And then, as men begin turning up murdered first in Colorado and then in Texas, the police connect their killer to the little boy's father. When Ida Stutzman perished in a barn fire on a warm summer night in 1977, her husband Eli's side of the story didn't add up from the start. But the Stutzmans were part of the Amish community. The very nature of their insular world meant the suspicious nature of Ida's death went unspoken for many years. They rarely talk to outsiders, which is why author Greg Olsen had his work cut out for him when penning his latest book The Amish Wife. But slowly, with the help of his researcher Robin Lassen, a story of cover-up, lies and an investigation that never stood a chance started to reveal itself. There has only ever been one recorded serial killer who identified as Amish and that was a man named Eli Stutzman. A man who seemed to bring death and destruction wherever he went. As his Amish Community and authorities spent nearly a decade attempting to track him down, Eli evaded capture and that resulted in the deaths of at least 5 people. In this gripping episode of "Criminal Conduct," we delve into the intriguing case of Ida Stutzman's death, as explored in bestselling author Gregg Olsen's latest book, “The Amish Wife.” Gregg shares his personal journey with this case, which has captivated him for decades and inspired his very first book. Reflecting on his early days as a young, believing writer, he reveals how his perspective on seeking truth has evolved over the years. The episode uncovers the mystery surrounding Ida's death, initially dismissed and swept under the rug, and Gregg's firm belief in her husband Eli Stutzman's guilt. It's a poignant discussion about how personal the journey became for him, transforming from a simple investigation into a mission to correct a longstanding wrong. In his 1990 true crime classic, Abandoned Prayers, Olsen delivered “a riveting and deeply disturbing chronicle” (Cleveland Plain Dealer) of “Little Boy Blue”—nine-year-old Danny, found dead in a Nebraska cornfield, whose errant father, former Amish man Eli Stutzman, had a racked up a wild history of sexual profligacy, pornography, and drugs. Years before, Stutzman's pregnant wife, Ida, had died under bizarre and suspicious circumstances. Yet Eli, shrouded by the encircling privacy of the Amish and small-town law enforcement negligence, was never charged, or even an official suspect in her death.Gregg Olsen has long been haunted by Ida Stutzman's shady death and the role Eli must have played in it. In THE AMISH WIFE: Unraveling the Lies, Secrets, and Conspiracy That Let a Killer Go Free (Thomas and Mercer; January 1, 2024), Olsen returns to the Ohio Amish community where the young woman perished in a barn fire, her death deemed “natural causes.” Eli would sell up and leave town soon after, launched on the sexual odyssey that would eventually lead to Danny's death, as well as Eli's conviction for his roommate's murder.Determined to discover the truth and seek justice for Ida—and urged on by Ida's brother—Olsen reopens the door into Eli Stutzman's dark life of debauchery and deception. He revisits many of the witnesses that he first met and interviewed when researching Abandoned Prayers, as well as numerous new voices, discovering many facts and suspicions long held secret by the pious, closed-mouth Amish community. Olson tracks down Ida and Eli's relatives and friends, as well as Eli's lovers and sex partners. He finds that many in this world where families and associations are inextricably intertwined have quietly believed that Eli killed Ida, yet few are willing to publicly judge.Returning to the investigation around Ida's death, Olsen pokes holes in the medical postmortem. Perhaps most significantly, he delves into the questionable work of Sheriff Jim Frost, a charismatic, opportunistic lawman who lived a closeted homosexual life and may have, for a time, been Eli Stutzman's lover. How much did Jim Frost cover up, either intentionally or subconsciously, to shield the truth about Eli and their shared sexuality at a time when small town life for gay men was confining and even dangerous? How complicit does that make Frost in the numerous deaths Eli left in his wake? Did the conspiracy of silence among the members of the Amish community indirectly allow Ida's and the other deaths to occur?Leaving no stone unturned and unfolding with one chilling revelation after another, THE AMISH WIFE is vintage reportage from the writer New York Times bestselling author Caitlin Rother calls, “one of today's true-crime masters."

The Amish community, they live their lives in simplistic but religiously dedicated ways. Separate from the modern world, the Amish hold themselves to a high standard of living. However, they are not exempt from the temptations that life has to offer, for they are just people too. In this first episode of a two part series, we cover three cases of Amish men that gave into their baser instincts and betrayed not only their communities, but the loved ones closest to them. They say that the road to Heaven is paved with good intentions, however for these murderous men, it is paved with self indulgence, narcissism, and blood. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

On Christmas Eve 1985, in Chester, Nebraska the body of a child was found abandoned in a field, wearing only blue sleeper pajamas. The community of Chester was overwhelmed with concern for the child, and he was nicknamed “Little Boy Blue”. It took a couple of years, and only after a story was published in “Reader's Digest” in 1987, that Little Boy Blue's true identity became known. He belonged to an Amish family. A full investigation into the boy's father, Eli Stutzman, would reveal the first known Amish serial killer.THANK YOU to our episode sponsor, Surfshark. Story Time Podcast presents the story that originated as "Little Boy Blue" and was just one twist to the story of Eli Stutzman's life. Danny Stutzman is found dead on the side of the road Christmas Eve and for two years could not be identified. It was much harder due to his Amish background. When they did identify him and take a closer look at his father Eli, he is tied to the murder of 3 gay men and the death of his pregnant wife Ida (Danny's mother) was looking suspicious too. Many say had Eli not been Amish...he couldn't have gotten away with what he had so long. Murder Incorporated Pod brings you what might be the craziest case we have covered to date. Eli Stutzman was a misunderstood young man with a great deal of mental health issues. His strict father used every tool in his domineering arsenal to to try and control Eli and make him a "good amish". Let's just say that he went in the opposite direction.....Check us out to hear the whole story!MurderIncorporatedPod@Gmal.com@MurderIncPod on Twitter Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/murderincorporated)
Libro Clara: https://www.edizioniunderground.it/no... This week, Amy and Chris bring you three murders committed in the typically peaceful Amish community. The first is about Ed Gingerich, a mentally ill man who brutally murdered and disemboweled his wife Katie. Ed had frightened many people within his community before the murder due to his unhinged behavior, enough to the point that they resorted to calling 9-1-1. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and placed on medication, but he ultimately stopped taking it, which only made his state of mind worse. Ed was convicted of manslaughter and spent a little over 2 years in prison, despite community members pleading with authorities to keep Ed institutionalized. In the second case, Amy the killer Eli Stutzman, often known as a potential Amish serial killer. Eli was a closeted gay man living in an extremely devout Amish community. He was also a pathological liar, so the details of his life and whereabouts are difficult to verify. What is certain is that Eli became a person of interest after several murdered bodies were discovered that had connections to Eli, including his own son, Danny Stutzman, who he abandoned in a ditch. Finally, Chris details the story of the self-described "Amish Stud" Eli Weaver. Despite being married and having 5 children, Eli scoured the internet for women to sleep with, causing a lot of strife within his community. Eli's addiction to cheating ultimately became a horrific crime. Eli was able to convince his mistress, Barbara Raber, to shoot Eli's wife Barbara Weaver as she slept in their bed.Send your true crime suggestions to hello@truecrimerecaps!Support the show AND listen ad-free here!: https://truecrimerecaps.supercast.tech/Follow TCR on YouTube here!Follow TCR on Instagram here!Follow TCR on Facebook here! The Amish community is known for their fanatical wholesomeness, as well as their authoritarian rules – rules which not everyone can conform to. Eli Stutzman, Jr. was one such person who didn't agree with the rules, but what happened when his rebellion against the Amish Church and his father went too far? Did the Amish make him the man he was? Or was he born that way?
