The Medici Return takes Cotton to Italy to solve a five hundred year-old mystery.  Cotton Malone is on the hunt for a forgotten 16th century Pledge of Christ—a sworn promise made by Pope Julius II that evidences a monetary debt owed by the Vatican, still valid after five centuries—now worth in the trillions of dollars.  But collecting that debt centers around what happened to the famed Medici of Florence—a family that history says died out, without heirs, centuries ago. Who will become the next prime minister of Italy, and who will be the next pope? Finding answers proves difficult until Cotton realizes that everything hinges on when, and if, the Medici return.Steve Berry is the New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling author of nineteen Cotton Malone novels, five stand-alone thrillers, two Luke Daniels adventures, and several works of short fiction. He has over twenty-six million books in print, translated into forty-one languages. Subscribe to the podcast via RSS, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Stitcher. Questions 1. Texas’s grid collapse and lack of water has me wondering what I’d do in this situation and wanting to be prepared. Can you recommend a good survival guide that could help a reader with few skills? -Brooke 2. Hi hi! I’ve really been into historical fiction with female protagonists. Have absolutely loved the Neapolitan series and I’m wrapping up The Lost Girls of Paris, I’d appreciate any recommendations that are in the same vein. I love stories that take place in Europe but I’m open to books that take place in other places.  -Ren 3. Good queer stuff, thriller, sunday romance -Kai 4. I am looking for recommendations for my bookclub, the age ranges from 15 to mid-70’s, so I need recs that are appropriate for a younger audience but still keep the older members interested. Books we have already read include The Book Thief, The Joy Luck Club, Water for Elephants, The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Frankly In Love. My group tends to prefer historical fiction, but are open to other genres.  Thanks for your help!  -Holly 5. Howdy Y’all, I could use a good recommendation for an adventure/history series that I can listen to on my commute to and from work. In my head I’m thinking of an Uncharted like series. Super high quality, masterful prose, and themes and motifs out the wazoo are not necessary for this. I have read all the Dan Brown books. I am so far loving Steve Berry’s Cotton Malone series. I haven’t started James Rollins’ Sigma Force or Preston/Child’s Pendergast series but those are on my TBR. And I wasn’t a big fan of Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt, but I love the concept. I was wondering if you folks would have any good series recommendations along those lines that may have flown under my radar. It’s a plus if the series has a good audiobook narrator. And it’s a plus plus if the series is an ongoing franchise.  This has been an ongoing struggle for me so I finally decided there was only one place to go for expert recs.  Thank you guys very much -Michael 6. Hello ladies! I am looking for a book set in Australia that will give me the same kind of warm fuzzies I got from reading books like the Switch and The Bookish Life of Nina Hill or watching programs like the Great British Baking Show, Izzy’s Koala World, or Nadiya’s Time To Eat. I am open to any genre! Thank you!  -Erika 7. Hi Amanda and Jenn! I know I’m extremely late to the game, but I finally got around to watching the TV series Survivor and I am absolutely infatuated with it all! I’ve been wondering if there is a book version of this?! I think what I love about it so much is the character development (leading you to root for or disdain players) and the interpersonal and social complexities. I like seeing how people’s minds work. I like the full spectrum rainbow of ALL the emotions that come out. Every now and then there’s a love interest but without fail there is deception, risk taking, strategy, desperation, celebration and defeat. It’s amazing!! The surviving off the land part is cool too.      -Fangirl Books Discussed Just in Case by Kathy Harrison How To Invent Everything by Ryan North (That time he got stuck in a hole) The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins (tw slavery) Victoire by Maryse Condé, translated by Richard Philcox The Dime by Kathleen Kent The Outside by Ada Hoffmann (cw: self-harm) Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye (tw: sexual assault) The Talented Ribkins by Ladee Hubbard Templar series by Raymond Khoury (#1 The Last Templar) The Jaya Jones series by Gigi Pandian (Artifact #1) The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor The Helpline by Katherine Collette (rec’d by Keryn) Beauty Queens by Libba Bray South Pole Station by Ashley Shelby See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This Writer's Cut edition of The Malta Exchange features fascinating behind-the-scenes commentary read by the author. In the latest thrilling Cotton Malone adventure from international bestseller Steve Berry, one by one the seven precious relics of the Arma Christi, the weapons of Christ, are disappearing from sanctuaries across the world. After former Justice Department agent Cotton Malone witnesses the theft of one of them, he learns from his old boss, Stephanie Nelle, that a private auction is about to be held where incriminating information on the president of Poland will be offered to the highest bidder - blackmail that both the United States and Russia want, but for vastly different reasons. The price of admission to that auction is one of the relics, so Malone is first sent to a castle in Poland to steal the Holy Lance, a thousand-year-old spear sacred not only to Christians but to the Polish people, and then on to the auction itself. But nothing goes as planned and Malone is thrust into a bloody battle between three nations over information that, if exposed, could change the balance of power in Europe. From the tranquil canals of Bruges, to the elegant rooms of Wawel Castle, to deep beneath the earth in an ancient Polish salt mine, Malone is caught in the middle of a deadly war - the outcome of which turns on a secret known as the Warsaw Protocol.

