In this episode, we dive into how the ultra-right has co-opted Indiana Fever's rookie sensation, Caitlin Clark, as a symbol in their culture war against the left. We'll explore the ongoing tension between Stephen A. Smith and WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes — who is right in the debate over whether Caitlin Clark deserves credit for her team's success and the league's rising profile? Is there resentment among Black women who have built the WNBA, only to see Caitlin hailed as the one elevating it to new heights? We'll also get into Shannon Sharpe's response to Nancy Lieberman's comments and examine Caitlin Clark's phenomenal rookie season, her stats, and why she's a lock for Rookie of the Year and a serious contender for MVP. This week on New Release (episode #147 overall and #2—of 2—in our SUNDANCE ‘03 miniseries) … local yokels Ashley and Drew go all-in on the indie experience. All the Real Girls is a sweet slice of Southern life starring Paul Schneider (who you may know from Parks & Rec), Zooey Deschanel, and Danny ‘Bust-Ass' McBride. There's a naturalism and beauty to the way writer-director David Gordon Green captures his subjects in their natural habitat. Is it slow? Sure. Quirky? Check. Does the dialogue feel improvised half the time? Damn skippy. It's got all the hallmarks of a Sundance special. If you like a little codeine in your coffee, you've come to the right place. We are officially BACK! And what better way to kick off our new season than with Mary-Kate and Ashley doing the thing they love most: fashion! On February 28th, 2001, Mary-Kate and Ashley debuted their much-anticipated fashion line at Walmart with a half hour fashion show on Fox (ABC?) Family called "Fashion Forward." The show was hosted by the twins and their costars from Winning London, Eric Jungmann and Brandon Tyler. It also featured musical performances by an obscure band called Gotti 13, "behind the scenes" of the making of the show, and interviews with Mary-Kate, Ashley, and their costume designer Judy Swartz.Lani taped this TV special when she was a kid, but Becca had never seen it until now as an adult. And we'll just say, some things don't hold up so well. The pushing of heteronormativity on pre-teen girls is especially jarring to watch now and leads us to a long discussion on what exactly was meant by "Real Fashion for Real Girls." We also talk about what the Mary-Kate and Ashley Walmart line meant to us as kids and the great power of celebrity clothing lines. Also, we've officially launched our Patreon! Jane Bennett is a powerhouse in the menstrual education world. Having been working to support women and children with understanding their fertility and contraception naturally for many decades, she has empowered multiple generations to take back their bodies, and be well educated and informed to make informed choices for both understanding and supporting fertility, and contraception that doesn't need to involve taking hormonal birth control.I loved meeting Jane for the first time - its such a perk of doing this podcast, I get to have conversations with people I admire, respect and have learned from such as Jane. We spoke about Jane's mission and journey to creating her legacy that she's built, what the different types of contraception are and how they work, why you might want to consider not taking hormonal birth control, how to come off birth control and what that might be like, and how we can share information with teens so they can make informed choices for themselves. About Jane Jane Bennett Menstrual educator and author With a background in social work and clinical hypnotherapy Jane has worked with Natural Fertility Management since 1990. In 2000 Jane created Celebration Day for Girls, a program for 10-12 year-old girls with their mothers, and later Fathers Celebrating Daughters for dads. In 2012 she began to train facilitators to run these popular programs in their own communities, which are now available in over 25 countries. Jane is the author of A Blessing Not a Curse and Girltopia: A World of Real Conversations for Real Girls, and the co-author of About Bloody Time: The Menstrual Revolution We Have to Have, The Pill: Are You Sure It's For You?, The Complete Guide to Optimum Conception, The Natural Fertility Management Contraception Kit, The Rite Journey Program and Guidebooks and Woman Wise Conversation Cards. "All the Real Girls" is probably David Gordon Green's most underrated film and one of his best if you don't count "Pineapple Express", that of course was a hit but it's a comedy and it's easier for a comedy to make it than a drama, especially like a romantic drama. It's probably one of my favorite "indie" films of all time. I explain why this film is worth the watch. This isn't your average romance drama. This is an indie film where Green fires on all cylinders, expressing emotions through visuals with the lack of time and space. No one is perfect in this film and that itself is realism at its core. I also briefly talk about the existentialism in the characters, they connect almost in a spiritual way.

