In this episode of Serial Streamers Jami and Jessi discuss the Netflix documentary, “The Perfect Neighbor.” This disturbing documentary highlights the case of Ajika Owens, who was gunned down by her neighbor Susan Lorincz, through the lens of real life video footage from police body cams and interrogation room video cameras. Lorincz was a known “Karen” in the neighborhood, often calling police to report children playing near her home and causing what she perceived as a disturbance. It all came to a boiling point when Lorincz retrieved her gun and shot Ajike through the front door of her (Lorincz's home). Jami and Jessi don't hold back on their opinions of Lorincz and describe how this documentary was one of the most difficult for them to watch. On Halloween night 2004, roommates Adriane Insogna, Leslie Mazzara and Lauren Meanza handed out candy to trick-or-treaters. The three women settled in for bed around 10:30 PM anticipating a typical start to their work week the next morning. Lauren was awoken out of a deep sleep at 2:00 a.m. when her dog started barking. Moments later, she heard a blood-curdling scream coming from upstairs. She tried to call for help but there was no dial tone. Lauren managed to get outside of the house and hide in a row of bushes as she heard the sound of someone scampering away from the home and into the darkness. Lauren went back inside to find her two friends, Adriane and Leslie, lying unresponsive in pools of blood. Investigators got to work trying to find the person who broke into the home at 2631 Dorset Street in the middle of the night and murdered two women, but they set out on the wrong track from the onset. Adriane and Leslie's killer walked among them for over a year undiscovered. When authorities finally did uncover the killer's identity, they learned his motive was connected to a love interest …but not one involving either of his victims. Although the timing of the grisly crimes was uncanny, the double-homicide had nothing to do with Halloween. On March 20, 2005, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Dewayne Graham Jr. had just finished a shift when he was fatally gunned down in his own driveway. When a suspect was arrested days later, there was little doubt that investigators had caught the sergeant's cold-blooded killer. But a question rang out that still resonates to this day: should there have been doubt? Or was it easier for investigators to craft their own narrative and fill in the details later? Four months have passed since a jury acquitted Karen Read for the murder of Boston police officer John O'Keefe. Some involved in the three-year saga have seen their reputations permanently tarnished. Others are riding the case's notoriety to newfound fame and monetary rewards. The obvious question remains: if Karen Read didn't kill John O'Keefe, who did? Scrutiny has swung from the accused to the accusers: the Canton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and Norfolk County District Attorney's Office. As for Karen, there's no indication she plans to leave the spotlight. A movie is in the works. So is a tell-all book. Then again, so is a civil trial in which she stands to lose tens of thousands in future proceeds. For John's loved ones and many others, the drama is far from over—it's just entered a new, equally contentious chapter. For decades, opinions have been divided regarding capital punishment. No matter which side of the issue you're on, one question tends to haunt even the most opinionated: What if someone slated for execution is factually innocent? Can we ever be certain the right person is being put to death? In November 2000, 27-year-old James Mosqueda and his fiancee, 22-year-old Amy Kitchen, were gunned down in their upscale north Dallas home. When a suspect was arrested, it seemed like an open-and-shut case. But was it really as straightforward as it seemed on the surface? Or is it possible the couple's killer continues to evade justice? On July 23rd, 2025, Bryan Kohberger was about to be sentenced to life behind bars for the murder of four University of Idaho college students. The November 2022 slayings of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, and Maddie Mogen shocked the entire nation. The four friends had crashed after a night of partying when Kohberger, a graduate student at nearby Washington State University, snuck into their off-campus home through an unlocked sliding-glass door and killed them all with a large knife. Prosecutors had cut a deal with the devil. After months of asserting his innocence, Kohberger, 30, agreed to plead guilty to four counts of murder and one count of burglary, and to waive all rights to any appeal. In return, he'd avoid the gas chamber. For some, particularly the loved ones of 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves, it was a bitter pill to swallow. Kohberger, they believed, deserved to die for his crimes. Following the initial shock of the news, the remaining victims' families said they supported the deal. From their viewpoint, Kohberger would spend the rest of his life in prison and they wouldn't have to spend the rest of theirs attending courtroom hearings listening to lawyers squabble