I'd love to hear from you! Send me a text message here and let me know what you thought about the episode. :)As Hurricane Milton threatened Florida, I found myself grappling with anxiety and worry for my hometown of Sarasota. Traveling to Cincinnati for a keynote on the power of personal stories, I couldn't escape the shared trepidation at the airport, as travelers exchanged tales of loved ones caught in the storm's path. This collective concern spurred me into action, reaching out to Florida-based organizations to see how we could all lend a hand. The responses were heartwarming, offering a glimpse into how community and storytelling can become a beacon of hope during crises.Join me in this special episode of Missions to Movements, where I illuminate the efforts of remarkable organizations like the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the Treasure Coast Food Bank, both tirelessly distributing meals and supplies. Andrew Lewin discusses the intersection of politics and climate change, particularly in the context of recent hurricanes, Milton and Helene, that impacted Florida and surrounding areas. Andrew expresses frustration over the political responses to these natural disasters, highlighting how misinformation and conspiracy theories undermine genuine efforts to address climate change. He critiques the notion that the government is manipulating weather patterns to influence elections, arguing that such beliefs distract from the real issues, including the increasing intensity of hurricanes due to climate change. The episode emphasizes the need for effective policies and collaboration among political leaders to improve disaster response and relief efforts. Lewin calls for voters to support candidates who prioritize climate action and work towards solutions rather than perpetuating divisive narratives. He stresses the importance of accountability in politics, urging listeners to engage in the democratic process and advocate for responsible governance that addresses the realities of climate change. Overall, the episode serves as a rallying cry for collective action against climate change, urging individuals to be informed voters and to demand better from their leaders in the face of environmental challenges. This week Reid and Dan host Grand Ole Opry member, Chris Janson out in God's Country. Chris had just gotten back from East Tennessee where he discusses how people can help the folks affected by Hurricane Helene and what it was like. Reid and Dan have the most petty "What You Mad At" stories to date, but we're pretty sure all our dad listeners can relate. They get the play by play from Chris on his most recent elk hunt in Colorado, talk about deer season prep, and the work he is doing with Bass Pro Shop to encourage conservation across the country. They cover the meaning behind "What Ya See Is What Ya Get" and what it was like working with "The Rock" for the music video. A presidential candidate makes an "appearance" that leaves the guys in disbelief and the episode "Gravorite" is a bit rowdy. On Thursday, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 4 hurricane before moving inland and hitting the southeastern United States. The hurricane was the third to hit the Big Bend region in Florida in 13 months and broke storm surge records across the Gulf Coast. At least 130 deaths in six states have been attributed to the storm, and the death toll continues to climb. On Monday afternoon, two million homes and businesses were still without power, and floods continued to devastate counties from Florida to Virginia. You can read today's podcast here, our “Under the Radar” story here and today's “Have a nice day” story here.Check out Episode 6 of our podcast series, The Undecideds.
