Eudemonia is a word for deriving pleasure from doing mundane things such as the laundry.  Finally, modern technology has produced a machine that can help, with the laundry that is. The Foldimate, which just debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, folds your clothes for you.  Well, this is sure to make laundry issues less pressing:)  All you have to do is feed your clothes into a slot on the machine, and the Foldimate does the rest, automatically folding your clothes and delivering them neatly stacked and ready to put away.  What’s a word for a person who wears wrinkled clothes? A Scobberlotcher! The manufacturer says the FoldiMate machine should be available to consumers within the United States by late 2019.  In laundry speak, what’s the opposite of wrinkly?  Why that would be Irony:)

For a lot of people, the absolute worst part of doing the laundry is when it comes time to fold it. The washer and dryer do the important part for them, but when it needs to be folded, they just haphazardly shove it around and wind up with a lot of wrinkled clothes. We all have that one friend with a clothes chair or a decorated treadmill! We were very happy to talk to Gal Rozov who is the founder and CEO of FoldiMate, a fascinating robotic laundry folder. FoldiMate is a new concept to help make a bothersome task for some people a pleasure. Gal told us that even his children fight over who gets to fold clothes! It is mainly designed for shirts, towels, and pillowcases. It is able to fold neatly and accurately up to 25 items in 5 minutes. The execution of this is very easy. You simply grab the item by the shoulders, facing you and clip it onto two uniquely designed clips and it automatically pulls the item into the machine. While that is happening, you put on the next item after it opens up again. The appliance plugs into a standard 110-volt outlet so that makes it very versatile. The possibilities for placement are endless in your home, depending on your space limitations and your work habits. Some folks like to put them in the laundry area while others want it in their bedroom. It is also incredibly energy-efficient. He is also thinking about the possibility of using them in laundromats for their customers to experience. While last year they were in a prototype mode and this year they were extremely honored to receive the Best of Show Award at CES for 2019 from Business Insider. The FoldiMate is planned for public release in late 2019. The price point is uncertain at this time but they are hoping for around the $1000. range. CES 2018: Laundry folding robot, bigger and rollable TVs, and Nokia sleep    In this episode, we take a look at CES 2018, the biggest tech show in the world. Hear about autonomous cars, taxis, Samsung’s Wall TV, Razar’s laptop dock and FoldiMate’s laundry folding robot and more.  Show Notes:  Fisker’s new luxury EMotion electric sedan is coming in 2020 with futuristic butterfly doors that open upwards at an angle.   Bell Helicopter is looking to bring us autonomous air taxis. Uber is partnering with Bell to help develop the project for launch sometime in the 2020s.  Samsung’s "The Wall" 4K TV is one of the largest (if not the biggest) TVs unveiled at CES 2018.   LG is showing off its eye-popping 65-inch rollable 4K OLED TV.   50-qubit quantum computer that is capable of processing more calculations and could be a game-changer for AI and machine-learning.  FoldiMate laundry folding robot  Nokia has announced the Nokia Sleep, a bed sensor that sits under your mattress to provide you with data while you sleep  Fingerprint sensor under the display.   Tech Bytes:   Scientists at Harvard University recently unveiled a metalens that has the potential to shrink the size of any device that uses a camera while at the same time improving performance.  While traditional lenses are made from glass, metalenses use a flat surface peppered with nanostructures to focus light. One problem with metalenses has been their inability to focus the full spectrum of light.  That's not the case anymore, however, as a team at Harvard's Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Science have developed a metalens that can focus the entire visible spectrum of light -- including white light -- at a focal point, with high resolution.  This means that lens will be thinner making future phones and other devices much thinner.   One of America's largest retirement villages will have a fleet of self-driving taxis introduced next year.  US firm Voyage said it will start rolling out the service at The Villages, Florida which is home to 125,000 senior residents.  It said the scheme, spanning 750 miles of road, would be the "largest by area size" in the world.    Facebook is testing a new feature in its app where it will have city-specific local news, events and announcements available on its platform.  The test is currently live for a new section called 'Today In' in six US cities.

Wait, what? Yeah, this week a company called SuperMeat announced that it raised $3 million to create chicken in a lab. It requires real chicken cells, Petrie dishes probably and some patience. The benefits for fake (fake real?) chicken are numerous, not the least of which it's better for the environment. But we wonder how it will taste. Like chicken? Like fake chicken? In the lead-up to CES 2018, the topic of robots that fold laundry is on our minds. Apparently it's a thing and it costs a lot of money. Like, a lot of money. Two companies, FoldiMate and Seven Dreamers (which is working with Panasonic) don't want you to have to fold your clean clothes, which is arguably not the worst part of doing laundry (at least according to Henry). And finally, Volkswagen and Hyundai announced that, by 2021, they intend to have autonomous taxi fleets on the roads. Autonomous cars are coming, so why not start with taxis? The only thing better would be autonomous pizza-delivery vehicles. Our guest this week is Ryan Rzepecki, CEO of Social Bicycles, the startup behind Jump, a dockless, electric bike-sharing startup.
