Every strength has a shadow side. That confident communication style that makes you so persuasive? It might be shutting down the very conversations you're trying to create. Those brilliant ideas constantly flowing from your mind? They could be overwhelming your team instead of inspiring them. Your nurturing approach that makes people feel safe? It might make your necessary feedback feel unexpectedly harsh. In this refreshingly honest conversation, we dive into the paradox of leadership traits by examining our own double-edged qualities. Scott reveals how his abundant idea generation requires "ruthless discernment" to prevent overwhelming others. Tammy explores how her authoritative communication style can unintentionally close discussions rather than open them. Karman shares how her supportive "mother hen" approach sometimes makes it difficult to deliver direct feedback when needed. The conversation takes a fascinating turn when we explore how people respond to titles and authority regardless of how we see ourselves. Even leaders who reject hierarchical thinking must recognize that a simple "my boss wants it this way" changes dynamics in ways we can't control. But rather than feeling trapped by these realities, we discover how self-awareness offers freedom - the ability to consciously choose which aspects of ourselves to emphasize in different situations.

In today's episode, we wrestle with St Paul's description of the Mosaic Law in Romans, which he indicates is both good, yet a cause of us stumbling. We conclude by pointing out how Paul resolves this inherent conflict with the Law.
Did the Supreme Court just make it easier to build things in this country — or did it give a once-in-a-lifetime gift to the fossil fuel industry? Last week, the Supreme Court ruled 8-0 against environmentalists who sought to use a key permitting law, the National Environmental Policy Act, to slow down a railroad in a remote but oil-rich part of Utah. Even the court's liberals ruled against the green groups. But the court's conservative majority issued a much stronger and more expansive ruling, urging lower courts to stop interpreting the law as they have for years. That decision, written by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, may signal a new era for what has been called the “Magna Carta” of environmental law.On this week's episode of Shift Key, Rob and Jesse talk with Nicholas Bagley, a University of Michigan law professor and frequent writer on permitting issues. He is also Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's former chief legal counsel. Rob, Jesse, and Nick discuss what NEPA is, how it has helped (and perhaps hindered) the environment, and why it's likely to change again in the near future. Shift Key is hosted by Jesse Jenkins, a professor of energy systems engineering at Princeton University, and Robinson Meyer, Heatmap's executive editor. In this episode, I dig into a question that's always lurking in the back of a portrait photographer's mind – what really makes light flattering? It's a term we all use, but what does it actually mean? Is it just about soft shadows and low contrast, or is it more about the connection between the subject and the photographer? I talk through this while reflecting on a busy week – from a stunning wedding at Head Saw House to a corporate shoot for Barclays, and a spontaneous portrait session that reminded me why I love this job. I also share some thoughts on the updated Mastering Portrait Photography book, which hits shelves in September, complete with fresh images and a whole new chapter on AI post-production. If you've ever wondered what makes a light truly flattering – and why it's about more than just the gear – this episode is for you. And as always, wherever you are and whatever you're doing, be kind to yourself. Cheers P. Transcript Well, as I sit here in the studio, the sun is shining in through the windows and it's been a beautiful, beautiful week. I started it with a trip down to Devon with the in-laws. One great thing about being married to Sarah, whose family are from Plymouth, there are many great things about being married to Sarah. But one of the ones, in terms of geography, at least, is her family still lived down in Plymouth, in Devon, by the sea. So it was absolutely glorious to spend a couple of days down there walking the dog, drinking a beer, enjoying the sunshine, and the sun is still shining here right now. And on that happy note, I'm Paul. I'm very much looking forward to a barbecue, and this is the Mastering Portrait

The study of the book of the Revelation continues in chapter 2. You are listening to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast. Our teacher, Dr. John G. Mitchell is speaking about the church of Pergamum, the worldly church, joined to the world. This kind of relationship opens the door and gives entrance to false teachings, erroneous doctrines which the Lord says He will come and fight against and those who hold on to them. However, our Lord does commend this church. They held fast His name, that is, they held fast to his eternal deity and they did not deny His faith, both His faithfulness and their faith in Him.Let's join Dr. Mitchell, Rev. chapter 2 verses 12 - 17 in speaking of the church of Pergamum.
The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues our study in Rev. chapter 2 verses 12 thru 16. Dr. Mitchell teaches about the church of Pergamum or Pergamus. This is the third of the seven churches which the Son of God addresses as the one who has the sharp two-edged sword. Dr. Mitchell gives us historical background surrounding this church which led it to be a worldly church. In this church, there were some who were holding to false doctrines. There were two specifically addressed. There was the teaching of Balaam. Also, the teaching of the Nicolaitans. That which had been deeds in Ephesus is now a doctrine in Pergamum. Dr. Mitchell elaborates on these in detail. The Lord would be coming to fight against these false teachings by the sword of His mouth, unless they repented. Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Rev. chapter 2 verse 12.
Our study in the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ continues here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast. We will start this lesson in Rev. chapter 2 verse 12. The Lord is addressing the messenger, the angel of the church of Pergamum who is to relate to this church these words of the Lord Jesus. The Lord identifies Himself as the One who has the sharp two-edged sword. His words penetrate so much so that in verse 16 He says "Therefore repent. If not I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth".God uses His Word to wage war against false doctrine within the church. His Word will be heard by the one who has an ear to hear. Let's Join Dr. Mitchell has he teaches about the church of Pergamum, Rev. 2 verses 12 through 13 .

CT scans are an unbelievable technology for detecting cancers, but according to a recent study the radiation could be causing more harm than good. The 2025 study has come to a sobering conclusion that CT scans performed in the United States in 2023 could result in more than a 100,000 future cancers! Dr. Martin says CT scans are a double-edged sword. Yes, they detect cancer, but the exposure to high radiation can also cause cancer. Join Dr. Martin as he discusses what you can do to prepare for these types of scans in today's episode.

It was dubbed El Calamatico; a clash of two teams falling disastrously short of expectation in the Premier League this season. Unfortunately for us it was Tottenham, through Manchester United fan James Maddison, who found the crucial breakthrough. In fairness to Ruben Amorim's eleven, they had little support from the bench after a series of injuries in training this week. Charles Spurgeon once offered a humble recommendation for how to defend the Bible. He kept it quite simple, “Let it defend itself.” His statement gets to the heart of our problem. We want to hold up the Word of God, forgetting that it holds us up. We want to cut with the Sword of the Spirit rather than have it cut us. We treat the sword like it is an inanimate object in need of the living to wield it. But our text says the word is alive and we are the ones in need of animation. We're the ones in need of entering into rest, being prodded to enter that rest by the two-edged sword.

Nothing encapsulates and exemplifies the spirit of the age like Joe Rogan. The modern youth are enraptured by diversions, a constant stream of the f-word, conspiracies, drugs, and UFO's. In a word. . . unhinged. This is nihilistic, hard-edged, constantly-vacillating relativism on steroids. Sadly, the young people in the church have been affected by this spirit. The only possible solution is to be nailed down to the deck of God's truth (God's law-word) with 400 sixteen-penny nails. This program includes: 1. The World View in 5 Minutes with Adam McManus (Vatican's approval of sexual perversion, Rubio: Emphasizing nat'l interest is not isolationism, Top 10 worst countries for persecution of Christians) 2. The Chicago Blackhawks grabbed an early 1-0 lead thanks to an incredible goal by Connor Bedard, but they allowed 2 goals in the 2nd period, and 3 goals in the 3rd period, falling to the New York Islanders 5-4. A frustrating loss to say the least. Could the lack of early offense be a precursor to Frank Nazar being called up to the NHL? We'll discuss on the CHGO Blackhawks Podcast.
