"God has given us the opportunity to love and serve the brokenhearted." The "Eight Days of Hope" ministry is on the scene where tornadoes created multiple disaster zones in the past couple of weeks. New-York-based Steve Tybor gives us an update on how the volunteers and equip get mobilized, to respond to the tangible needs while also bringing Christian hope. Tybor tells Family Life's Mark Webster about the midwestern response, their efforts to shelter young women caught up in human trafficking, and the upcoming annual trip to Buffalo for a week-plus of work in neighborhoods in need. This is the fifth year for the Buffalo projects -- in the previous four, they have rehabbed homes of 1,200 families. Individuals, couples and families can participate in that work, even for fewer than eight days. The national "Eight Days" effort has involved 60,000 volunteers.

Expectations were raised, expectations were dashed. In a nutshell, that's been 2023 for the Mets. Still, hope springs eternal, even in the last days of a season about to end with no sign our most recent spasm of hope transformed into the success we dared expect. We can't control what the players accomplish, yet we'll be back to look forward to a collection of them next year doing better than they did this year. One decade ago, we had only one day in five to really look forward to, and we rode that Day for all it was worth. The “It Happens in Threes” series lands in 2013, a.k.a. Harvey Year (11:15). National League Town also takes a moment to remember the Mets fan author who preserved for us every Met day of the franchise's first twenty years (37:45). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nationalleaguetown/message

My guest Dr Phil Carson has been on the show before, but never with such a personal story. He brought Chandler Gurley, Director of Operations for "Eight Days of Hope", a national organization that responds to disasters across the country, helping to rebuild homes, communities, and lives and Dr. Carson met Chandler disaster struck their hometown in Spring 2023, when a powerful tornado left behind a path of destruction in Amory, Mississippi. When tragedy strikes, the Eight Days of Hope community comes together to spread restoration and new beginnings. After a disaster, EDOH helps people be clean and safe. They provide rapid response to feed and support victims and rebuild structures and homes, and they provide also the hope for each community and person recovering from unthinkable disaster. Chandler explains: "during my five and a half years at EDOH, I have held multiple roles including Executive Assistant, Rapid Response Director, and Director of Operations. God revealed His call on my life to serve Him full-time as a teenager, and it is an honor to work in an organization that allows me to live out my calling each day. The world of disaster relief is not an easy one. It is dirty, messy, and very difficult to walk through day after day, but isn't that where Jesus provides hope to the hopeless, healing to the brokenhearted, and light to the darkness. He is here, so that is exactly where I want to be." It is Day #1 of the 21 Days of Hope. The beautiful part of the Easter season is how it refreshes our soul. It brings much-needed hope to our lives. So the goal of today's step in the 21 Days of Hope is to allow the hope of Easter to start refreshing your soul. And as with most aspects of our walk with Jesus, that will begin in prayer. Let's jump into a devotion on The 6 Prayers Your Heart Needs This Easter. This devotion comes from a post by Lysa TerKeurst. Let's look at some of the first words spoken that first Easter: “The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: “He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.” Now I have told you.'” Matthew 28:5-7 (NIV) Lysa shows us six different ways we can pray through this passage of scripture. I encourage you to take time and pray these as you read through each one: "Do not be afraid," — Dear God, I hand over to You those things that make me so afraid. Resurrect the parts of my faith that are squelched by fear. "I know that you are looking for Jesus," — God, when my soul is searching, may I know that the answer to every longing is found in You. "He has risen," — God, the fact that Jesus is risen should lift my head, my heart and my attitude. Help me live today as if I really believe this with every part of my life. "just as he said," — Dear Jesus, You keep Your promises. Show me how to live as though I believe that with every part of me. Help me trust You more, obey You more and resemble You more. "Come and see," — Jesus, You had the angels invite the women in to see for themselves that You had risen. You invite me into these personal revelations every day. Forgive me for sometimes rushing about and forgetting to come and see for myself … You, Your Word, Your insights. "Then go quickly and tell his disciples," — Jesus, I don't want to be a secret-keeper with my faith. I want to be a bold and gracious truth-proclaimer. For You. With You. Because of You. Me, the girl whom You loved and redeemed. In Jesus' Name, Amen. What a powerful way to pray as we kick off the 21 Days Of Hope. I love how this passage builds hope in our hearts and then helps us to start sharing hope with others. That is what Easter is all about.
