This Day in Legal History: O.J. “Not Guilty”On October 3, 1995, a Los Angeles jury returned one of the most controversial and widely watched criminal verdicts in American history: O.J. Simpson was found not guilty of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. The trial, which lasted more than eight months, captivated the nation with its blend of celebrity, race, police misconduct, and media spectacle. The prosecution presented DNA evidence linking Simpson to the crime scene, while the defense, led by Johnnie Cochran, argued that Simpson was framed by a racist LAPD, particularly Detective Mark Fuhrman.Cochran's now-famous line — “If it doesn't fit, you must acquit” — referred to a moment when Simpson tried on gloves allegedly worn during the murders, and they appeared not to fit. The defense used that moment to cast further doubt on the prosecution's case. The jury deliberated for less than four hours before acquitting Simpson, prompting strong reactions across racial and social lines. The case exposed deep divisions in American society, particularly around race and policing. It also helped usher in the era of the 24-hour news cycle and reality-style courtroom coverage, with networks like CNN and Court TV devoting extensive airtime to the trial. The not-guilty verdict did not end Simpson's legal troubles: in 1997, a civil jury found him liable for wrongful death and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages.Apple confirmed it has removed the ICEBlock app and similar tools from its App Store following pressure from the Trump administration and Attorney General Pam Bondi. ICEBlock allowed users to report and track the locations of ICE officers through crowdsourced data. Bondi stated the app endangered law enforcement officers and crossed a line by facilitating potential violence. The Department of Justice supported the move, citing safety concerns. This action followed an exposé by right-wing influencer Laura Loomer, who outed the creator of a similar app, Red Dot, and accused the platforms of enabling violence against ICE agents. Loomer also claimed that a recent deadly shooting at a Dallas ICE facility involved the use of such tracking apps.Apple defended its decision, stating it aims to keep the App Store a “safe and trusted” space, and that ICEBlock violated policies by potentially enabling harm to law enforcement. The app's developer, Joshua Aaron, criticized the removal, comparing it to how apps like Apple Maps crowdsource speed trap locations. He argued that his app was protected by the First Amendment and that Apple's action was a concession to authoritarian demands.Tech Giant Apple Bows to MAGA Demands and Removes ICE Tracking AppsOpenAI filed a motion in federal court to dismiss a trade secret lawsuit brought by Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, accuses OpenAI of deliberately poaching xAI employees to gain access to confidential information about Grok, xAI's chatbot, which the company claims surpasses ChatGPT in performance.OpenAI rejected the allegations, calling them baseless and part of Musk's “ongoing harassment” campaign against the company. In its filing, OpenAI argued that employees are free to leave xAI and work wherever they choose, and that it is within its rights to hire them. The company suggested xAI's legal actions are designed to cover up its internal struggles and inability to retain talent. This case is one of several legal battles unfolding between Musk and OpenAI. Musk has also filed a separate suit accusing OpenAI of abandoning its original nonprofit mission. In turn, OpenAI has countersued Musk for harassment. Meanwhile, xAI has sued Apple, claiming it colluded with OpenAI to suppress competition—an accusation both companies deny and are also seeking to dismiss.OpenAI's legal response characterized xAI's complaint as a distraction from its own failings and a tactic to slow down competitors in the heated race for dominance in the AI industry.OpenAI asks court to dismiss trade-secret lawsuit from Musk's xAI | ReutersU.S. District Judge Michael Simon recused himself from a case challenging President Donald Trump's decision to deploy Oregon's National Guard to Portland. The Trump administration had raised concerns over public comments made by Simon's wife, Representative Suzanne Bonamici, criticizing the deployment as a “gross abuse of power.” To avoid any appearance of bias, Judge Simon opted to step aside, stating the case should remain focused on its core constitutional and legal questions. The lawsuit, filed by Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, seeks to block Trump's use of state National Guard troops, arguing it is illegal and driven by political motives. The complaint alleges Trump is exaggerating protest threats to justify federal overreach and seize control of state forces. The case has been reassigned to Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee.Bonamici, whose district includes much of Portland, made her critical remarks during a press conference with Oregon Governor Tina Kotek. The Department of Justice cited her comments in its request for Simon's recusal, arguing they could undermine public confidence in judicial impartiality.A hearing is scheduled for Friday on Oregon's request for a temporary restraining order. Similar legal challenges are underway in California and Washington, D.C., where federal troop deployments have also faced pushback. A California