From international bestselling authors James S. Murray (better known as "Murr" on the hit TV show Impractical Jokers) and Darren Wearmouth, comes You Better Watch Out, a suspenseful, serial killer thriller that leaves you wondering, is Christmas really the best time of the year? Forty-eight hours until Christmas, Jessica Kane wakes up with blurred vision, ears ringing, and in excruciating pain. A gash in her head and blood running down her face, the last thing she remembers is going for a run and something or someone hitting her in the head. It doesn't take her long to realize she is trapped in an unknown, deserted town with five other strangers who share similar stories of being attacked and stranded there. Unsure why and how they got there, she knows one thing for certain, she has to find a way out. That becomes nearly impossible when someone is meticulously orchestrating their deaths, one by one, and the only thing Jessica can do is watch the life leave their eyes. The fenced-in town is the killer's very own playground and there's nowhere left to hide... she better watch out because she could be next. "And Then There Were None meets Saw in the deliciously demented latest collaboration between Murray and Wearmouth... A slick slasher that's easy to wolf down in a single sitting [for] readers who like their holiday fare bitter." -Publishers Weekly "In You Better Watch Out, authors Murray and Wearworth have produced a story for lovers of campy B-horror movies, creating a book that feels like Saw with a Christmas twist." -Booklist "Who doesn't like giving a little murder for Christmas? The killer thriller that goes with everything-especially if you like red. You Better Watch Out is the only gift you won't want to return." -Brad Meltzer, #1 bestselling author of The Lightning Rod "A snow-swept little town delivers a gruesome holiday story in another Murray/Wearmouth thriller. You Better Watch Out is part mystery, part haunted house, part slasher movie. Every twist comes at high speed, every riddle winds the tension higher, every death more shocking than the last. Jump aboard and buckle up for a true slay ride!" -James Rollins, #1 New York Times bestseller of Tides of FireBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
My special guest tonight is author Deborah Vadas Levison who's here to discuss how her parents peaceful life after the holocaust was shattered by a grizzly discovery under their home. Get the book. After surviving the horrors of the Holocaust—in ghettos, on death marches, and in concentration camps—a young couple seeks refuge in Canada. They settle into a new life, certain that the terrors of their past are behind them. They build themselves a cozy little cottage on a lake in Muskoka, a cottage that becomes emblematic of their victory over the Nazis. The charming retreat is a safe haven, a refuge from haunted memories. That is, until a single act of unspeakable violence defiles their sanctuary. Poking around the dark crawl space beneath their cottage, they discover a wooden crate, nailed tightly shut and almost hidden from view. Nothing could have prepared them for the horror of the crate's contents—or how the peace and tranquility of their lives would be shattered. Now, their daughter, Deborah Vadas Levison, an award-winning journalist, tells the extraordinary account of her parents' ordeals, both in one of the darkest times in world history and their present-day lives. Written in searing, lyrical prose, The Crate: A Story of War, a Murder, and Justice examines man's seemingly limitless capacity for evil . . . but also, his capacity for good. “An impressive and important piece of work. I'm glad it was written, and I'm glad I read it.”—Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author “A gut-punch, hitting you broadside with such harrowing moments that you have to put the book down and take a breath.”—James Rollins, #1 New York Times bestselling authorFollow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

In this episode, Mike and Chris chat with acclaimed screenwriter and bestselling author Terry Hayes about his latest novel, THE YEAR OF THE LOCUST, a decade in the making. About Terry: Terry Hayes is an Australian screenwriter, producer, and novelist, born on October 8, 1951, in Sussex, England. Known for his versatile career, Hayes has made significant contributions to the film industry, having penned scripts for blockbuster movies like "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior," "Dead Calm," and "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome." In addition to his success in filmmaking, Hayes is an accomplished novelist. His debut novel, "I Am Pilgrim," a gripping espionage thriller, received widespread acclaim for its intricate plot and compelling storytelling. Hayes continues to captivate audiences with his talent for weaving thrilling narratives across multiple creative mediums. Raves and Reviews for THE YEAR OF THE LOCUST: “Go in expecting the unexpected, and you'll walk away, jaw dragging on the floor, stunned and unable to stop thinking about this book for weeks . . . Shocking, far-fetched, but filled with bloody good fun, Terry Hayes comes out swinging yet again with The Year of the Locust, mixing storylines you might expect from Robert Ludlum and James Rollins, with a touch of Crichton and Fleming for added good measure.”