over technicalities. Before authorities sent Kohberger on a one-way trip to the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, family members of Ethan, Xana, Kaylee, and Maddie had one opportunity to face him at sentencing. It was an opportunity they did not take lightly, resulting in one of the most unforgettable and jaw-dropping courtroom scenes in recent memory. In this episode of Say Yes to the Mess Jami and Jessi catch up on The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 19 and Real Housewives of Miami Season 7, with a Below Deck special mention. Jami explains, passionately (of course), why some of the OC and Miami ladies are on her sh*t list, while Jessi logically explains why some of their insufferable behavior is EXACTLY WHY she tunes in each week. The ladies chat about the water-toss on Miami, Stephanie's exhausting “new-money” energy, how Guerdy and Katie are being held to a different standard, and which Housewives are currently providing the most comic relief. Jami and Jessi give a special mention to the current season of Below Deck (season 12) because they think it's one of the best seasons in the show's history. When she was found battered and fatally stabbed inside her own home, it felt like a deeply tragic end to an already difficult life. For better or worse, love can be the ultimate motivator. It can make people feel invincible, emboldened to chase after their greatest ambitions. On the flipside, love can turn toxic and drive a person to do things they never thought they would. On July 5th 2003, 37-year-old Sandra “Sandee” Rozzo was gunned down in the Pinellas Park home she shared with her boyfriend. Was this a case of love gone wrong? Or something else entirely? As law enforcement began their investigation an entire community was set on edge, fearing they could be next. On a crisp evening in April 2023, 20-year-old Alexa Bartell was driving to her girlfriend's house. The two were on the phone together, when suddenly, the call dropped. Alexa's girlfriend, Jenna Griggs, tried calling Alexa back several times but the call went straight to voicemail. When Jenna opened the Find My Friends app, she saw something alarming. It appeared as though Alexa's vehicle had veered off the road and into a wildlife refuge, and wasn't moving. When Jenna reached Alexa's location, she'd be faced with devastating news. Alexa had been killed. Someone had thrown a large landscaping rock through her windshield, killing the young woman instantly. Like it or not, Todd and Julie Chrisley are out of prison, way ahead of schedule, thanks to President Trump's pardon. It seems like the short 28 months they did spend in federal prison didn't do much to change their narrative, however. Just two days after Todd and Julie's release from their respective prisons, Todd held a press conference where he proclaimed that he was convicted of something he didn't do, and that there was a tremendous amount of misconduct by the government during the investigation and trial. This, even though the district court judge who oversaw their trial didn't buy the Chrisleys' allegations of prosecutorial misconduct, the jury certainly didn't hear any proof of it, and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals also didn't find that there was misconduct on the government's part… or on the part of the district court judge who oversaw the trial. The Chrisleys have already done a few sit-down interviews, and have had cameras filming their every move since the moment they exited prison. There's also a new TV show set to release this year, and hints of others to come. Will viewers be able to see through the lies and manipulation, particularly in the interviews the Chrisleys have done recently? Will Todd and Julie be able to win back their reality TV following and line their pockets with millions as if none of this ever happened, or will America wise up, see through their bullsh*t, and finally send the Chrisleys into obscurity? Jami has been closely following this case since 2023, and Jessi was somewhat aware of it given its virality and media exposure. Jami and Jessi talk through the most fascinating aspects of this case, and don't hold back with their opinions regarding the investigation, the trials, the Alberts, McCabes, Brian Higgins and Turtle Boy. Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted in June 2022, after a mountain of solid evidence was presented to the jury. The Chrisleys were finally going to be held accountable for their schemes. It'd been a long time coming, especially if you take into consideration the many years Todd and Julie stiffed contractors and vendors along the way, or the homeowners who were scammed after putting their trust in the Chrisleys. The only question that remained was how long would they spend behind bars? I don't think anyone could have predicted that Todd and his son Grayson would appear on TikTok together just two years after being sent to prison. This was made possible after President Trump stepped in. Follow Jami Rice on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube @JamiOnAir to keep up with true crime cases she's weighing in on. On a frigid February day in 1974, 25-year-old graduate