judge previously ruled Trump's actions unlawful, but that decision is currently on hold pending appeal. The D.C. case remains unresolved.Judge recuses himself from Oregon National Guard case | ReutersThis week's closing theme is by Ludwig van Beethoven, a composer of some note. This week, we close with Franz Liszt's transcription (S. 464) of the first movement—Allegro con brio—from Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21. Originally premiered in 1800, this symphony marked Beethoven's formal debut in the genre, and even in its first movement, we hear the young composer testing the boundaries of the Classical form inherited from Haydn and Mozart. The opening chords start in the “wrong” key—a bold harmonic gesture that signaled Beethoven's intent to shake things up, even as he worked within a familiar structure.Liszt, the great 19th-century virtuoso and composer, took on the monumental task of transcribing all nine of Beethoven's symphonies for solo piano. The transcription of the First Symphony, catalogued as S. 464, is part of that sweeping project. These arrangements were not simply meant to showcase Liszt's pianistic brilliance (though they certainly do); they were a way to bring Beethoven's orchestral works into the drawing rooms and salons of Europe—before widespread orchestral performance or recording technology. In Liszt's hands, the Allegro con brio becomes a brilliant piano showpiece, retaining the symphony's rhythmic drive, thematic clarity, and structural ingenuity. He translates orchestral texture into ten fingers with remarkable fidelity, using tremolos, arpeggios, and dramatic dynamic shifts to recreate the energy of strings, winds, and brass. The transcription is virtuosic but never flashy for its own sake—it's an homage from one revolutionary to another.Beethoven's First Symphony bridges the Classical and Romantic eras, and Liszt's solo piano version builds a new bridge, connecting orchestral grandeur to the intimacy of a single performer. It's a reminder of both composers' commitment to pushing musical expression forward. As you listen, you may forget it's just one person at a piano—Liszt makes the entire orchestra sing.We leave you this week not only with Beethoven's bold opening statement to the symphonic world, but with Liszt's brilliant act of translation—a distillation of power, wit, and elegance, all under a single keyboard.Without further ado, Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21 – the first movement. Episode Notes In this episode of Talent Experience Live, we sit down with Alistair Neal of RedDot, recorded during last week's HR Tech conference, where he reflects on the big themes shaping the show floor and the reality behind the AI buzz. Neal discusses how to ask the right questions to separate genuine innovation from marketing hype, emphasizing that automation should eliminate tedious tasks like note-taking so recruiters can spend more time engaging with talent. The conversation explores the evolving candidate experience—while AI has made it easier to apply for jobs, Neal cautions that employers must focus on quality over volume, improve communication with job seekers, and remain vigilant against spam or fraudulent applications while ensuring a human remains in the loop at every step.

Knoxville Convention Center Free to GOA members https://events.goa.org/goals/ - Dear WLS A-in-your-face. WLS is life - Long story short, I had a medical event while on vacation in Mexico and the care there sucked! (I do not recommend) A med kit wouldn't have helped my situation much but it got me thinking. In the states when I travel via vehicle, I always have at least one pretty stocked med kit on me. But I have never thought to take a minimum of supplies when I fly on vacation or when I travel to other countries. What things would you recommend in a travel kit, at a minimum? Thinking that you dont have your vehicle, might be in another country, and may have restrictions on the things you bring? I am thinking a small minimum kit of a couple essentials would be smart... #no_notes Sean M - Suppressor Mount Question, I'm putting together a BRN180 with an 10.5" 5.56 barrel and have a Griffin GP7 ready to go. Being that it will need a thread adapter (from 1/2-28 to 5/8-24) would it be better to pin and weld or silver solder that setup? A-ARONS lost foot - I recently bought my first lever action gun and I don't know to go Red Dot route or if I should go lpbo route. I bought a Marlin 1895 BL and 4570 and in terms of use case, it's going to be arranged toy. Thanks my dudes Alex W - I've been listening to this podcast every week for 5 years. How the fuck did I not know that Shawn and Jeremy play DnD?? Dane G - Hello wls. First off love the show guys. Looking at starting a home ffl. Was thinking of using rocketffl to get started. I think Shawn used them to get started and was wondering the process of it. I know you use an office space, would you recommend that so my home address isn't public? Feel like that's putting a huge target on my home. Thanks guys. Ps. If I was gay I'd suck your titties Shawn. Dutch Walker - My Mitchell Defense story. Roughly a year ago, I picked up a Mitchell Defense rifle in 6 ARC. I was excited when they started offering this caliber, especially after hearing high praise from Shawn and Nick. An interview with Nathan Mitchell, the company's founder, sealed the deal, and I ordered one right away.First Impressions out of