Thoughts go out to our brothers and sisters in Hawai'i right now who are going through a tragically hard time. They were represented to the highest level by Max Holloway in Singapore as he put on a career-defining performance against the Korean Zombie in what would turn out to be Zombie's retirement fight. As a long-time collaborator and fan of the Muppets, Alexandra talks about the unique and creative challenge of editing these beloved characters.The Muppets are known and loved for their humour, which is often a product of many ad-libbed and off-the-script moments while filming. It was Alexandra and her team's job to select the best takes while keeping the overall narrative in mind. Additionally, the Muppets are obviously puppeted characters, so they have an inherent limitation on certain movements and angles they can be shot from, leading to a unique challenge for Alexandra and her team.If you haven't been to watch the special yet, I really urge you to check it out, as it really is your favourite Muppet characters back on top form. Artist Joey Marsocci is a story teller who uses the mediums of theme park and haunt design, creature fabrication, illustration, writing, acting, cosplay, and more to tell his stories. He’s passionate about building immersive experiences for those who enjoy his strange worlds.   Joey knew he wanted to be in arts and entertainment since childhood. He loved watching scary movies like Jaws and figuring out how they were made. Authors like Jules Vern and Mary Shelley put his imagination into overdrive.  Teaching keeps him evolving as an artist. Art is therapy for him, and he infuses this into his lectures and classes. Students leave his classes with both technical and storytelling skills.   Joey explained theme parks are stories that you can directly interact with. Studying at CalArts gave him the opportunity to work on revisions to the Disney Haunted Mansion and the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction.    Joey’s favorite haunt is located at Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, NY. It naturally feels creepy, foreboding, and dreadful to him. He’s had his own paranormal experiences there. Everything in the haunt is connected back to author Washington Irving and his time period. Joey is an actor at the haunt and creates custom monsters for it. Joey doesn’t break character when he is acting. Disneyland Haunted Mansion turns 50 - we get some inside secrets from former Imgineer Greg Meader

An Over Coffee® special-edition podcast ScareLA™ 2018,  Los Angeles' first Halloween convention,  celebrated its sixth anniversary during the weekend of August 25th. And we had the opportunity to speak with three iconic creators about their work on the Disney Haunted Mansion and Universal Studios' "Halloween Horror Nights". Iconic Disney Imagineer Bob Gurr was onsite at the "Haunted Orange County™" booth. Walt Disney himself hired Bob, who is one of the two remaining original Imagineers.   Working with Walt to design Disneyland, Bob created the vehicles--and of course, besides his designs for the miniature cars in Autopia and the Monorail, he designed the Doom Buggies for the Haunted Mansion. Bob, who was named a Disney Legend in 2004, also developed the first realistic humanoid animatronic in the 1960s, for the New York World's Fair: Abraham Lincoln, for "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln". After taking early retirement, he would go on to create animatronics for Steven Spielberg, as well as designing effects for Michael Jackson's Victory tour, among innumerable other projects. Named a Disney Legend in 2004, Bob still does consulting work for Disney today.  In addition, his website says he's in the middle of another exciting independent project! A ScareLA™ favorite Meanwhile, a capacity-crowd-popular event at every ScareLA™ is Universal Studios' "Halloween Horror Nights" reveal. Every year, Universal Art Director Chris Williams and Creative Director John Murdy share a preview of Universal's new Halloween mazes, as they talk about their experiences creating them. For 2018,  Chris and John will scare the daylights out of you with a maze they've wanted to create for a long time. The "Universal Monsters" maze features classic monsters from some of Universal's scariest horror films, over the decades.  And now, they've all been brought together to terrify Halloween 2018 maze attendees.  In addition, there's an original soundtrack, created by Slash, former lead guitarist of Guns and Roses. (And it's going to be a screamingly good time!) Bob, Chris and John talked about their experiences, behind the scenes, creating the attractions that will draw you in, show you a good time and very possibly (in Chris and John's case) evoke some "monstrous" Halloween chills.
