A bordo con le Donne al Volante, in compagnia di Liliana Russo e Katia De Rossi, è salita Lidia di Simone, caporedattore della rivista "Focus" per parlare del film Il Gladiatore II di Ridley Scott, uscito nelle sale il 14 novembre. Di recente, a Milano, c'è stato il Focus Live con laboratori, talk e spettacoli in una bellissima rievocazione storica. Focus ha anche chiamato una scuola gladiatoria che fa spettacoli e divulgazione in giro per il mondo e ricordare che, al tempo degli antichi romani, i gladiatori erano un po' di tutti i tipi, aldilà degli stereotipici. Vi erano infatti i professionisti che curavano il loro aspetto, ma erano gladiatori anche i prigionieri di guerra o anche coloro che si erano sporcati di qualche reato e che per ripulirsi la fedina penale accettavano di mettere il proprio corpo a disposizione dell'Urbe di Roma. Con questo contratto, sul gladiatore poteva esser fatta ogni cosa, anche la morte visto che una decina di volte l'anno c'erano degli scontri e giochi gladatori. Di Simone, per ultimo, racconta come il pollice verso non è detto sia un vero fatto storico visto che il gladiatore, soprattutto quello professionista, rendeva molto e per essere mantenuto costava quindi non si faceva morire subito, anzi.

On Monday's Morning Focus, Morning Focus broadcast from the Perochial Hall in Sixmilebridge in honour of the unveiling of the Dr. Brendan O'Regan statue later today. Guests included Family members of Dr. Brendan O'Regan Andrew and Margaret, and long standing friend Fr. Harry Bohan. Andrew and Margaret explained how they had aided the creation of the statue. Fr.Harry, who had been featured on the show recently, described his and Dr. Brendan's relationship. Syl O'Connor, Sixmilebridge Hurling Club Chairman, Niall Gilligan, former senior hurling All Ireland Winner and Derrick Lynch, Clare FM's Sports Editor also joined the conversation and discussed Clare's recent heartbreak defeat in yesterdays All Ireland Semi-Final against Kilkenny. Afterwards, Shannon based Sinn Féin Councillor Donna McGettigan spoke about her recent achievement of becoming the first woman to be appointed Cathaoirleach and her main priorities. Owner of EI Electronics Mick Guinee also made an appearance to speak about Brendan and why EI Electronics has funded the statue. Communications officer of Sixmilebridge Town Team, Mark Noonan and Town regeneration Officer for the Clare County Council, Linda Earlie discussed the Sixmilebridge Town Team Plan. Alan then interviewed Neil Pakey, President and CEO of the Toronto City Airport's passenger terminal about his involvement in the funding of the statue. CEO of Shannon Chamber Helen Downes highlighted how Shannon Chambers helped to find sponsors for the project. John Crowe, Fine Gael Councillor for the Shannon area from Sixmilebridge and PJ Ryan, Independent Councillor for the Shannon area from Cratloe took the time to discuss some of the issues that the Sixmilebridge community are facing. Chairperson of the Sixmilebridge Historical Society, David Deighan stated that without the work of Dr. Brendan O'Regan, the community of Sixmilebridge may not even exist today. Finally, our final guest that had appeared was Seamus Connolly, one of the country's leading bronze sculptors and the creator of the statue of Dr. Brendan O'Regan. He described the process he went through to create the statue. To coincide with this event, Clare FM's programme director Padraic Flaherty has produced an hour-long documentary on the life of Brendan O'Regan and has recently been aired here on Clare FM.