student Mary Schlais stuck out her thumb to hitch a ride. She planned to travel from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Madison, Wisconsin and then make her way north to Chicago to attend an art show. Back then, it was common for young people to rely on the kindness of strangers for transportation. Hitchhiking around the Twin Cities was something Mary did regularly. That cold February day was the last time anyone saw the free-spirited woman alive. Mary's body was discovered later that day, but it would be more than 50 years before her killer was tracked down through genetic genealogy. Todd and Julie Chrisley's reality TV show, “Chrisley Knows Best,” became popular, in part, for their apparent family values. They were often seen on the show trying to teach their children how to be good Christians and live moral, honest lives. But we know that Todd acted one way on the TV show and a whole other way off camera, in a sort of a “do as I say, not as I do” lifestyle. From the vulgar and disturbing things Todd allegedly said and did to numerous employees at his company, to the well-documented threats Todd made to his own daughter when she dared to go against his alleged demands for her to lie about a Georgia Department of Revenue employee, to the allegations of violence leveled against Todd by his ex-wife …Todd Chrisley was a less than stellar example for his kids. Julie may not have been so brash about her moral imperfections, but she did her share of lying and cheating which was also documented in police reports and court documents. Yet, what most of the public knew about the Chrisleys were the life lessons they preached on their TV show. Todd said to his youngest child on one of their episodes “there's never a right way to do the wrong thing.” It's RICH of Todd to say this knowing that the episode was filmed after he and Julie were indicted on federal tax evasion and bank fraud charges, and were awaiting trial. If the Chrisleys actually practiced what they preached, perhaps they never would've lied to and scammed so many people over the years, let alone be accused of being the ringleaders of a years-long $36,000,000 fraud scheme. But as we're about to find out, the Chrisley's don't seem to think the rules apply to them. From 2014 to 2017 Todd and Julie Chrisley were riding high on the success of “Chrisley Knows Best.” But fans had no idea about Todd and Julie's extensive criminal history, lawsuits, or exactly what the bankruptcies entailed because all of those things happened before the Chrisley's fame, when no one was paying attention. In 2017, however, everyone would be paying attention as that was the year that began the Chrisley family's eventual fall from grace. Todd appeared in the media spouting tales of government corruption, and proclaiming that he and Julie were the real victims. Todd took to his social media and podcast to personally attack people involved in cases against him. What began in 2017 would be a several-years-long process that culminated in Todd and Julie's federal indictment in 2019. But would that be enough to shut them up? Or would the Chrisleys continue to shout from the rooftops that they were the real victims in all of this? On July 15, 2014, the Chrisley family was in Los Angeles to promote their reality TV show “Chrisley Knows Best.” Though it had only been on air a few months, the show had blown up and made the Chrisleys a household name. What viewers didn't know was at that very moment, as the Chrisleys walked the red carpet, Todd and Julie were knee-deep in bankruptcy litigation. “Chrisley Knows Best” viewers didn't seem to be bothered by Todd and Julie's lies once their multi-million dollar bankruptcies were made public. But, would it matter to viewers if they knew the Chrisleys were actively hiding their TV show earnings from the IRS and failing to pay state taxes in order to live lavishly at the expense of Georgia taxpayers? Or would it all be seen as just another controversy to add to the shit show that made the Chrisleys so popular? It's no secret that Todd Chrisley's eccentric and flamboyant personality, along with his enthusiasm for fashion and decorating has had people questioning his sexuality for years. In December 2022, just a few weeks after his sentencing for federal fraud convictions, Todd addressed allegations about his sexual activity. The allegations came straight from the witness stand during Todd's federal trial by a man named Mark Braddock who claimed the two of them had a love affair. Todd said it was nothing more than wishful thinking on Mark's part, and that Mark was basically not hot enough for him. Taking things a step further, Todd crassly joked to his son Chase, on his podcast, that he understood how having sex with him could drive a person crazy because “there have been many who have been DICK-notized by your daddy.” In this episode, we find out who Mark Braddock is and why Todd has so much disdain for him. We take a look at Todd and Julie's early business ventures, some questionable business practices, and a lot of court room drama. There have been many episodes of “Chrisley Knows Best” where Todd Chrisley makes a crass sexual comment and it's played