the box, the rifle looked fantastic, the components were of high quality and I was eager to take it to the range. The rifle ran smoothly, cycling perfectly with or without a suppressor. But when I tested its accuracy my groups at 100 yards were consistently over 3 inches, no matter the ammo. To make sure it wasn't me, I shot other ARs, including another in 6 ARC, and got sub-MOA groups. I contacted Mitchell Defense, and Nathan himself called me to talk through the issue. He immediately sent an RMA for the upper. His team wasn't satisfied with its performance either, so they upgraded me to a Proof carbon fiber barrel at no extra cost—a serious step up. Unfortunately, the new barrel had the same problem. I'd get three shots grouped tightly, but two would stray 2-3 inches in random directions. I sent Nathan photos of my groups, and he replied with some troubleshooting tips. Sometime later, when I emailed him to let him know I was heading to the range to try his suggestions, he called again. This time, he said they'd found an issue with certain Proof barrels and sent another RMA. A few weeks ago, I got my rifle back with a new Proof barrel. Last weekend, despite 17-20 mph crosswinds,

Everyone has Red Dot Fever now. Are optics on handguns the end all be all? During our Tech Talk from EOTech Inc. we will consider the ins and outs of modern optics on handguns. Recently, Shooting New Weekly published an excerpt from an article written by Professor Paul regarding shooting games and whether or not playing games prepares us for the realities of life and death encounters. Also, during our SOTG Homeroom from Student of the Gun University, Paul will discuss the ongoing discussion about “point shooting” versus “aimed fire”. Can you teach yourself to point shoot? Sure. Does that apply to 95 percent of the deadly force scenarios you may encounter? Double Tap Episode 399 This episode of Double Tap is brought to you by: Brownells, Midwest Industries, Gideon Optics, Night Fision, Bowers Group, and Matador Arms Welcome to Double Tap, episode 399! Your hosts tonight are Jeremy Pozderac, Aaron Krieger, Nick Lynch, and me Shawn Herrin, welcome to the show! Dear WLS Joe Rogan the Third - Yo guys,While cruising the country side i was curious about what song yall would play on your way to go fuck shit up. This isn't specifically for end of times stuff but maybe more like roughing up the guy that touched your daughter or family member wrong. Mine would be Death Deathwalk by Pop Evil.ve the show #NoNotes Ooooooo Kay...Hey Guys! JayWeth (Josh) from Squad Drills and "The MacBros Show" on FRN. My co-host (Darius) and I were sent a question recently and we wanted to get your perspective. What makes a gun superior over another? Also, what do you think should be the standard for handgun manufacturers ala Jon Patton's Standards(capacity, optic cut, light rail, magazines, etc.)? If a handgun doesn't meet this standard, will you refuse to purchase it in the future? Love the show and thanks for all the support on FRN. Note - No notes. Desert Deagleton - I'm looking for a new suppressor host. Can you guys recommend an interesting or unique 22 rifle with a 16” barrel? I'd prefer something manually operated or a single shot as I already have 2 10/22s and a Charger. Ron H - For your carry pistol, if you could only have one of two accessories, which would the cast choose. Optic or Light. To clarify, when stating Optic it is regarding a Red Dot or other colored (yes, colored) electronic optic. You may still have your selection of Iron sights. For Light, I am specifically referring to a weapon mounted light and not a handheld. Many instructors and even the cast discuss the importance of a WML for PID. And to make it more fun, you can each pick your recommendation to support your decision. I know we all want a Crimson Trace duo on our guns, but we can't have it all sometimes now that I have to put menthol cigarettes back in my budget. #WLSisLife #jeremyisacunt #shootatsounds Hugmuffin Actual - My wife bought me one of your epic bright pink Camorado Highgarden shirts for Christmas, and it manages to make me look even more handsome than usual. Now that you are a high-end fashion producer mentioned in the same breath as "Vercase", "Lagerfeld" and "Dior", what were some of the trials and tribulations you encountered while bringing your Camorado clothing line into the world? PS - Please give Aaron a big hug; he cops a lot of flack but we would all be lost without him.Cheers, Hugmuffin Gay and Retarded - Now that we can say gay and retarded again I was wondering how do we define gay and how do we define retarded? Can something be just gay or just retarded or is it a package deal? Do they even have precise definitions or is it more of a "I know it when I see it" kind of thing? Roger H - Trump and Congress need to pass a federal castle doctrine then any American citizen(Jeremy) can have a stateside. Many states have one for its citizens why can't this be federal then we can protect our home. America is mine and your home. happy humperdinkel - 9.3x62 is it enough for deer? I want one for some reason and trying to justify it. no knots. Chris M - So it's been a little while, is the ACE VR worth it? Have you noticed real-life improvements? Looks like a blast but a little pricey for a video game. The winner of this week's swag pack is happy humperdinkel! To win your own, go to welikeshooting.com/dashboard and submit a question!