Great show tonight! NYT bestselling author Steve Berry and award winning author Kelli Stanley. Steve Berry "The Bishop's Pawn": The first case of New York Times bestseller Steve Berry's iconic hero, Cotton Malone. History notes that the ugly feud between J. Edgar Hoover and Martin Luther King, Jr., marked by years of illegal surveillance and the accumulation of secret files, ended on April 4, 1968 when King was assassinated by James Earl Ray. But that may not have been the case. Now, fifty years later, former Justice Department agent, Cotton Malone, must reckon with the truth of what really happened that fateful day in Memphis. It all turns on an incident from eighteen years ago, when Malone, as a young Navy lawyer, is trying hard not to live up to his burgeoning reputation as a maverick. When Stephanie Nelle, a high-level Justice Department lawyer, enlists him to help with an investigation, he jumps at the opportunity. But he soon discovers that two opposing forces?the Justice Department and the FBI?are at war over a rare coin and a cadre of secret files containing explosive revelations about the King assassination, information that could ruin innocent lives and threaten the legacy of the civil rights movement's greatest martyr. Malone's decision to see it through to the end ?? from the raucous bars of Mexico, to the clear waters of the Dry Tortugas, and ultimately into the halls of power within Washington D.C. itself ?? not only changes his own life, but the course of history. Steve Berry always mines the lost riches of history ?? in The Bishop's Pawn he imagines a gripping, provocative thriller about an American icon.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the assignation of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After nearly five-decades there remain many unanswered questions surrounding the killing of Dr. King. Author Steve Berry's new novel, The Bishop's Pawn, is the latest installment in his Cotton Malone series. It's a prequel of sorts and tells the back story of the beginning of the Magellan Billet and Cotton's association with that special Justice Department unit. It also wraps Cotton's latest mystery around the historical intrigue of one of the most pivotal events of the 20th Century - the assignation of MLK.

This is a reboot of their previous attempt, and it looks like the service is learning from its mistakes. The reboot will allow Scribd subscribers to have access to an unlimited catalog of ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and newspapers, and sheet music, for some reason. However, “unlimited” may be a little misleading. After users have pored through a certain, unspecified number of books, they’ll essentially be throttled, and limited to books “unlimited’ reading from a list of pre-determined books. These will include new releases and frontlist books—the sort that people actually want to read on demand, in other words. This is a bit like Netflix deciding to limit viewers to only a backlist of videos, and charging them extra to watch new releases. My opinion, at least. What’s yours? https://goodereader.com/blog/e-book-news/scribd-reintroduces-unlimited-audiobooks-and-ebooksApple fires shots across Amazon’s eBook bow — I’ve talked about this a bit in the past, but Apple and Amazon will likely be mentioned in a lot of indie publishing news over the next year, as Apple starts eyeing Amazon’s big, steaming hunk of the eBook market. Not only is Apple retooling its book business, with a redesigned app and a less ‘i-everyting’ name, they’ve also hired former executives from both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. What’s the game plan? World domination, obviously. And I, for one, welcome our technological overlords. Where do you think Apple will take the business, with these aggressive moves? https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-25/apple-is-said-to-ready-revamped-e-books-push-against-amazonAudiobook sales are on the rise — In a turn that is going to be good news for authors already invested in audiobooks as a sales channel, sales showed an upward trend in 2017. In the first three quarters, audiobooks sales rose 26.2%. As retailers such as Google Play and others start putting more focus on audiobooks, it’s likely we’re just at the beginning of an upward swoop. And as there are nowhere near the titles available in audio as there are in ebook formats, this represents an opportunity for early adopters to carve a piece of the pie for themselves.
