Vayeishev 1 - Favortism And Tension by Learn the Torah an Aliya a day
In this episode I have a discussion with my daughter J about the way parents discipline kids and show favoritism. You don't want kids to be shameful because that can be damaging to the child's self esteem and mindset when it comes to failing. You want them correct the behaviors. As parents we want our kids to understand the errors in certain behaviors and actions and maybe even feel a little guilty for their actions but not shameful.
Today I start with an intro about Inauguration Day. Instead of starting with dysfunction we want to start with Unity. Then we get back to the continuation of the dysfunctional family tree. Today we talk about the favoritism shown by parents that caused a greater family dispute, which would last for many years. The dysfunction continues...The music on the podcast is from John Nugent. God guides our daily path to allow us to share the Gospel to unsaved people by our actions and words.
In Episode 9 we will consider the Sin of Favoritism in our churches. How do we show favoritism and to whom? Q.1 - How do you describe the Jesus you know to others? Q.2 - How do you describe your relationship to Jesus (who are you to Jesus)?

Jacob didn't hide that Joseph was his favorite son. This made the rest of his sons very jealous. Then Joseph had 2 dreams that insinuated that he would one day rule over them all. That was more than his brothers could take! So when given the opportunity, they conspired to get rid of him. Jacob, Joseph, & the brothers all respond badly to their feelings. When we allow our feelings to rule, then they can grow & cause us to do horrible things.

The parents play favorites putting further dissention between them. Jacob covets what he does not have and Esau is not jealous enough to protect it. Is jealousy wrong? How important is status & position?

"God shows personal favoritism to no man" Each of us are on level ground in the eyes of God. Title or position in life has no relevance. Likewise, lack of title or position has no relevance. It is man who shows partiality. It is man who puts one over another in class or favor. It is man who believes he is better than others. God's way, His understanding, is the path man needs most. Sadly, man refuses. That said, as an individual, you personally can be accepted by God simply by walking in His righteousness. This begins in true humility as you accept that you are no better, and no worse, than any other person. Do not place personal favor over some than others, and do not believe yourself to be better, or worse, than others. Righteousness is first found in Jesus as your Lord and Savior - believe this in your heart, confess it with your mouth and you begin a new life. For it is with your heart that you believe and with your mouth confess Jesus is Lord and you will be saved. God's righteousness begins in the humility of placing your faith in the one true God...