off as being just another silly, wacky thing Todd says. Not everyone finds Todd's behavior funny, though. Before TV cameras followed his every move, there were severe allegations made about Todd's abusive, degrading, and sexually charged comments in the workplace. Todd's TV persona might come off as over-the-top and endearing, but some of his former employees would disagree when it came to their experiences with Todd in real life. More than one sexual harassment and hostile work environment lawsuit was filed against Todd Chrisley by his former employees, and the claims made are disturbing. Did they just misunderstand the quirky, southern “charm” that Todd's become synonymous with? Or, could Todd's need to be the center of attention, and the way he goes about doing it, be indicative of a much deeper issue? In recent decades, “the husband did it” has become a popular catchphrase in the true crime community. But some murders aren't so cut-and-dry. In October 1988, 41-year-old Peggy Carr began to feel very ill as she finished her waitressing shift in Alturas, Florida. What started as a sharp pain in her chest early in the day, progressed to a painful burning sensation in her hands and legs. It was excruciating. Peggy's mysterious symptoms baffled doctors. Was this a terminal illness? A rare virus? Or, could someone have done something to her? As doctors scrambled to make sense of what was happening, a sinister truth was exposed. They say the devil's in the details. Sometimes the most insidious kind of evil lurks in the most unexpected places. Four decades on the faded Polaroid picture still defies belief. Frozen forever within the white square frame, nine youths on their hands and knees stacked atop one another to create a playful pyramid. Their expressions range from slight amusement to outright glee. It was the Eighties in Chicago, Illinois when the Polaroid image was snapped. It appears as if it could've been taken at a birthday party, family reunion or holiday celebration. Only it wasn't. It was taken minutes after a cold-blooded murder. Moments before, within the same walls, 40-year-old Nancy Knuckles was strangled to death by her 17-year-old daughter and her daughter's boyfriend, while a houseful of their friends were present. When the rest of the group, including Nancy's other daughter and son, discovered the scene, they didn't alert authorities. Instead, they cracked beers, turned on music and went about their day. Over 40 years later, the case remains one of Chicagoland's most hotly debated. The central question: who was Nancy Knuckles and did her own actions contribute to her brutal death? In this episode of Serial Streamers Jami recaps the Netflix docuseries, “Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing.” This documentary shows viewers the dark side of child influencers and what can go wrong when minors are pushed to produce content and income. Piper Rockelle's YouTube channel, featuring her “squad,” was wildly successful and earning hundreds of thousands of dollars each month. Over time, members of the squad and their parents came to see Piper's mother, Tiffany Smith, as problematic, exploitative and a master manipulator. Video footage in the documentary shows Tiffany exhibiting disturbing behavior toward the children, and even forcing herself onto one of the minor squad members. In 2022, 11 former squad members filed a lawsuit against Tiffany Smith and her much younger boyfriend, Hunter Hill. The plaintiffs alleged that Tiffany and Hunter sabotaged their YouTube channels, and claimed Tiffany abused them. Jami gets into all the details of this cringey and disturbing documentary, providing all of her personal hot takes along the way. In December 1989, 37-year-old Susan Simoni clocked out from her job as a medical secretary. A simple plan lay ahead: pick-up dog from the groomer and daughter from ballet. A fairly typical evening. Or so she thought. Outwardly, Susan had it all. But beneath the veneer of a perfect life, a hidden darkness lurked. Susan's marriage of 15 years was falling apart. The previous night, Susan had finally broached the subject of divorce with her husband Brian. She'd even handed Brian a pamphlet, a guide to navigating the painful process with minimal damage to their three children—ages 14, 11, and 9. When Susan failed to pick up her daughter, Alicia, from ballet and never arrived home that night, Brian called police to report her absence. The next morning, Susan was found dead in her SUV. It didn't take police long to identify a suspect, and his identity surprised everyone …everyone, that is, but those who knew Susan best. Sherri Papini's case became a media frenzy and suspicion fell on her husband, Keith Papini. Law enforcement and the public began to think Keith had something to do with his wife's disappearance. Three weeks after Sherri went missing, she turned up again reporting that her captors had set her free. Sherri was visibly injured and seemingly traumatized by what her abductors had done to her. Then, it became apparent that Sherri had made the entire, bizarre story up. The media dubbed Sherri the real life “Gone Girl” as the shocking details of her kidnapping hoax unfolded.