The Script Doctor is - IN! Today's patient is 'Star Trek: Discovery,' a show which has suffered from erratic writing since its inception. Burnham goes from hot-headed rule violator to Starfleet captain and Booker steals Staments job without anyone addressing the need to design a mechanical connection to Discovery's spore drive. 'Discovery' Season Three spends too much time with Tal and Gray and not enough time with the Season Boss Osyraa. Why Am I Doing This Review? Wonder Woman is who I aspire to be -- beautiful and strong. She wants to save the world and believes in humanity. I love her for this. I love female superheroes and I really enjoyed the first Wonder Woman film. I wanted to watch WW84 to see what it was about -- director Patty Jenkins said it would contain a message badly needed in these times and I think needing the message is what drew me to this movie more than anything else. People hating WW84 don't understand its theme and tone. They don't understand how it links to the first movie. They only wanted to see Diana kick more ass on a battlefield for two hours. Too many folks are talking down on this movie and I'm fed up. Deep and funny show with Achea Redd about keeping it real when it comes to our mental health!Achea Redd is a mental health advocate, author of “Be Free Be You” and founder of Real Girls F.A.R.T.In early 2016, Achea Redd was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. After hiding her condition out of fear and shame, Achea quickly realized it was only getting worse, affecting her physically to the point of a nervous breakdown. It wasn’t until she acknowledged the situation with her loved ones, seeking out treatment from her therapist and doctor, that things started to get better. As a form of self-expression and healing, Achea Redd created her own blog, sharing her feelings about mental health and authenticity. The flow of support she received from the community compelled her to create Real Girls F.A.R.T.—a space to empower and equip women with the necessary tools to use their voices and become their best, most authentic selves. With her book to release this summer in 2019, Achea uses her life experience and mental health disorder to help women find their voice and let it out. She is the official sponsor of Nationwide Children’s Hospital On Our Sleeves Movement.www.realgirlsfart.com

REAL GIRLS, REAL SUCCESS CONVENTION: https://www.therealherproject.com/real-girls-real-success-convention Today we go deep on negative self talk. What is it? How does it show up? What forms are there and how do we begin to combat it? Because if we don't take control of our thoughts, we will always be defined and consumed by them, especially the negative ones. It is imperative as you continue to fight for your dreams, that you believe in them too. REAL GIRLS, REAL SUCCESS CONVENTION: https://www.therealherproject.com/real-girls-real-success-convention Today is a bit of a debrief after our 10 weeks of manifestation series. When it comes to manifestation, we only see all the success, but what happens when it doesn't go to plan and the universe says no? Every Monday, Therapist Ryan Engelstad, and Producer Mike Graham, take an example from Pop Culture (i.e. Books, Movies, TV Shows) that features a Mental Health problem, and determine if the portrayal is accurate and something we can use as an example for those with questions or even curiosity, or if the depiction of the issue is exaggerated and just for entertainment. Lars, played by actor, Ryan Gosling, has an obvious mental health issue in this movie, and Ryan (Engelstad, not Gosling) thinks it shows signs of Schizoid Personality Disorder. Personality disorders are complicated in that, the person with the disorder, is usually unaware. In "Lars and the Real Girl", Lars believes that a full-sized, plastic doll is a real person, and his girlfriend. Mike has a lot of questions as to the reality of Lars' delusion and how his family, and the community around him, reacts. Ryan and Mike talk a lot about finding support, and how people would actually react to this in real life. Also, they give us a bit about their backgrounds and how they met, and Mike lets the world know, that he is a sufferer of Mental Illness himself; a person diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder. Mike believes things are getting much easier as far as public opinion of Mental Health is concerned, but knows there is a lot of work to do, yet. It's Mental Health Awareness Week, and the goal of Pop Psych 101, is to aid in the conversation and help normalize it's discussion. As usual, to end the Episode, Ryan rates the portrayal of the Mental Health issue at hand on a scale of 1 to 5, using "Real Girls" as his rating system, this time. Mike rates the movie, as a movie, on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. Find Us: Mental Health Podcast | Pop Psych 101 We have a Blog! Ryan always had a Blog!
