grow and bear fruit as you remain in Christ. ‘Remain' means ‘stay connected' to the Vine. We stay connected through the Word and Prayer. What's your next step in ‘staying connected'? Next Step Survey Action Plan for your stage Jesus casts a vision for four stages of fruitfulness. No fruit (could be compared to: Beginning in Christ) Some fruit (could be compared to: Young in Christ) More fruit (could be compared to: Maturing in Christ) Much fruit (could be compared to: Reproducing in Christ) Jesus casts a vision for the goal of bearing much fruit. God is working in your life to help you flourish. (He's the Gardener!) God is committed to do whatever it takes to produce the fruit of spiritual growth in your life. (lifting, pruning, etc.) What's your next step in “staying connected”? Core CHRISTlike Characteristic: Connected to God through the Word and Prayer

Listen to this episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts This is part one of a two part series refuting the opening statement of a debate on the question "Is Jesus Yahweh?" This week and next week we are taking a little break from our Early Church History class to do discuss a recent debate about Christ's identity. So, if you're not interested in that, just skip ahead two episodes and you can pick up on the class. But, since this debate just happened, I wanted to take a couple of episodes to respond while it's still fresh in people's memories. If you haven't listened it yet, you can watch it on YouTube or listen on Spotify. Just search "Is Jesus Yahweh debate." You'll find the Gospel Truth channel on YouTube or the Biblical Unitarian podcast episode 271 in your podcast app. But, even if you haven't yet listened to this debate, we are going to play out the audio and respond, so you should be able to follow along fine. Now this was a two on two debate between Dr. Dustin Smith and Pastor William Barlow who took the negative position "Jesus is not Yahweh" vs. Dr. Kyle Essary and Apologist Samuel Nesan who took the affirmative position that "Jesus is Yahweh." In this episode Brandon Duke of TruthBorn and I are going to perform a postmortem critique of the debate. We'll play out Dr. Essary's opening statement and respond to it. Of course Dr. Smith and Pastor Will responded to several of these points in the debate, but I thought it would be helpful to take a little more time with them. Then in our next episode we'll take on Samuel Nesan's opening statement. Before jumping into my conversation with Brandon Duke, I first want to formally introduce Kyle Essary. He's a scholar of the Old Testament with a PhD in biblical studies. He is currently a lecturer at the Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary where he also serves as the interim dean. He is originally from Dallas, USA, but has lived in China, the Middle East, and Malaysia for most of the past decade. And I hasten to add to this little bio, that he also seems like a genuinely kind man. Maybe that's just his southern accent, but he came across as fair minded and respectful. Well, that's enough of an introduction. Here now is episode 491 Refuting Kyle Essary's case that Jesus is Yahweh with Brandon Duke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSPU45IWErA —— Links —— Check out these other debates and this multi-part refutation of Michael Brown's case for the deity of Christ More about Brandon Duke at TruthBorn.org and on his YouTube channel For an entire class on the biblical unitarian understanding of God, see One God Over All on the web, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or YouTube Support Restitutio by donating here Join our Restitutio Facebook Group and follow Sean Finnegan on Twitter @RestitutioSF Leave a voice message via SpeakPipe with questions or comments and we may play them out on the air Intro music: Good Vibes by MBB Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0) Free Download / Stream: Music promoted by Audio Library. Welcome back to the DCP Podcast! Life has been NUTS for us lately, and we are working hard to get back into the swing of things right now. What is craziest of all is that we have yet to talk about Lent on the podcast (WHAT!), and so, it is time to do just that. But first, let's acknowledge something. We are a little over 2 weeks into Lent, but if you are like me, you likely had the wrong goals in mind with your Lenten resolutions. At the start of Lent I always see Lent as an opportunity to curb some bad habits…but that is NOT the point of Lent. The point of Lent is simple: Jesus. Everything that we do this Lent should be about making Christ MORE the center of our homes and our hearts. And so, if you are taking a minute to reevaluate your Lent (like we are), here are some ideas about making Jesus the Center of Lent…because there is still a lot of Lent left. Ideas: Read the Daily Gospel as a Family Do the Jesus Tree! https://shop.catholicsprouts.com/collections/jesus-tree Watch the Chosen or Jesus of Nazareth Do a Family Adoration Hour These are just a couple of ideas and we pray that they help you lead your family closer to Lent this year. In Christ Jesus, Nancy and Bill

The power of contentment is highly UNDER-rated. Contentment is what helps us center our life in peace. The constant striving for more and any unhappiness with what we presently have can rob us of any peace that we might enjoy. But to be content almost seems like stagnation - aren't we suppose to be becoming more like Christ? More prosperous? More mature? The answer is yes, we are to continually press for these things but at the same time realizing that God loves us just the way we are, right now and right here. His love and acceptance is not based on what we will become. Instead, the Word says that while we were yet sinners He died for us. Before we became anything! So the Word calls us to be content and yet press on. This is how we can keep our peace and joy AND look up and beyond ourselves and keep growing.
