Sara Bradley, chef-owner of Freight House in Paducah, Kentucky, worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in New York and Chicago, but always wanted to return to her hometown and be her own boss. She opened Freight House in 2015 with the mission to create a technique-driven yet accessible restaurant where all guests would feel comfortable dining and all team members could experience true work-life balance. Bradley knows all about balance—she juggles her job as restaurant chef-owner with her role as mother to two young children and a contestant on multiple chef competition shows, including "Top Chef: World All-Stars." During the "Top Chef" filming, she made headlines for pumping and shipping breast milk from London to Paducah for her youngest daughter. Listen as Bradley describes how her locally inspired menu gives her the opportunity to tell her culinary story, how she's built a popular and profitable restaurant while creating a compassionate work environment, and why Paducah is the perfect place for Freight House.

In today's episode, Tara interviews two long time professional singers and gets the low down on the ups and downs of being a professional singer! Both Lisa and Jana grew up in musical families and had singers they looked up to like Linda Ronstadt, Chaka Khan, Sheena Easton, Donny and Marie Osmond and more! They met each other through the Rupert's Orchestra in town in Minneapolis. With mutual respect between both of them, they went on to work with other amazing professionals like Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, as well as Fleetwood Mac, Don Henley, Prince and more! (In response to nerves before a show.) “It's never easy. I don't get nervous but I'm very awake and excited! “ Lisa Keith Bernard “I get very excited and very very nervous for the first couple of songs…I'm letting myself relax a little bit and by the second or third song I see the audience—there's something about seeing the audience and cracking a joke that relaxes me and I feel more at home on stage.” Jana Anderson “There's an anticipation that I feel on show day…I think it gets easier the more people that you are with because others can fill in the gaps.” Tara B “We have the blessing of being close friends…our faith binds us first….and music and family and friends second.” Jana Anderson As pro singers, we have all faced at one time or another of someone asking us if we have “real jobs”. There is so much we have to do to educate others as professional musicians. “As musicians, we definitely have to wear many hats!” Lisa Keith Bernard Lisa Keith Bernard: https://www.facebook.com/LisaKeithMusic https://www.facebook.com/spencerandlisa Better Than You song: https://youtu.be/gYPwiW4huNc Jana Anderson: https://www.janaandersonmusic.com/ I Honestly Love You Tribute show: https://www.facebook.com/ONJAMHITS River Tribute show: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057579875823 Crooners: https://croonersloungemn.com/ Chanhassen Dinner Theater: https://chanhassendt.com/concertseries/ Chart House Live: https://www.charthouserestaurant.com/?view=calendar&month=11-2023 The Freight House: https://www.thefreighthouse.com/events You can get the singing straw here: https://singingstraw.com/discount/tarab10?ref=tarab10 Use code for discount: tarab10 You can listen on Amazon Audible music, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, iHeart radio, PlayerFM Stitcher, Spotify and more. Sean Van Horn is the co-founder of Freight House Fitness, a local Kansas City fitness center where people are blessed with a feeling of being welcomed, loved, & healed. Not just physically but mentally and spiritually. The story of how Sean and his wife Kendra created Freight House is one of inspiration and faith. In 2010 Sean was currently laid off from his job on the railroad and really wanting to make the leap into being a personal trainer. Kendra was a former athlete and always into working out for as long as she could remember. She even remembers using her mom’s ab roller when she was little in the living room while watching cartoons. Kendra knew Sean’s desires and she knew that Sean could be a great trainer. Kendra was working full time as a hair stylist and was super creative, artistic and had a passion for design. They had a few years of partying and really trying to find themselves and deal with their past hurts. In 2013 they went through an inner healing ministry at their church and it was at that moment they came together in their relationship and started to get a vision for Freight House Fitness. Sean and Kendra wanted an environment fueled by Kendra’s creativity and Sean’s gift of helping people accomplish their goals and become the best version of themselves. Today Sean and Kendra are so blessed to have an amazing group of trainers helping them and a community filled with some of the most genuine, loving people around. This was their dream and their vision. In this episode, Sean tells us how he improvised, adapted, & overcame his business model during the COVID-19 crisis.

Don't let your dreams remain dreams. ㅤ ... ㅤ Edited by: @benlionelscott Spoken by: Greg Plitt, Jocko Willink Footage by: Filmpac, No Magnolia Productions, Brad Francis, Daniil T, FREIGHT HOUSE, Israel G. Vazquez, Rebecca Andrews Productions, Smeraglia Productions, Tito Goldstein Music: Really Slow Motion - Astraeus ㅤ ... ㅤ Most people sit back and they war-game it forever. Everyone with these dreams and what they're gonna do. All the talk, the gander, with no f*cking action. Saying they're going to do this, they're going to do that, they're going to do that, When do you start to do it, is my question? And we lose track of those long term goals. And you look up in 6 weeks, or in 6 months, or in 6 years, and you've made no progress. None. You never moved. And at some point you think to yourself, "Maybe I can't." And so you give up. And you let it fade. And you settle. No. Don't do that. Embed that long-term goal in your mind, burn it into your soul. And think about it, and write about it, and talk about it, and hang it up on your wall, but most important, do something about it. Do something about it. Every day, do something that moves you toward that goal, that keeps the goal alive, and in sight, and in focus. However small, or insignificant that step might seem, take it. Do it. Do that little piece. Make it happen. the value of life, the lessons of life is these building blocks happen with action, along the journey. Prior to starting the journey, you decide you're gonna do it for the right reasons, and then you get going. You get into it, and you figure it out along the way. You don't sit there at the starting block war-gaming it, and war-gaming it, and war-gaming it, thinking of every situation and how it might work, how it won't work, how to do this, how to do that. Just sitting there, spinning in circles like a f*cking Looney Tune. You get going, and you figure it out along the way. When you fall down, you get your ass back up and you keep going. There comes a time where you gotta graduate class, and apply the lessons you've learned. You can't always be taking notes. Someone's gotta go out there and do them to create the subject matter that others study from. You've got to be your own master of your life. Creating those moments, those experiences. You might puke, you might cry, You might sweat blood, sweat tears, hit failure over and over again in that transformation process. But eventually, it's situated. Went to sleep that night, the person that went to sleep, stronger mentally and physically than I woke up that morning, that's a good f*cking day. That combines for a good week, good month, good year, good life. That goal isn't going to achieve itself. It's all on you.