– The Real Book Spy “THE YEAR OF THE LOCUST is the must read of the year for the true connoisseur of the classic espionage thriller. Terry Hayes' runaway bestseller I AM PILGRIM was an amazing tour de force; THE YEAR OF THE LOCUST reaches new heights in storytelling. Wonderfully literate, beautifully written, and tightly plotted. This one will stay with you a long time.” — Nelson DeMille, New York Times bestselling author of BLOOD LINES “An absolutely brilliant, tension-filled, tour de force. ABOUT JAMES Mylife worked until it didn't. The business was strong, the capital wasplentiful, and life seemed all I had ever dared wish it to be. Performing lifevs. Living life nearly cost me my business, my investments, my children, and mymarriage. The never-ending hyper-vigilant striving to achieve the next level ofsuccess suddenly awakened me to the deep emptiness of my current livedexperience. Unable to truly celebrate and instead deeply anxious about therawness of who I really was on the inside, I flip-flopped between beingrestless & bored and anxious & depressed. Thankfully peace didn't come, but instead, I fell into a million tiny pieces. It forced me to build a newinfrastructure grounded upon authenticity and gratitude. I made criticaldecisions like “my joy is not for sale” and “losses are simply disguised giftshidden in plain sight.” I've spent the last decade designing my life ofgratitude and can honestly say I have an unshakeable love for my life. Not inspite of the losses that I've had to endure however rather BECAUSE of thelosses that I've utilized well. Fearing Fear itself has now left me. Today Ihelp people ignite their vibrant energy toward life by turning toward what theyreally want - to courageously step towards their comforts and discomforts withcuriosity and an open embrace of the goodness that lies at the core of both thewin and the loss. The truth is - Real life is made up of both wins and losses. Both were designed for your good - that's the basic reality. Without facing andlearning how to embrace your losses for greater gain, you miss out. Why chooseto leave 50% of your life experience on the table when you can choose to do thework so that you can have it all? Life can be good news - if we let it. The opinions expressed by guests are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of or endorsement by the Information Professionals Association. During this episode, Dr. Sean McFate discusses his influential book, The New Rules of War. Sean describes how the Westphalian state system is changing, consequences for conventional war, the rise of mercenaries and international mega-corporations, and information operations. Plus, the Cognitive Crucible gets not only one–but two–Monty Python references. Research Question: Sean asks several questions worthy of examination. First, how can a democracy fight secretive wars without losing its democratic soul? Second, strategic culture can eclipse strategic IQ; so, how can a strong strategic culture be broken? Finally, what is strategic thinking, and how are good strategic thinkers created? James Rollins is the author of international thrillers that have been translated into more than forty languages. His Sigma Force series has been lauded as one of the "top crowd pleasers" (New York Times) and one of the "hottest summer reads" (People). In each novel, acclaimed for its originality, Rollins unveils unseen worlds, scientific breakthroughs, and historical secrets—and he does it all at breakneck speed and with stunning insight. In his new book, KINGDOM OF BONES, the story begins in Africa. A United Nations relief team in a small village in the Congo makes an alarming discovery. An unknown force is leveling the evolutionary playing field. Men, women, and children have been reduced to a dull, catatonic state. The environment surrounding them—plants and animals—has grown more cunning and predatory, evolving at an exponential pace. The insidious phenomenon is spreading from a cursed site in the jungle — known to locals as the Kingdom of Bones —and sweeping across Africa, threatening the rest of the world.
As if preparing for this podcast wasn't enough work already, this week we discuss three adaptations of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. First, the novelization by James Rollins. Then, the shorter junior novelization by James Luceno. And briefly the graphic novel by Fabio Laguna, which also rules. But let's be honest, we mostly talk about this movie and argue about whether it's underrated or rated just fine. We're joined by filmmaker Patrick Belics, who brings his perspective on how to effectively tell a story, and whether this guy Steven Spielberg pulled it off.
