Tonight we're chatting with the co-creators of a new graphic novel project called THE MATRON, co-authors David Bowles and Drew Edwards and artist Monica Gallagher. They all have amazing resumes and I have spoken many times with David, who besides being an Eisner-nominated comic creator and author of some forty books, presently serves as the president of the Texas Institute of Letters and co-editor-in-chief of Chispa Comics. And I speak regularly with Drew, who is a Best of Austin award-winner, two-time Ringo nominee creator of the comic Halloween Man. But it is my great pleasure to for the first time speak to Monica Gallagher, a Ringo Award winner for Assassin Roommate and has co-created numerous series including The Black Ghost and Anti-Stepbrother, not to mention a number of indy series. For fans of PEARL, HACK/SLASH, and YELLOWJACKETS—The Matron, Volume 1: A Wind that Kills is a 52-page horror graphic novel from award-winning creators David Bowles and Drew Edwards. Jason chats with Halloween Man creator Drew Edwards on the Indiegogo to support Terry parr, creator of the comic Aerobicide with the Aerobicide/Lucy Chaplin Science Starlet Crossover. Find the indiegogo here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aerobicide-lucy-chaplin-science-starlet-crossover#/Says Drew:Everybody knows the last year has been filled with unprecedented challenges. It felt like Covid-19 changed the world overnight and we all were just in a rush to keep up with those changes. Some of us were hit harder than others. Terry Parr is a father, husband, and comic creator. I’ve been proud to call Terry a friend and creative partner for the better part of two decades. He is extremely talented, imaginative, and a wizard with a pencil. He is like a brother to me. So, of course, when he got sick, I knew I had to help him. Like so many, Terry was hit with high medical bills after contracting Covid-19. Thankfully a solution presented itself in the form of an indie comics crossover between my own Lucy Chaplin: Science Starlet and Terry’s Aerobicide. Based on a story originating from myself and Terry, I have gathered a talented creative team to bring this tale to life. This comic has it all, bodacious babes, pop culture references, gallows humor, and of course PUNK ROCK ZOMBIES! Best of all, proceeds from this crowdfund will be going to help the Parr family cover Terry’s medical bills.

Drew Edwards is writer of the long running underground comic series Halloween Man and winner of the 2018 BEST OF AUSTIN AWARD from the Austin Chronicle. He's launching a new arc of the ongoing Halloween Man series starting this month with Issue #18, a set of stand-alones called Halloween Man: Ugly America. The arc is a satirical look that calls to mind the famed Swamp Thing series American Gothic, in which Halloween Man brushes up against angry citizens out to summon demons and an issue on school shootings. Meanwhile, Edwards will be kicking off a year of celebrating Halloween Man's 20th Anniversary with a "Halloween Man: Road to 20 Years Kickoff Party" in Austin at Flamingo Cantina, evening October 19, benefiting Girls Rock Austin and Out Youth.
