This show we do a throwback to our 100th episode where we talk with our two most important mentors ------ Our 100th show! We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate this milestone than by having our two most important mentors on the show: Mike Brown of the former Praesidium Group and Craig Douglas of Shivworks. Topics: Meeting Mike in the mid 90s, how he became such an important coach and mentor to Eric and Aaron; how he pushed Eric join the TPI forums and to take ECQC. The Twins becoming a host to Craig for multiple classes through the years and how that relationship led to training with others in the Shivworks collective. TPI and its influence on the current multidisciplinary realm and how forums have transitioned to video and social media. Is this good/bad? Who are folks in this multidisciplinary realm whom both Craig and Mike recommend and what makes great instructors. Lastly, we talk a little gear, P365s, red dots, and some other fun topics to close out the show. This show we have DB "Boon" Benton of Threat Management Solutions back on the show. Threat Management Solutions, Dave Benton, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania Boon is a survivor of the 2012 Benghazi Al Qaeda attacks where he was one of the CIA GRS contractors who helped defend and evacuate personnel. Boon, Tyrone "Rone" Woods, Kris "Tanto" Paronto, Jack Silva, Mark "Oz" Geist, John "Tig" Tiegen and Glenn "Bub" Doherty working for GRS saved countless lives in these attacks. Unfortunately, Rone and Bub were both killed during their heroic acts. We also lost Ambassador Christorpher Stevens, and Communications Specialist Sean Smith. Their story was memorialized in the book and movie 13 Hours in Benghazi. Boon is also co-author of the book, Benghazi Know thy Enemy with former CIA Targeting Officer Sarah Adams. DB is also a BJJ Black belt and an expert in the field of combatives. This show we talk details regarding some of the classes that he offers. A few discussed but not limited to, Low Signature Pistol, Close Range Engagement, and Concealed Defensive Carbine. A bonus discussion on Boon's preferred 556 and 300 BLK ammo was also very informative. One really concerning topic Boon brought up was the uncovered Al-Qaeda US and Europe attacks that the terrorist organization intends to commit in 2025. Self Defense isn't what it used to be. Jiu jitsu has become mainstream. But what if you were to discover that no-gi training wasn't as realistic as you wished? Ruben Alverez traces a tale of growing up in the world of Jiu Jitsu, only to discover it wasn't all that he needed. ECQC or Extreme Close Quarters Concepts takes the idea of a violent encounter to a more personal level. It's no longer about how fast your concealed draw time is. Rather, Ruben illustrates how a lethal weapon changes the way people think and act when in a violent bind. Cecil Burch is back on for his 4th appearance to talk about his new JiuJitsu academy, Gracie University affiliation. We also talk about his collaboration with Darryl Bolke and Chuck Haggard for their NPE Counter Robbery course. The course teaches you to think with a gun in your hand, make critical shoot, no shoot decisions, how to manage unknown contacts (MUC), use pepper spray properly all while considering being in an environment that is non-permissive where you may not be able to carry a full size blaster. The course also has a force on force element that uses blue guns which aids in getting folks under pressure without being overly physical. This week we are extremely excited to have Craig Douglas of Shivworks on the show. Craig is the father of the real life “Fight Club” with a gun or knife. His course work Extreme Close Quarters Concepts (ECQC) has changed the lives of countless people throughout the US and around the world. This show we discuss the details of the course and hit on the experience that the EvoSec crew had in the recent Olympia ECQC that they hosted 13-15 Sep 2019. This point is driven hard in this monumental interview. The crew also discuss the details of Craig’s other flagship course Armed Movement inside Structures (AMIS). This class is a deep dive into one of the worst case scenarios in a self-defense, the solo movement and negotiation of a structure with the possibility of armed assailants inside said structure. ECQC After Action Review: This week the EvoSec crew does an AAR of the 13-15 Sep 2019 Olympia WA Extreme Close Quarters Concepts (ECQC) course with Craig Douglas. EvoSec hosted the event. If you are serious about self-defense, this course is a must, it is life saving and life changing. The ShivWorks Extreme Close Quarter Concepts (ECQC) course is a two-and-a-half-day (20-hour) block of instruction that offers a multi-disciplinary approach to building functional, combative handgun skills at zero to five feet. The course is designed to instill core concepts of seamless integration and provide the platform for aggressive problem solving during a life or death struggle at arm’s length or closer. We emphasize the common body mechanics that apply across different skill sets. That way, all combative software is reinforcing. Once students’ skill sets are ingrained, they will be stress inoculated with force-on-force drills using marking cartridges and protective equipment.
