A new survey has revealed that one in three Australians would consider a 40-year mortgage term to reduce payments. A comparison site, Finder, surveyed more than 1000 Australians and found that 30 percent would take on the mega mortgage if it reduced repayments to an affordable level. 9News Money Editor, Effie Zahos, told Gary Hardgrave on 4BC Drive, "Affordability is a big issue, isn't it? People trying to get into a property can't afford it." "So when you do the sums, if you took out a mortgage, typically it's 25 years or 30 years, it's moved slightly up." "If you're going to use the whole 40 years, well, boy, you're going to be paying that house over and over again," Ms Zahos continued. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The RBA board is expected to cut the cash rate for the first time in five years. The big four banks are all forecasting a 25-basis-point drop from 4.35 down to 4.1 per cent, but will the savings be passed onto borrowers? 9News Money Editor Effie Zahos told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "You've got to remember households have been doing the heavy lifting." "The government's been spending like there's no tomorrow and it's the households, the renters, the mortgage owners that are really pulled back to get these inflation numbers heading in the right direction," Effie Zahos said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We find the wins in an otherwise difficult week on progress for women at work, given what's happened in parliament. We look at a new app for reporting racism and sexual misconduct, the Hollywood actors calling out ageism, and share an excellent interview with Effie Zahos, author and one of Australia's leading personal finance commentators. But also this week we delve into the 'dehumanising' of sexual assault victim-survivors that has occurred via the media and in politics, and whether women are being sent a message to 'watch out'. Finally, we examine the research finding that when men believe they are allies, women often disagree.