On Thursday's Morning Focus, Alan went on a trip to Ennistymon and set up camp in the Ennistymon Hub. Alan was joined by a number of guests on today's busy show. This included John Egan, graduate of NUIG in history and archaeology. John presented Alan and all of our Morning Focus listeners with a brief lesson on the hidden history of Ennistymon. Alan also spoke with Urban Mcmahon, Head of Information Systems Digital & Broadband Department with Clare county council. He highlighted the lack of digital services in the county and how Digiclare hopes to help with this problem. Later on, Alan then spoke with Shane Talty, Fianna Fail Councillor in the Ennistymon Electoral Area and Liam Grant, Green Party Councillor from Lahinch. Alan Highlighted some issues in the area hoping that they both could shed some light on the issues. On Thursday's Morning Focus, Alan was joined live from the Kilrush Chamber of Commerce by Councillor Ian Lynch and Colette Costello who is Head of Operations of Vandeleur Walled Gardens and Loop Head Lighthouse. Paul Moroney of Clare County Council also joined the discussion. The Group discussed their favourite aspects of West Clare along with complimenting the community spirit within the town of Kilrush. They also spoke about the crucial investment in the west Clare town and highlighted the work going on behind the scenes.
On Friday's Morning Focus, Alan was joined live from Glór by John Quinlivan, Eamonn Cotter and Mary McNamara to mark the celebration of the venues 21st birthday. They discussed the history of the venue and the work involved in getting Glór up and running for it's open night 21 years ago. Minister Síle de Valera officially opened the venue on Friday 30th November 2001. Since the official opening in 2001, close to one million people have attended over 8,200 performances and events in the venue. Glór will be hosting a concert in celebration of 21 years on Saturday the 26th November. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the Glór website.

Geraldine and Áine discussed their roles in planning the 21st birthday concert which will take place in Glór tomorrow night. This event will mark Glór being in operation for 21 years. The night will feature a host of special guests from Clare and beyond.
On Wednesday's Morning Focus, Alan was joined live from Qatar by Cian Meaney and Cathal Tighe who are attending the World Cup. Cathal is living long term in Qatar while Cian who has previously won two Canon Hamilton's with Ballyea is visiting Cathal. The pair discussed their personal experiences of life in Qatar and the ongoing scrutiny of the country in the media. They also spoke about the World Cup matches they have attended so far what the atmosphere is like in the Middle Eastern country during football's biggest tournament.
On Wednesday's Morning Focus Alan was joined by guests from the Scariff community and surrounding areas to discuss what the locality has to offer. Guests included Padraig Giblin, the owner of Derg Isle Adventure Centre and Harry O'Meara, Chairman of the Scariff Harbour Festival. Later, Alan spoke with Morgan Lahiffe who is the Senior Executive Officer for the Killaloe Municipal District along with Alan O'Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe Municipal District and Joe Cooney, Fine Gael Councillor for the Killaloe Electoral area. Also joining Alan was Elaine Bradley from Seedsavers, Graham Lightfoot from the Community Garden and Martina O'Brien, owner of 'In Season Flowers and Garden Centre' and the newly opened 'Café Teasir'. Other guests included Oliver Kirwin, Organizer of the Quest Lough Derg. Faye Maloney, Singer/Songwriter from Scariff. Representing sport in the community was Mike Madden from Scariff Rugby Club. Scariff / Ogonnelloe Munster Camogie Champions Rachel Daly, Jennifer Daly and Alva Rodgers had a chat with Alan along with Ross Horan from Scariff / Ogonnelloe GAA. Additionally Alan spoke with Arlene White from East Clare Tourism, Jane Halloran Ryan and Cli Donnellon, who is the owner of Turas House. Local musical talent included Faye Maloney a singer/songwriter from Scariff who played an original song. John Keehan playing the fiddle and Ciara O'Sullivan on the harp, closed the show with tunes from John's CD released in 2020 'The Humours of Scariff'.
On Thursday's Morning Focus Alan was joined by a variety of residents from Sixmilebridge and the surrounding area to discuss local issues and the evolution of the community over the years. Guests included Mike Glynn, Paddy Higgins, David Deighan, Eilis O'Nualain, Ian Chaplin, Declan Murphy, Eoghan McNulty. Councillors John Crowe, Alan O'Callaghan and PJ Ryan also joined the chat along with Tourism Officer for Clare County Council Joan Tarmey and Head of Enterprise, LEO Clare Padraic McElwee. Cratloe artist Fiona O'Connell closed the show.
